Here’s your first look at The Voice season 17 in a new NBC promo. With the abrupt departure of Adam Levine from the coaches panel last May, a few short weeks before filming was to begin, Blake Shelton lost his comedic nemesis. The judges banter often resembles dialog from a situation comedy. Who would Blake riff off of now? Drum roll….it’s gal pal Gwen Stefani to the rescue!
In the new promo clip, astute viewers of The Voice can PRETTY MUCH guess the plot. That’s right. Gwen blocks her boyfriend Blake while Kelly Clarkson and John Legend, look on, highly amused.
“I’m very excited to see America’s favorite couple fight it out!” John declares, while Kelly claps and shouts ‘YAASSS!” Cut to Gwen dancing around the lit up “blocked” sign in front of Blake’s chair while he whines, “Why are you doing this to me? I thought you loved me!” Kelly chimes in, “Mom and dad are fighting!” Of course Gwen gives him a big ole hug afterward.
Interestingly, Blake and Gwen were fairly low-key about their relationship when the two worked together in prior seasons. They weren’t even a couple during their first cycle together in the winter of 2014 (season 7). But now, with the two firmly ensconced as a couple in the gossip rags, and Blake needing a new partner in crime–get ready for major Shevani antics! Oh boy.
The Voice season 17 premieres on NBC Monday September 23. Check out the clip below.
