Kristen Merlin absolutely wowed the coaches with a deeply felt performance of Jewel’s “Foolish Games” on The Voice 6 Top 5 performance show.
As her coach, Shakira, has mentioned many times, Kristen has fought hard to stay in the competition. She’s the epitome of a singing show underdog. Pegged as fodder initially, she has stayed in the game with consistently heartfelt performances.
“That’s the most connected that I’ve ever seen you be with a lyric,” Blake Shelton said after her performance. “She dumped her heart and soul into that performance.”
Usher gave all the props to Kristen’s coach, Shakira. He erroneously called her “Cuban” (she’s from Columbia) but we got the jist–that her coach has continued to push Kristen in the right direction.
“When you’re pushed in the corner,” said Usher, “You come out swinging every time.”
“You give people chills,” said Shakira. “You are a storyteller.
“The way you narrate stories. You’re so emotional,” her coach continued.
“I think you just had one of those moments,” declared Shakira, “A lot of people are gonna get this song [on iTunes].”
Indeed. Kristen’s “Foolish Games” is #20 and climbing on the iTunes overall chart.
