Phillip Phillips Cancels Remaining College Tour Dates Due to Illness (UPDATED)

OH NO! Phillip Phillips has cancelled the rest of his college tour, due to illness, according to a press release posted by one of campuses, University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.

Singer-guitarist Phillip Phillips — winner of the eleventh season of the Fox television series American Idol — was to appear in concert May 6 with special guest Gin Wigmore. On May 5 the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire was notified that Phillips has cancelled the remainder of his spring tour due to illness.

He had 9 gigs remaining on his tour, which included a concert in Dublin, Ireland.

Phillip’s health issues have been well documented. Phillip was in severe pain throughout his run on American Idol due to a recurrence of kidney stones from a chronic problem. After he won the title, Philip went straight into surgery to have a kidney reconstructed. He’s been in seemingly good health since them.

There’s no word on whether his appearance on the May 16 Idol finale will be cancelled. Phillip is set to go on tour with John Mayer beginning in early July.

Whatever is ailing Phillip, here’s to a speedy recovery.

UPDATE: Phillip tweets:

According to a Hollywood Reporter source:

“His doctor said he has to get off the road. He was playing six shows a week, and it’s too much for him. His body doesn’t bounce back, and he’s been feeling run-down,” says the source.”
