Masked Dancer/Name That Tune Ratings Suffer vs Capitol Riot Coverage

Every broadcast network Wednesday night preempted their primetime schedule for coverage of the Trump riots at the Capitol. That is, every broadcast network but FOX. As it turns out, viewers were glued to their TVs, watching coverage from Washington DC. AND FOX”s typically big Wednesday night of shows from the Masked franchise suffered.

NBC won the night with their live coverage of the Capitol, averaging 1.0 rating in the key 18-49 demo and 5.4 million viewers. ABC was second in viewers with 4.2 million and tied for second in the demo with a 0.7 rating in the key demo. CBS aired repeats rom 8-9 pm before switching to special news coverage from 10-11. Overall, the network averaged a 0.4 rating and 2.5 million viewers.

Over on FOX, The Masked Dancer garnered a 0.7 rating and 2.8 million viewers. Compare that with the December 27 premiere after the NFL game, which notched a 1.4 rating in the demo and 5.1 million viewers. FOX’s new game show, the rebooted Name That Tune featuring Randy Jackson aired at 9 and retained Masked Dancer’s 0.7 demo and built on its overall audience, averaging just over 3 million in its time slot.

Wednesday was the regular time slot premier for The Masked Dancer. With networks back to regular programming next week, we’ll see if the ratings for the show and Name That Tune rises.
