  1. Wow! Congratulation Fifth Harmony! Beat all those 4 famous artists? Unbelievable!

  2. I’m not sure this is 100% a good thing. Being known as the group with the crazy fans who spam polls, doesn’t gain you much respect.

  3. I have no choice but remember them for making me log off Twitter just to get away from those FLOODING tweets under the guise of using accounts I normally follow..ughhh

  4. Does anyone think Fifth Harmony winning now both an EMA and a VMA bodes well for them being nominated for a Grammy?

  5. Doubtful. Their EMA and VMA awards are both fan-voted. Outside MTV, I don’t think they’ve really made an impact quite yet.

I wish them well though. That Sledgehammer song is much better than Boss, so hopefully it’ll have better success.

  6. No. What it means is they can command a huge fee to play at a private sweet sixteen or quincenara party.

  7. lol. They are exactly what the industry hates; artificially manufactured, reality show acts.
    So yeah, no chance.

  8. no….these are fan voted MTV related awards. Its been a complete head scratcher that any of the grammy articles have even mentioned them at all given that they haven’t had a hit single, haven’t released a full length album, and haven’t received critical acclaim from any of the usual sources….right now they are basically danity kane 2.0 But they are getting amazing support from MTV and a handful of pop stations so maybe they will get a hit single and album eventually

  9. Yeah if VMAs or any fan voted awards for that matter and Grammy’s had any correlation Bieber would be a 20 time Grammy winner.

  10. This thread (the awards themselves) just made my morning….it’s like someone telling me actually funny jokes one after the other with no stopping the ridiculousness of the jokes. I’m having a hard time finding one winner that I can relate to, much less any of the nominees. But then, I’m not a 12 year old girl with computer privileges. Wonder if these voters will laugh at themselves as hard as I do at the idiotic musicians I liked when I got my first radio….can’t remember their names anymore and they don’t even make the “where are they now” lists.

  11. I’m actually a little surprised they didn’t win the best worldwide act, because every time I look up something about FH is trending on twitter. Their fans are very organized about voting for this stuff.

  12. They seem to have the support of some of the heavy hitters in radio. They just need a good song. I can see what you mean, they seem to generate a lot of buzz, but none of that buzz is about the songs that they’ve released.

  13. who? I see a ton of support from MTV, but not all that much from radio, beyond Disney Radio. Has iHeart Radio been a big supporter? I’ve never heard any of their songs on the radio, TBH, and none of their singles have charted very high.

  14. “Best Worldwide Act” is ALWAYS won by some Asian act, unknown to the western world.

  15. I’ll take your word for that I guess. I don’t know anything about them, don’t listen to the type of radio that does or would play them. They are completely off my musical radar.

  16. One of their biggest supporters has been Z100, but I was not talking in terms of radio play. They are always popping up in interviews and special events for Clear Channel stations. Given that they’ve built a relationship with that company, their label is dropping the ball in finding them a song that stations will play.

  17. Congrats to Fifth Harmony. It may appear that they have more buzz than their accomplishments merit. But the best way to not accomplish much is to have little buzz. So good for them.

  18. You think people like Beyonce and Katy Perry winning these awards means they only have 12 year old fans voting? Even One Direction has a fanbase that expands way past 12 years olds. These are global superstars who are way more than tween acts. Enrique Iglesius has been around for years and has a diverse fanbase. I know 40 years olds who travel to their concerts. Just because some current musical acts may not be to your liking it doesnt mean only “12 years” olds are their only fans.

  19. If radio stations aren’t playing your songs, does it really matter if they interview them? This has happened to many a reality show contestant before. Stations will bring them in for interviews and they’ll even post acoustic performances on their website — but they don’t play their music on the radio.

  20. That’s exactly what I was thinking. Radio-station interviews just mean you’re doing a radio tour. Actual airplay is where the rubber hits the road.

Far too many Idol fanbases have had the experience of following a huge radio tour with disappointing airplay and a chart peak below #20.

  21. why laugh and label them idiotic? when I think back at all of the singers and bands I used to paper my bedroom walls with posters of at 12/13 it makes me smile and think happy thoughts…some turned out to have long successful careers…others were flash in the pan teen idols…others fall somewhere in between. All were talented. Every generation has their “people”….

  22. I’m pretty sure hat I said that they need better songs and airplay. In fact, I said that in the original post and the second one. But, based on what I’ve seen, it does look like they’ve won over a lot of people in radio, which is one of the reasons why they’ve been able to make an impact on social media, and sell 300K copies of a song that’s not getting a lot of exposure.

  23. Same here. I have great memories from my teen years when I use to buy teen mags and hang posters on my wall. Even the one hit wonders I still look back and smile. But my big obsession back then was NSync and Backstreet Boys. Yep NSync..you know the band that put Justin Timberlake, one of the superstars of today on the map :)
