Survivor Season 36 Ghost Island Week 8 Recap and Live Blog

A new episode of Survivor: Ghost Island airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap and join the discussion here.

The episode begins with the tribe returning to camp after tribal council. Chris was voted out, but Libby got three votes. Libby is worried receiving votes again at tribal council, and she doesn’t know what she’s doing wrong. Elsewhere, Domenick is really happy that Chris is now out of the game. However, he fears being seen as a threat, so he plans to take a back seat and fly under the radar for the next few rounds in the game.

The next morning, Wendell says the upcoming vote is a lot less predictable now that Chris is gone. He plans to stay loyal to Domenick, Laurel, and Donathan, but he wants to bring in numbers for their side. He is concerned about Laurel flipping, but he hopes to ease her paranoia. Wendell tells Laurel that Domenick has a hidden immunity idol, and he asks if she’s on board with going to the end of the game with him and Domenick. After Laurel reassures Wendell she is with him, Wendell tells Laurel that he also has a hidden immunity idol. Laurel doesn’t believe him at first, but then realizes Wendell is telling the truth. In her confessional, Laurel is bothered by how much power Domenick and Wendell have right now. She also doesn’t like how she wasn’t told about these advantages earlier too. She also wonders if she should make a move against them down the line.

It’s time for the reward challenge. They will be divided into two teams of six, and they will have to use sand bags to knock down six targets in the ocean. The reward will be a taco meal. After a draw for team captains, the orange team has Domenick, Kellyn, Jenna, Sebastian, Desiree, and Michael. The purple team has Angela, Laurel, Wendell, Libby, Chelsea, and Donathan. The challenge begins, and each team member must walk across a beam from the ocean to the sand to reach a slingshot. With the use of the slingshot, they must try to hit a target with a sand bag. One at a time, they each try to knock down a target. After a close challenge, Wendell knocks down the last target for the purple team. Angela, Laurel, Wendell, Libby, Chelsea, and Donathan win reward! Afterwards, the tribe members on the losing team must draw rocks to determine who will go to Ghost Island. Jenna draws the white rock, so she will go to Ghost Island.

Jenna arrives at Ghost Island, and she learns she won’t get the chance to compete today. She’s disappointed, especially since there will be people talking at camp without her. Meanwhile, we see Angela, Laurel, Wendell, Libby, Chelsea, and Donathan enjoy their reward. We hear a confessional from Wendell, and he’s glad Donathan and Laurel at the reward with him. He wants the three of them and Domenick to be in the Final 4. Later, Libby tearfully asks them why does her name keep coming up. Chelsea says it’s because people see her and Michael as a close pair in the game.

After the reward, they all return to camp. We next hear a confessional from Michael. He says voting out Chris was a good move, and he now wants to split up Wendell and Domenick next. He sees Wendell as a bigger threat between the two, and he shares his thoughts with Angela. We then see Angela approach Kellyn about some of what Michael said. She also rats him out to other tribe members, including Wendell. Wendell is bothered by Michael targeting him, but he says it just makes the next move easier.

It’s time for the immunity challenge. It’s a food eating competition, and they will compete in rounds.

ROUND 1: Laurel, Jenna, Desiree, Michael, Libby, and Donathan must eat fish eyes. Michael, Desiree, and Laurel advance.

ROUND 2: Sebastian, Wendell, Chelsea, Kellyn, Angela, and Domenick must eat fish eyes. Angela, Sebastian, and Domenick advance.

ROUND 3: Michael, Desiree, Laurel, Angela, Sebastian, and Domenick must eat live beetle larvae. Michael, Angela, and Sebastian advance.

ROUND 4: Michael, Angela, and Sebastian must eat two sea slugs. Michael and Angela advance.

FINAL ROUND: Michael and Angela must eat a mother of pearl. Angela wins immunity!

The tribe returns to camp, and Angela is glad to have beaten Michael. She had a plan to put a target on his back, so it was a priority that he did not win immunity. She talks to her former Naviti tribe members, and everyone seems to be on board with voting out Michael. However, they are concerned about Michael having an idol. They agree to split the votes between Michael and Libby, with five votes on Michael and four votes on Libby. However, Laurel and Donathan are the swing votes. The two of them are considering whether or not to go against Naviti and blindside one of Wendell or Domenick. Later, we see Domenick tell Libby that the majority is voting for Michael and she is fine. However, Donathan approaches Libby and tells her that the plan is to split the votes between her and Michael. Libby is worried and doesn’t know who to trust. Wendell is also concerned whether or not the plan will go how he hopes, so he’ll bring his hidden immunity idol and play it if he believes he needs to.

It’s time for tribal council. Jeff first gives kudos to Angela for winning immunity. She said she’s been left out of talks in the past, so she needed to step up and win immunity. Jeff asks Donathan about the game, and Donathan says it’s not Malolo versus Naviti anymore. He sees people off doing their own thing. The talk turns to big moves, and Desiree says everyone playing Survivor should consider making big moves. Domenick adds that making a big move is a benefit for their resume if they’re in the Final 3. Wendell talks about the risks in targeting a big player since then they could become the next big target. Michael adds that people are getting too comfortable in the game, and Laurel says that people on the outside of the majority could be used as numbers to get out of the bottom of the alliance. Domenick says no one knows when someone will jump ship now that they’re at this point in the game. Kellyn says it won’t make sense to go from “purple to orange” since they’ll still be at the bottom of the group. Michael ends the discussion by saying people need to “seize the moment.” Afterwards, they cast their votes.

Before Jeff reads the votes, Michael plays his hidden immunity idol on himself.
