The Amazing Race 35 Recap Week 9 Live Blog and Results

The episode begins with Greg & John kicking off the leg. They must travel to Congress Square for their next clue. Right behind them are Todd & Ashlie. Greg & John feel the pressure to continue to do well after winning three legs in a row. Todd & Ashlie feel like they are due for a win. The teams reach Congress Square and learn they have to complete a Roadblock. One team member must deliver a dozen wooden items. John and Todd choose to do the Roadblock.

Rob & Corey begin the leg. They won an Express Pass in the last leg. and hope they won’t need to use it today so they can save it for the next leg. They arrive at Congress Square, and Corey chooses to do the Roadblock. Meanwhile, Greg tells Rob that they have a lot of time since Steve & Anna Leigh are very far behind them and won’t start the leg until much later.

John completes the Roadblock as Joel & Garrett begin the leg. Greg & John must now drive to Pivka Jama, subterranean caves. They will find their next clue there. After Greg & John depart, Joel gets started on the Roadblock. Meanwhile, Robbin & Chelsea begin the leg. Robbin & Chelsea are happy to have made it this far, and they’re motivated to keep going. Steve & Anna Leigh get started shortly afterwards. They know they’re far behind, but they say it’s not over until it’s over. Steve says since Anna Leigh is married now, it’s priceless getting to spend this time with her.

Todd misses the exit

Todd makes his delivery and receives his next clue. He and Ashlie can proceed to Pivka Jama. While Chelsea is working on the Roadblock, she sees Steve & Anna Leigh run by as they reach Congress Square. Anna Leigh chooses to do the Roadblock. As she gets started, Corey makes his delivery and completes the Roadblock. Anna Leigh also manages to get ahead of Chelsea, but Chelsea is close behind. Joel makes his delivery next, but Anna Leigh is right behind him and completes the Roadblock too. Chelsea goes to make her delivery, but she’s missing one of her twelve items. She must go back and get a rolling pin, which will put her and Robbin even further behind the other teams.

On the drive to Pivka Jama, Todd misses the exit. They must figure out how to drive back there, which will cost them some time. Chelsea finally completes her delivery, but she and Robbin are still far behind. Meanwhile, Greg & John arrive at Pivka Jama and go inside the caves. Rob & Corey arrive at the caves next.

Greg & John find the clue box. They learn they must assemble pieces to build a dragon. Once completed, they will receive their next clue. They get started building the dragon from the bottom to the top. Shortly afterwards, Rob & Corey get started building their dragon. Steve & Anna Leigh manage to pass Joel & Garrett on the drive, and they are the third team to enter the caves.

Building dragons

They get started building their dragon too. Joel & Garrett and Todd & Ashlie arrive next. Robbin & Chelsea are still in last place. They drive right past the turn taking them to the caves, which will cost them even more time. They reach a parking lot unrelated to where they’re supposed to be, but don’t know where to drive to, and Robbin says she just wants Phil to put them out of their misery already.

All teams except for Robbin & Chelsea are working on building their dragons. Greg & John build their dragon first. They get their next clue and learn they must drive themselves to Fonda Fish Farm. Once there, they will have a Detour to choose. Rob & Corey complete building their dragon next, currently putting them in second place. Meanwhile, Robbin & Chelsea ask for directions and learn they were at the right place earlier. As they go back, Steve & Anna Leigh and Joel & Garrett complete building their dragons. Todd & Ashlie are still working on their dragon.

Greg & John arrive at Fonda Fish Farm. They have a Detour to complete: Scrape Off or Swap Out. Scrape Off requires teams to clean two rings used for fish farming. Swap Out requires teams to use a kayak to locate two marked buoys. They must swap out old buoys with new buoys to collect mussels. Greg & John choose Swap Out. Meanwhile, Robbin & Chelsea finally arrive at the caves while Todd & Ashlie continue struggling building their dragon. However, Todd & Ashlie complete building their dragon before Robbin & Chelsea arrive at the dragon building task. They eventually get there and begin assembling their dragon.

Scrape off or Swap out

Greg & John kayak through the many buoys, but they eventually find a marked buoy to swap out with. Meanwhile, the teams behind them choose their Detours. Rob & Corey choose Swap Out, Steve & Anna Leigh choose Scrape Off, and Joel & Garrett choose Swap Out. Greg & John locate their second buoy while Rob & Corey find their first buoy. However, Rob & Corey forgot to collect the mussels.

Greg & John complete the Detour. They can now drive themselves to the Pit Stop: Grad Socerb. They will be at a castle on the border between Slovenia and Italy. After Greg & John leave, they realized their mistake. Not only did they forget to collect the mussels, but they didn’t bring a replacement buoy with them. They go back to fix their mistake. Meanwhile, Joel & Garrett and Steve & Anna Leigh are working on their Detour tasks. Robbin & Chelsea also finally complete building their dragon while Todd & Ashlie are still driving to Fonda Fish Farm.

Rob & Corey can’t locate the mussels they left behind, so they decide to switch Detours. They go over to the Scrape Off Detour just as Steve & Anna Leigh complete it. Anna Leigh gives Rob & Corey some advice on the Scrape Off Detour before she and Steve depart for the Pit Stop. Rob & Corey get started, and they hope they can avoid using their Express Pass. While they’re still working, Joel & Garrett complete the Swap Out Detour. They can make their way to the Pit Stop too.

Team #1 greet Phil at the pit stop

Rob & Corey complete the Scrape Off Detour before Todd & Ashlie or Robbin & Chelsea arrive. After they depart for the Pit Stop, Todd & Ashlie arrive. Meanwhile, Greg & John arrive at the Pit Stop. Phil gives them the good news. Greg & John are Team #1! They each win $5,000.

Todd & Ashlie get started on the Scrape Off Detour, but they can’t find the chains used to do the task. They waste time trying to find them, so they contemplate switching to the other Detour. However, they finally find the chains. As Todd & Ashlie get started, Joel & Garrett greet Phil at the Pit Stop as Team #2. Steve & Anna Leigh arrive later as Team #3. As they leave the Pit Stop mat, Rob & Corey greet Phil as Team #4.

Todd & Ashlie had some struggles today, but Robbin & Chelsea fell too far behind. Todd & Ashlie complete the Detour and later greet Phil at the Pit Stop as Team #5. Robbin & Chelsea complete the Swap Out Detour and later join Phil at the Pit Stop. He gives them the bad news. Robbin & Chelsea have been eliminated from the race. They take their elimination in stride, and they say the race was a new foundation for their friendship going forward.
