According to his Myspace, Aaron Kelly is a “Legend in the Works”. He recently won the “American Idol Experience” at DisneyWorld which allowed him to skip the cattle call auditions and get an audition in front of the judges. He has already appeared on radio and TV and has had an indie recording contract since he was 10. He has been testing his songwriting talent by writing with more established songwriters in Nashville. A recent example is “The Letter” on his Myspace (one of his better vocals).

I always worry about the young kids on American Idol. Sometimes, it’s better to wait a few years, but this guy seems to have a lot of experience. 19Alphabet has had success in the past with female country artists (Carrie/Kellie) and Idol has produced male country artists for Lyric records (Josh/Bucky/Phil). Their first experiment with a male country artist is transplanted Danny Gokey (we’ll have to wait to see how that works out). A lot of people have been surprised they haven’t tried to make a star out of a male country singer (in a genre where people still buy albums).

This guy might be it. He seems like a mix of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and David Archuleta. Sounds like a recipe for success. He has a bunch of covers out there which shows he should be able to handle what Idol throws at him, he’s got long country roots and he’s cute as a bug (which the tweenies and grannies will love)

What do you think?

Spoiler from VFTW and IDF

  1. Yep I think tweenies and grannies will love this one.

His vocals kind of remind me of Jonathan from JB Rocket. Especially in this recent video. Maybe just…not as good?

  2. Wow hes cute enough, just hope to hell he doesnt come on the stage in that cowboy hat, and I love cowboy hats, but it will drive Simon up a wall.

  3. Cripes- is anyone actually able to read that MySpace page???

Personally I don’t like to see kids this young tossed to the wolves Idol Machine. He shows promise, but as country isn’t my bag I’ll leave that discussion alone :)

  4. According to his Myspace, Aaron Kelly is a ‘Legend in the Works’ .

Does it mean he claims himself that he is a “Legend in the Works”??? Self promoting ehh??? I guess nothing’s wrong with that. His Does it Rains, reminds me of Keith Urban…. Hopefully he’s unique enough to get to top 24… he could do well in country music… though I could careless.. coz I don’t listen to country

  5. I’m beginning to think I’m not going to watch this season if this is the crop.
    Zzzzzzzzzzzz

Most of these people will be cut. There are spoilers for 168 people or more out there that made it to Hollywood (within the typical range). These will be whittled down to 24 starting January 9th (a few days before the auditions start….hmmm….kind of gives credence to the theory that TPTB pick the finalists before Hollywood rounds even begin and it’s all just drama. How could they possible edit the audition episodes if they don’t know who makes it in Hollywood?). I may end up profiling not a single contestant that makes it through to the competition rounds. We may never even see these people. These are just shots in the dark.

The purpose is to get people talking about the new season, what works and doesn’t work on the show and maybe we’ll get lucky and profiile the eventual winner.

  7. This one is a keeper. Looking at the MySpace pic, he’s lost the baby fat and turned into a real nice looking guy. The voice is there, very much Blake Shelton/Jake Owen/Jason Aldean, can equally melt your heart and rev up the dance floor at the honky-tonk. That could be enough vocal versatility to grind through the Idol themes.

If he gets past on to the voting rounds, I’m sure he’ll make the tour, just on the country background and looks. With good song selection, he should have a good run on the show.

  8. (it’s going to rain) is a very nice song and he does a beautiful job on it.

Dear Lord, I hope they’re cut. So far it just looks painful to watch. I’m good with them already knowing and pre-picking who the finalists will be before the Hollywood rounds start. I figure the drama and pain of the other performances is to make the ones that do make it through Hollywood week look better than they really are.

  10. So far, at least 164 names have been identified, and there are at least 4 that are seen as probable (i.e. mentioned by sources, but not confirmed).

Tweens and country? That has never really been a solid combination in the past, but maybe this is it?

  11. Did y’all read that little write up on his Myspace about him? Sounds as though it was written by his mother.

Oh god he’s going to win. Or be eaten alive. Either one.

Yeah no kidding! Simon hates country doesn’t he? Yikes! Oh and when you say Oh God does that mean you don’t like him? :)

  13. Tweens and country? That has never really been a solid combination in the past, but maybe this is it?

Maybe not on Idol, but Taylor Swift’s success has got to have everyone in the music industry looking for their very own cute, teenaged country singer-songwriter. Aaron fits the bill, and is talented to boot. I can’t believe that rich, emotional voice is coming from a 16 year old. His sound is a little more traditional country than I like, but I think he could have a real shot, although I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s labeled as a plant, with all of that previous experience.

    Simon hates country doesn’t he?

He likes it when it has the potential to make lots of $$- see Underwood, Carrie.

I’d forgotten about the Idol Experience winners. Now that I’ve been reminded, I’d bet a lot of $$ that at least 1 of the Top 24 will be one of the IE winners. That’s too obvious of a tie-in for them to resist.

Yeah that is true. Well, Simon can go either way with Aaron.

  15. Oh god he’s going to win. Or be eaten alive. Either one.

    Are you kidding or serious?????

Little children singing always freaks me out.. and I don’t like country. But I do see a lot of teen-squeeing potential in him. I do think the girl vote ruins runs this show.

  17. Are you kidding or serious?????

Serious! I could see Simon pulverizing him, but if he made the Top 12.. Look at him. He’s a cute little boy that plays the guitar. young girls will vote their little thumbs off for him. plus, he really isn’t bad..

Cool. I totally agree with you! :)

(Sometimes I don’t get what people mean online…).

  19. edit: his cover of already there by lonestar is pretty good if you can get through the background noise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhqlFdYHLhs

I checked out the rest of his recent videos – his voice totally fits the whole Keith Urban, more pop/country style. If he gets through to the Top 24, I think he could do really, really well on Idol.

And if he does, he’ll sell more than Archie. Yep.

  20. Really nice voice that sounds like it was born country. He doesn’t add any individuality to the songs he covers though. Kind of wish he were older too, he’d probably benefit from it.

  21. David Archuleta he is NOT. David is one in a MILLION ~ a child prodigy ~ and “tweenies & grannies aren’t the ONLY ones who are crazy about him! This guy (Aaron) is an “ok” country singer though! I wish him well!

  22. Aaron Kelly was the next one whose eliminated in the American idol this week. Luckily he’s able to be in the final four, that was a big chance there but he didn’t make it plus he’s been on the bottom list lately. Good to his singing career after the Idol.
