Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Sep 17-23

X-Factor makes its presence known, the Canadian Idol invasion continues and “Home” reinforces its claim to being the most successful coronation single ever.

From X-Factor UK, One Direction explodes onto the Pop chart with their new single “Live Like We’re Young” (which they are). This is their debut single for their second album…their second album to be released in the US this year. The song wasted no time debuting in the top 40 on the Top 40 format in its first week. Taking a more sedate path is X-Factor’s US winner, Melanie Aramo. She too debuted on the Pop chart. She has released two singles to build anticipation of her album and both had milestones this week. “Don’t Fail Me Now” (also used in X-Factor commercials) went top 50 on Pop while “Love Me Now” went top 40 on UAC.

Carly Rae Jepsen has been the most successful Canadian Idol on US radio. Her album debuted last week, but it is her duet with Owl City that made the mediabase milestone this week. “Good Time” debuted in the top 40 on AC. Also from Canadian Idol (and also finishing third) is the lead singer of the band Hedley. They actually made some noise on American radio before Carly, but I believe going top 30 this week with “Kiss You Inside Out” on HAC is the highest they’ve gone.

“Home” is just not going to stop (wouldn’t it be the perfect boot song? As NBC has already shown, it is constructed perfectly for montages. From coronation to boot song…the song will haunt Phil into his old age). This week, the song hit three milestones…top 15 on AC and AAA and top 30 on Pop. The song is in the top 10 in one format, top 15 in three and top 30 in 4.

A final milestone this week is from Daughtry who went top 40 on HAC with “Start of Something Good”.

And I can’t help but noticing that Kirsty Lee Cook (she who has reeked her vengence on Idol and has successfully predicted the last 5 winners) has a new single out that appears to play to her strengths.
