SYTYCD Winner Joshua Allen Pleads to Domestic Violence Charge

So You Think You Can Dance season 4 winner Joshua Allen has pleaded to a domestic violence charge, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

From the Wrap:

Joshua Demon Allen pleaded no contest to one felony count each of willfully injuring a girlfriend after a prior conviction. Allen also pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon, a glass vase.

Joshua is headed to jail.

In exchange for the plea, Allen received one year in county jail, five years of formal probation and 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling. He also was ordered to stay away from the victims for 10 years.

Allen…initially faced two felony counts of willfully injuring a girlfriend after a prior conviction and one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon. He could have received 10 years in state prison if convicted as charged.

A recap of the events that lead up to Joshua’s arrest, according to the district attorney’s office: On April 13, 2016, he assaulted and strangled his ex-girlfriend. Two months later, while facing prosecution for the April 13 incident, he attacked the ex-girlfriend again and she ran to a nearby coffee shop to ask for help.

Joshua chased her into the coffee shop, threw a glass vase at a woman who attempted to help the victim and attacked another man who also tried to intervene. He then vandalized the coffee shop until he was finally subdued by others on the premises.

During this time, Joshua was filming So You Think You Can Dance: Next Generation. By the time the arrest came to light, he had already taped The Academy round and was working with a young dancer. When the live shows began, another dancer, Marko Germar had taken over his role on the show. Shortly after, news broke of Joshua’s arrest.
