The Amazing Race 29 Recap – Week 3 Live Blog

A new episode of The Amazing Race airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap and join the discussion here.

The episode begins with Sara being annoyed with Shamir’s complaining again. London and Logan admit there’s drama, but they don’t want to get involved. The rest of the teams just want to get along. Afterwards, they learn their new destination: They must fly to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Once there, they must proceed to the Askari Monument. In addition, there is a Blind Double U-Turn in this leg.

As the teams make their way there, Ashton reiterates how she wants revenge against Matt and Redmond for going back on their deal. The teams land in Tanzania, and they must get a newspaper to know their next destination (there is a clue listed in the newspaper). They learn they must get on a ferry the next morning. All the teams will likely be on the same ferry too.

The ferry arrives at Zanibar, Tanzania the next morning, and the teams are racing in taxis to the Blind Double U-Turn. Tara and Joey and Vanck and Ashton are the first teams to arrive there. Tara and Joey U-Turn Seth and Olive, and Vanck and Ashton U-Turn Matt and Redmond. They also have a Detour to complete: Build It (build a desk from donated supplies and deliver it to a school) or Weave It (weave two baskets and travel across sailing vessel). The teams choose their Detours, and Seth and Olive and Matt and Redmond are displeased to see they are U-Turned. Redmond especially makes his displeasure known to Ashton. Redmond said they are a weak and pathetic team, whereas he and Matt are a much stronger team. Matt and Redmond are on a boat and see Tara and Joey on the other boat. Matt asks them if they U-Turned Seth and Olive, and they lie and say they didn’t. Matt and Redmond know they are lying. “Bold faced liars,” Matt says.

Meanwhile, Liz and Michael, Seth and Olive, Becca and Floyd, Vanck and Ashton, Tara and Joey, Brooke and Scott, and Sara and Shamir are working on the Build It Detour. Shamir is struggling as he says he never builds stuff himself. Matt and Redmond and London and Logan are working on the Weave It Detour, and London is especially confident since she crochets. However, London realizes she isn’t as good at weaving as she expected. She and Logan get nervous, so they decide to switch Detours. They go over to the Build It Detour where all the other teams are. They arrive there before anyone else has finished the task. Liz and Michael are the first to ask for an inspection. They fail the first inspection, but they soon realize their mistake. Seth and Olive also pass their inspection, and now both these teams are delivering the desk they just assembled.

Seth and Olive are the first team to deliver their desk to a classroom. After they learn four phrases from the teacher, they can now go to the Weave It Detour. Usually they would be in first place, but they were U-Turned. As they get to weaving, Liz and Michael and Tara and Joey deliver their desks too. They each receive a clue after learning the four phrases. They learn they must proceed to Darajani Market. Meanwhile, Matt and Redmond have finished the Weave It Detour and can make their way to the Build It Detour.

Vanck and Ashton, London and Logan, and Becca and Floyd finished assembling their desks and came make their way to the classroom. Brooke and Scott have already delivered their desk too, and they are currently in third place. Sara and Shamir are the only team still at the Build It Detour.

Tara and Joey are the first team to arrive at the Roadblock. They learn one team member must purchase a specific assortment of local items from the market. Joey chooses to do the Roadblock. Liz and Michael are the next to arrive, and Michael chooses to do the Roadblock. As all the other teams are delivering desks and getting through the Detour, Sara and Shamir begin panicking since they realize they’re falling behind. Shamir snaps at Sara in frustration as they struggle assembling their desk.

Vanck and Ashton are the third team to arrive at the Roadblock, and Vanck chooses to do the Roadblock. He struggles right away trying to find the items he needs. Meanwhile, Matt and Redmond are on their way to the Roadblock as Becca and Floyd, Brooke and Scott, and London and Logan arrive there at the same time. Floyd, Brooke, and London choose to do the Roadblock, and the three of them agree to work together. Shamir and Sara finally finish assembling their desk as Matt and Redmond arrive at the Roadblock. Matt chooses to do the Roadblock. As the contestants are working on the task, they are confused at how much money the vendors are asking for the items. Meanwhile, Shamir and Sara have finally completed the Detour and are hoping Seth and Olive are still behind them. However, Seth and Olive finished weaving the baskets and can proceed to the Roadblock.

Michael and Joey are the first two to complete the Roadblock, so they can now proceed to the Pit Stop: Emerson on Hurumzi. The last team to arrive there may be eliminated. As Liz and Michael and Tara and Joey leave the Roadblock, Sara and Shamir arrive there. Sara chooses to do the Roadblock. Vanck completes the Roadblock too, putting him and Ashton in third place at the moment.

Liz and Michael are the first team to arrive at the Pit Stop. They are Team #1! They win a trip to Amsterdam.

Matt is the next to finish the Roadblock, and he and Redmond are currently in fourth place. The other teams are stunned that they passed them since they were U-Turned. However, more teams begin completing the Roadblock too as Tara and Joey arrive at the Pit Stop as Team #2. In addition, Sara realizes she gave too much money to the vendors and has run out of money. She asks for money back from a vendor, but he is refusing to return any money. As Sara is struggling with the task, Seth and Olive finally arrive at the Roadblock. They are the only teams left at the Roadblock now. Eventually, Sara is given more money to complete the Roadblock.

Vanck and Ashton arrive at the Pit Stop as Team #3. As they are explaining to Phil why they U-Turned Matt and Redmond, Matt and Redmond arrive at the Pit Stop. Matt and Redmond fake excitement at seeing Vanck and Ashton before asking them why they U-Turned them. Vanck and Ashton say they lied to them in the last leg, but Redmond said they didn’t lie. Soon afterwards, Becca and Floyd arrive at the Pit Stop too. As Sara and Olive finally complete the Roadblock, London and Logan and Brooke and Scott are the next two teams to arrive at the Pit Stop. Seth estimates that he and Olive are only three minutes behind Sara and Shamir, so he thinks they should run to the Pit Stop instead of trying to catch a taxi.

However, Becca and Floyd realize they are missing a passport. They inform Phil, and he tells them they cannot be checked-in until they have their passports. Becca is extremely frustrated with Floyd for losing his passport as the two of them try to find the taxi driver that dropped them off. As Sara and Shamir and Seth and Olive are racing to the Pit Stop, Becca and Floyd are frantically trying to locate the taxi driver that might have their passport. Luckily for them, the driver finds them and gives them back the missing passport. Becca and Floyd can now return to the Pit Stop.

Sara and Shamir are the next team to arrive at the Pit Stop, and they are Team #7. The next team to arrive is….Becca and Floyd. They are officially Team #8, and they are relieved to have the passport. Becca insists she’ll be keeping the passports in her possession from now on too.

Seth and Olive are the last team to arrive at the Pit Stop. Phil informs them they have been eliminated from the race. They are disappointed, but they realize the U-Turn is part of the competition. They have no regrets and say the race has been a great experience.
