Some of you were asking about Spike TV’s new reality show, Lip Sync Battle, which pits stars against each other in over the top lip dubs. A winner is declared at the end of the 30 minute episode, determined by the enthusiastic response of the studio audience. It’s all very deliberately cheesy. Celebrities, unafraid to look ridiculous for the sake of entertainment, is what it’s all about here.
The first two episodes aired on April 2 at 10 pm on Spike and featured Dwayne Johnson vs Jimmy Fallon and Common vs John Legend. The whole shebang is hosted by LL Cool J, with supermodel Chrissy Teigen on the sidelines (this is the male skewing SPIKE TV after all).
The concept was thought up originally by The Office star, John Krasinski, his wife, actress, Emily Blunt and British Office co-creator Stephen Merchant while road-tripping, according to Rolling Stone magazine. The game found a home originally on their friend, Jimmy Fallon’s late night talk shows beginning in 2013. After NBC passed on the idea for a stand-alone show, Spike bought the concept.

In round 1, Dwayne Lipsyncs to Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” while Jimmy brought the island flavor with some Harry Belafonte.

Things get real as Jimmy takes on Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” with a choir. Dwayne is John Travolta “Staying Alive” in Saturday night Fever.
The winner of Lip Sync battle, according to the highly scientific screams of the audience, is Dwayne Johnson.
Common vs John Legend Round 1
John Legend is married to Chrissy Teigen, in case you didn’t know. Common’s first song is “I Want You Back” by Jackson 5, and John Legend gets his rap on with “Slow Motion” by Juvenile, complete with fake grill. John: “I never really sang about being somebody’s outside dick before” Common: “I have been somebody’s outside dick.” Chrissy: “What the f*ck was that?”
Common vs John Legend Round 2
Common dons a curly wig to lip sync “All Night Long” by Lionel Richie, while John Legend “raps” again via “Can’t Touch This” with the parachute pants et al. The joke is, that the competitors are taking on each other’s genres. Chrissy remains horrified at her husband throughout. Common wins the battle.
