Listen to Maddie Poppe’s Chill New Song “Peace of Mind”

Maddie Poppe

Maddie Poppe drops another new pop song, the chill “Peace of Mind.” The American Idol season 16 winner posted about the song on social media, “Had the best time writing this one with @andyskib and @thomasfinchum. Hope you love it as much as we do.”

Nashville producer and songwriter Andy Skib previously collaborated with American Idol alum, David Cook on several projects, including his 2011 album This Loud Morning and 2015’s Digital Vein. Skib also toured with the season 8 winner as part of his band.

On his Instagram, co-writer Thomas Finchum posted, “Have been playing this one on repeat since the day we wrote it! Thanks for believing in this song @maddiepoppe  and shout out to @andyskib for writing it with us and killing the production. #peaceofmind.”

The vibey new song describes a relationship that finally feels right. The singer, who previously assumed that all relationships end in goodbye, is finally ready to let her guard down.

The lyrics go:

This won’t end with someone leaving
Sayin’ ‘it ain’t you it’s me’ and that’s the reason why
I’m letting down my guard so easy, let you in and let you see me
In ways that I never knew that I could do
Cuz when it comes to you
You give me peace of mind

Maddie finds a new sound

“Peace of Mind” carries on Maddie’s transformation from a folk to pop. Last May she released the bubbly, upbeat song, “The One That Got Away,” which marked a major shift in her sound.

“I feel like for a while, I just wanted to do what other people wanted me to do,” Maddie shared with People magazine about essentially re-inventing herself. “I lived to please other people. And I felt that since people voted for my folk/Americana sort of sound on American Idol, that was the sound I was meant to have, because they were the ones that put me here, you know? That’s when I realized that I needed to love what I was putting out.”

“I wanted to get the same feelings from the music I put out that I would get from listening to some of my favorite artists,” said Maddie. “But it took some time to get there. There were times that I was really frustrated. I didn’t even know who I wanted to be and what I wanted my sound to be. But then we landed on this song [The One That Got Away], and I knew this was it.”

Out on the Road

Aside from releasing new music, the singer is also touring the country. She recently finished a string of dates on the East coast, and is working her way to the West. On August 27, she and American Idol season 20 alum Fritz Hager will open for his fellow season 20 singer Leah Marlene’s hometown show in Normal, Illinois.

Meanwhile, Fritz will open for Maddie’s West coast concert stops, including Salt Lake City UT on Aug 22, Seattle, WA on Aug 24, Portland, OR on Aug 25, Los Angeles, CA on Aug 31. Click HERE for information.
