Pitbull in Negotiations to Guest Star on Glee + Casting For Rachel’s Gay Dads

Well it, looks like Ryan Murphy’s “Back to Basics” edict is officially over for Glee. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the show is wooing Pop/Latin star, Pitbull to play Santana’s (Naya Rivera) brother. It’s already been announced that Gloria Estefan will play the family matriarch.

Originally, Ricky Martin was set to appear in the Estafan episode as a hot Spanish teacher (competition for Will Shuester who also teaches Spanish?).  But now Ricky will get his own episode in January, while Estafan’s and Pitbull’s (if the negotiations pan out) episode will air later this winter. The change was made to make way for a giant family musical number in the Estefan episode.

There goes Murphy, once again flying by the seat of his pants. After he added a slew of writers/producers to the show, I was hoping the story arcs for the season would be mapped out well in advance. Maybe not?

Glee ratings are down from last season. For instance, last year’s Sectionals episode, which aired on November 30, 2010 had a 4.5 adults 18-49 rating with 10.7M viewers. This week’s sectionals episode had 3.0 adults 18-49 rating and 7.1M viewers.

I hope Glee producers don’t lay on the gimmicks in the 2nd half of the season in order to goose ratings. The first 8 episodes of Season 3–sans guest stars and tribute shows–have featured some of the best storytelling and musical numbers of the entire series run.

Also, Murphy, is currently casting for Rachel’s gay dads.  He said over the summer he wasn’t sure if the dad’s would be making an appearance this season. How much you wanna bet he casts big stars in the roles? HI ELTON JOHN.
