Nick Cannon is Team Gabby When it Comes to America’s Got Talent

Former America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon quit the NBC talent show before the 2017 season after beefing with NBC brass. His complaints were similar to what Gabrielle Union has been complaining about in the wake of her firing from the show after 1 season.

In a recent interview with VladTV, originally reported by USA Today, Nick made it clear that he was Team Gabby. “Gabby’s my girl. I’ve been standing firmly with her and support whatever she needs,” he said. “Whatever she said, if it happened, I’m rocking with you. Let’s go.”

As far as Terry Crews is concerned, Nick isn’t mad at him. But makes it clear he doesn’t exactly admire Terry for sticking by “the man” aka NBC.  In a recent Today show interview, Terry staunchly defended NBC and producers, insisting there was no racism he could see. He shrugged off the controversy as a bunch of unsubstantiated reports. After the interview dropped, Gabrielle responded angrily on social media. Terry clapped back, insisting the only woman who mattered to him was his wife.

UK’s Fremantle Media Doesn’t Understand American Culture, Says Nick

Nick puts some of the blame for the controversy on Fremantle Media, the company that produces both America’s Got Talent and American Idol.

“Fremantle (is) based out of the U.K. and a lot of their producers don’t understand the cultural sensitivities of American culture. And then … you have a network like NBC that’s only really worried about the dollar at the end of the day,” Nick said. “All they want to see is that final product. They don’t care how you got to it.”

“So, when someone like Gabby, who is well educated, well-versed in speaking her mind, says, ‘Oh, this isn’t right, this shouldn’t be occurring,’ then people are like, ‘Now, she’s angry. Now, she’s a troublemaker.’ No. She’s pointing out things that are true issues that need to be fixed.”

Nick Cannon on Terry Crews Sticking Up for NBC: “We Get Excited to Work for The Man”

Nick stressed that he loves Terry and doesn’t blame him. BUT, he believes that Terry, who is employed on both America’s Got Talent and the NBC sitcom, Brooklyn-Nine-Nine is afraid to cross his employer.

“We get excited about the occupation. We get excited to work for the man and we’re going to defend the man because he gave me a job. And ‘I ain’t seen nothing’ becomes the thing. It don’t matter what you saw,” Nick said, adding that he supported Terry when he accused his then-agent, Adam Venit, of groping him.

“I stood firmly by him when my former agent accosted him and people thought it was funny. We all thought it was funny, because the situation was so hard to believe that sometimes it can appear to be humorous,” Nick said. “But the idea was it didn’t matter if it was funny. We stood by you because you said this was an issue. We didn’t see Adam Venit grab your genitalia, but you said it happened so we rocked with you.”

Masked Singer is Kicking AGT’s A** Says Nick

Nick walked away from a lucrative payday. But he’s doing just fine. Aside from radio, comedy specials and touring, he is currently hosting The Masked Singer for FOX, which is the highest rated non-sports show on television right now.  “No 1 show on television,” said Nick in the interview. “Masked Singer is kicking AGT’s a**.”

Sidenote: Interestingly, Nick didn’t even mention AGT executive producer, Simon Cowell. And other than his smoking indoors, and disagreements with Gabrielle over cast diversity, Simon has kept his personal brand fairly clean through all the chaos. It’s NBC that’s taking the biggest hit over the controversy, I think.
