The Voice 23: Michael B. vs Ryley Tate Wilson Stunning “Heartbreak Anniversary” Battle
The Voice 23 Battle rounds conclude next week with the last two episodes. The Knockouts are just around the corner, but first the coaches must finish building their teams for the next round.
In a new preview, Team Niall Horan puts artists Michael B. and Ryley Tate Wilson together for an unforgettable duet of Giveon’s “Heartbreak Anniversary.” Michael’s mature soulful sound gives off Rick Astley vibes (that’s a compliment people!). On the other hand, Ryley at 15 is still wearing braces, but sings like an old soul.
Chance the Rapper calls it “one of the best performances we’ve seen in the Battle rounds so far,” adding “It’s incredible how you bounced off of each other, the arrangement, I loved the lyrics split you guys did.” As far as Michael is concerned, Chance says, “You killed that, man!” and complimented his vocal control. He would pick Michael.
Kelly Clarkson compares Ryley’s voice to a “broken angel,” she jokes afterward, “I’m in therapy, it’s fine!” She remarks that Ryley’s voice is raspy, but also beautiful, with an airy falsetto. “Insane!” she exclaims. Kelly doesn’t understand why Michael wasn’t a 4-chair turn. “Your runs are effortless,” she says. “I am not going to help Niall at all right now. You two should be in the finale.”
“We all knew what to expect from you,” Blake Shelton says to Ryley. “We knew it was going to be incredible.” However, Blake feels Michael won the Battle, based on at least his comfort level on stage.
Who will Niall choose?
Niall jokes, “If they ask me to come back, I’m not coming back!” calling the performance “off the charts.” He adds, “You sung beautifully together. The riffs, the control, the authenticity, making that song your own…” Host Carson Daly interrupts. It’s time to make a decision!
Who will Niall choose? While the coach has used his one steal, he can still award one singer a spot in the Knockouts and the other singer his one and only Playoff Pass. Additionally, Chance and Blake have steals remaining and COULD use them.
The Voice airs on Monday April 3 at 8 pm ET/PT on NBC. The final Tuesday episode airs April 4 at 9 pm ET/PT
