Simon Cowell is a seafaring hero. The Daily Star reports that the X Factor judge answered a Mayday call while he was sunning himself on his yacht in the Mediterranean. The ship in distress was another pleasure craft sinking with 9 people aboard.
TV star Simon, 52, instructed his captain and crew to race to the rescue.
When they were nearer to the stricken boat he used his tender vessel, which is attached to his yacht, to help evacuate those on board.
His staff also used specialist equipment to help pump water out of Slipstream.
His pal Sinitta apparently tweeted all the drama as it unfolded.
“Just had a mayday message, 35ft boat sinking. Simon has sent us to help and rescue 9 people on board!”
“Everyone ok, no-one hurt.
“Captain won’t let boat sink, petrol in sea etc.
“No tide, so hole plugged!”
A source close to Simon played down his involvement
“He only did what any good person would do.
“If his yacht was in trouble he would want someone to come to his rescue. It was just lucky they happened to be close by.
“When the call came through no-one knew exactly how serious it was so everyone stopped what they were doing and went to help.
“Thankfully, everyone was OK and Simon’s team got there in time.”
