The Voice 24 Recap: Top 9 LIVE Performances
The Voice Reveals Season 24 Finale Performances

Who from Team John Legend, Team Gwen Stefani, Team Niall Horan and Team Reba McEntire will make the cut? After last night’s viewer vote, 4 artists will be declared safe. Next, the bottom 5 singers will perform for America’s vote in the Instant Save. The winner will round out the Top 5 advancing to next week’s Finale.

Niall Horan and John Legend team up for “The Show”

The show kicks off with Niall Horan singing the title track from his latest album, The Show. John Legend joins him on piano and vocals. The two sing together and trade off leads. Background singers and a small string orchestra accompany them. Very cool collaboration.

The RESULTS begin

Next, the Top 9 take the stage for results. First dumb question is directed at Huntley. The singer shares about how he deals with setbacks. “Don’t stop the fight,” he advises. Lila shared her thoughts about closing the show last night with Joni’s iconic song. Jordan thanks her fans back home in Oklahoma and America for accepting her as she is. The first finalist is….Lila Forde from Team Legend. Ok then.

After the break, Carson asks the coaches a bunch of useless questions which I’m not going to recount here. Time wasters!

Now, the remaining 8 artists are center stage. BIAS thanks Gwen for allowing him to be who he is and is thrilled that America accepted him. What would Mac like to say to the LADIES tonight. Oh Lord. So cringy. Ruby thanks her young fans. Now, the next artist advancing to the finale is…Huntley from Team Niall. He seems surprised. He should not be. Also advancing to next week’s finale is…Ruby Leigh. Her fans pulled through.

John Legend performs his signature holiday song

Next, John Legend performs “What Christmas Means to Me” from his holiday album, Legendary Christmas.

Who is the last artist to advance by America’s vote?

The remaining SIX artists take the stage. Who is the last artist to advance via America’s vote? Mara thanks John. She’s thankful that America got to see her grow. Jacquie delivers a message to her daughter, to never give up. Nini learned how to be a great storyteller from her coach, Niall. The fourth finalist is...Mara Justine!

Jacquie Roar, Nini Iris, Mac Royals, BIAS and Jordan Rainer will sing for the Instant save and the last spot in the Top 5.

Instant Save Performance

Nini Iris – Mad World by Tears for Fears – She sings the ballad version that Adam Lambert sang on American Idol. The version has become somewhat of a singing show staple ever since. It’s good song to have in the back pocket. She’s performing first, which isn’t great. But Jordan prevailed last week after performing first. Producers would probably rather not have three of Niall’s singers in the final. She saves the drama for a key change at the bridge. Nini knows how to craft a story! Niall calls her a “real deal artist.” Vote for that girl, he pleads.

BIAS – Go Rest High on That Mountain by Vince Gill – Pulling out the emotional God card at crunch time. Smart move. But really, he’s toast. Might as well go out on a high note. At heart, BIAS is a gospel singer, and he could very well end up with a Christian music record deal. Gwen calls the performance real honest and pure. “You have definitely spoken to people out in America,” she says.

Jacquie Roar – Alone by Heart – When she tackled Sia this week, I wondered if she would take on Heart if she lasted longer. And here she is. She’s an underrated season 24 singer. But, she’s competing against several big voice and stylistic singers. Her range is incredible, how she nails those high notes. Reba says, “You were SANGING tonight. If America doesn’t vote you through, I don’t know what to think.”

Jordan Rainer – I Don’t Dance by Lee Brice – This is an odd song choice. Not really a save me song, plus she’s flat on the high notes. This, after delivering a terrific performance last night. In any case, Jordan has gotten as far as she’s going to go in the competition. Reba calls Jordan a powerhouse gladiator and a force of nature.

Mac Royals – I Wanna Know by Joe – Oh. He does the old fashioned talking thing at the top of the song. Producers gave him the pimp spot. Will it help him? He probably should have gone for a big emotional song like “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Nevertheless, Mac gets the job done. John calls his R&B “exquisite” and calls him “special,” adding that he belongs in The Voice finale.

RESULTS

At this point, it’s either Mac or Nini moving on to the finale. Maybe Jacquie. Five minutes to vote on The Voice official app and NBC.com.

Nini calls Niall one of the nicest people she’s ever met. She thanks him. Niall calls Nini one of the “rare ones.” He’s sure she’ll be successful no matter what. BIAS thanks Gwen for believing in him and helping his confidence. Gwen says, “You just have this thing about you.” She thinks America is crazy if they reject him. Jacquie thanks Reba for her patience, answering her many emails. Reba says her life was enriched by working with her. Jordan says Reba was one of her first and most prized “yes.” Reba calls Jordan great and “so different…we need you.” Mac calls John one of the most genuine people on the business. John is thrilled by his talent. He’s excited to see what happens to him next whether it’s on the show or off.

And America INSTANTLY SAVED….Jacquie Roar. OK. I’m really surprised. REALLY REALLY SURPRISED. Go team Reba? My predictions were totally off this week. It’s hard to say whether Lila Forde performing a beloved Joni Mitchell song last helped her, or that she’s been very popular all along. Also, it’s hard to know if Nini has been less popular than she seemed. Does she have a big base of fans who live outside of the US and can’t vote? Or maybe in the end, there was no way Team Niall was advancing three singers to the Top 5.

Nini would have been a worthy finalist, but I’m not mad that Jacquie is still in it. She’s a sturdy and consistent performer who crosses the country/rock/classic genres.

The Voice 24 Top 5

Lila Forde – Team Legend
Huntley – Team Niall
Ruby Leigh – Team Reba
Mara Justine – Team Niall
Jacquie Roar – Team Reba – Instant Save winner

Eliminated

BIAS – Team Gwen
Jordan Rainer – Team Reba
Nini Iris – Team Niall
Mac Royals – Team Legend
