The Voice season 12 Battle Rounds began tonight (3/20) with the first six duets of the round. Three of the eliminated contestants were stolen by other coaches and three went home. That’s pretty typical for the first night. The episode was frontloaded with obvious producer favorites like soul singer JChosen, American Idol alum Anatalia Villaranda, country throwback Casi Joy, 13 year old wunderkind Quizz Swanigan, AGT alum Brennley Brown and the Beiber-like Mark Isaiah. Let’s just say there were NO surprise results.

My favorite duet of the evening was the country throwback showdown between Casi Joy and Ashley Levin of Team Blake Shelton. Casi stayed with Blake and Ashley went on to be stolen by Alicia Keys. I’d be really interested to see Casi tackle some different genres. She seems very musical and is a terrific performer.

My favorite mentors are those that give very specific advice to the singers about vocal and performance techniques. By that criteria, Celine Dion wins big. That lady knows what she’s doing.

And most robbed? I would have chosen Kenny P. over JChosen. But it was obvious that was not meant to be.
