The Voice 12 Blind Auditions 6 – Take the Polls Vote for Your Favorites

Monday night’s The Voice Blind Auditions featured TWO Adele covers. One rendition hewed close to the original, the other was a completely different take.

Additionally, at long last, Elvis Costello was covered on The Voice.  But, alas, there were no turns for the contestant.  Unfortunately, the performance lacked dynamics.  Note to hopefuls: There has to be a money note, yo.

I was also delighted to hear one of my favorite Todd Rundgren songs, “Hello it’s Me” covered. Not that I needed a rendition of that song with a country twang. I thought it was a little odd that Kenny P, a country singer, chose a somewhat obscure pop song to cover.

Bad news! There WERE montages. GOOD NEWS! We got FULL performance videos from both singers! Click for our recap with performance videos. Such a great idea. Hopefully full clips of any montaged Battles and Knockouts are also uploaded to Youtube.

Who were your favorite singers tonight? Mine were indie singer Sammie Zonana, who brought a different vibe to Adele, kinda-sorta country singer, Kenny P.  (LOTS of points for covering Todd) and T-Soul for bringing originality to the often covered “Take me to the River.” One of these days I’d love for an alt rock singer to bring on a Talking Heads-flavored version of that classic tune.

On paper, Americana singer Valerie Ponzio is my cuppa, but I was put off by her overly affected stylizations. So far, I find her a bit pretentious. She could still win me over, though.

However, I can’t think of ONE knock out, stand out performance from this season. For sure, many have been very good.  But nobody has gone crazy viral so far. And man, I’ve been covering The Voice UK? The American singers are much more polished and put together. But then, the UK version isn’t full of professionals looking for their big break.

But maybe? If this were the first season, I’d be more impressed? Am I just tired of the format? Or does The Voice really need to shake things up for Season 13? What do you think?

Once again, my apologies for not live blogging. Next time I take a pre-show nap, I need to set the alarm. Sigh.

OK. Time to vote for your favorites.
