After four weeks, FOX’s The Masked Singer has introduced viewers to all sixteen contestants. FOUR have left the show, including Egg – Ice Skater Johnny Weir, Ice Cream – Internet celebrity Ninja, Panda – Ex-Boxer Laila Ali and this week, Eagle – TV doctor Drew Pinsky. Who saw DREW PINSKY the Love Lines and Celebrity Rehab star as The Eagle? Weird!
This week, two of the characters are kind of obvious. One is still open for interpretation! For fun, check out this week’s video from a sound engineer who slows down the doctored voices every week. There are some pretty great clues in comments!
The Masked Singer 2 Recap: Week 3 Results Live Blog (VIDEOS)
Flower Clues: “What’s up Rosebuds. Some say I blossom in every field I Plant myself in. So becoming the flower was a natural arrangement. I’ve dipped my petals in just about everything from cooking, to clothing, to crafts. My whole life, I’ve done everything to the nines.I don’t even go to the grocery store without lipstick or pumps on. But after selling the seeds of this empire with my bare hands, I’m just ready to have a little fun and be free. I don’t even have any makeup on under this thing. This legend is here to be a vision of love on the stage. But what’s love got to do with it anyways?” Visual clues: Framed doctorate degree from Temple. The security guards sway behind her like background singers. Shots in the kitchen with an emphasis on a box of macaroni and cheese.
Predictions: Just like Gladys Knight last season, there is no hiding a legendary voice. Those high notes gave it away, am I right? The Flower is probably Patti Labelle. She was born in Philadelphia, and was given an honorary degree from Temple University. She appeared on the FOX series Empire. She’s written a cookbook. Desserts appear to be her thing. Her costume is a hint–her former girl group was named the Bluebelles. Sooo. Yeah.
Penguin Clues: “Penguins are incredibly expressive birds, So it’s in my DNA to strive for my voice to be heard. My whole life I’ve been told I’m not pretty enough not smart enough, not funny enough. But life isn’t always black and white. On this stage, I’m going to sing for those of us who dare to be different. And trust me, I don’t need a permission slip from anyone to be who I am. I’m leading the march. Who’s with me?” Visual clues: News flash on TV with bird and voice over “clearly this bird did not get the word that her career is over.” and “Penguin’s career on ice” chyron. There’s a makeup mirror with photos (???). Paper with “Hit List” written on it: Classroom bully, comedy club owner, Hollywood casting director, Exes, The Press, Myself. She holds up a sign that says “givemthebird.” And one of the security guards flashes another sign that says “I’m not your secretary.”
Predictions: This is a tough one. Internet guesses include Tonya Harding (the ice clues, career being over, exes on the hit list). There are tons of clues that Penguin is a female comedian. Maybe Kathy Griffin? Her career was dead after the photo stunt she pulled a couple of years ago. But she’s been off TV since it happened. I doubt FOX, of all networks, would be ready to bring her back. Some are guessing Sherri Shepherd, which would be funny considering how much her name comes up on the show. Sherri is a comedian. She encountered controversy as a host on The View. She left the show, and folks predicted her career was over. She wrote a book titled “Permission Slips: Every Woman’s Guide to Giving Herself a Break.” Before she became a comedian, she worked as a legal secretary. She also had a messy divorce, that involved a child born by surrogate that Sherri did not want to support.
Fox Clues: “Are you ready for a bedtime story little one? All right, here we go. Chapter one. Foxes are clever and nocturnal, and I definitely do my best work at night. I dabbled in many different genres, from Doogie to Doubtfire. I’d laugh with them all. Over the years, I’ve lived two different lives. There’s my on-air superhero persona, who lives to entertain. And then there’s the real me, who I am when I’m at home. But under this mask, my two identities can finally become one. Wish me luck tonight little fox.” Visual clues: Fox reads a bedtime story to a little fox, presumably his child. There is constant superhero imagery. A poster features the Fox in many getups, including a old time private eye, female and more. At home he watches a rocket launch on TV and there’s a big BANGGG graphic, like the old Batman tv show.
Predictions: Lots of folks are guessing Wayne Brady. He is a versatile actor, who has played all sorts of roles on Broadway, TV and film. He’s also hosted a bunch of stuff, and had a talk show. He played Neil Patrick Harris’ (Doogie) brother on How I Met Your Mother and starred in a production of Rent directed by Neil. He appeared in Star Trek: Stargate. He starred in the Broadway show Kinky Boots, playing a drag queen. Also he voiced Micron in Batman and Beyond. There are a ton of clues that fit!
