Kris Allen Sings Tim McGraw By Request!

UPDATE:  According to a tweet from Kris, tonight’s show in Arlington/Dallas has been canceled. He doesn’t go into detail: “I regret to inform you that the show tonight is cancelled. Don’t worry Dallas we will be back.” (probably due to bad weather–it’s cold and rainy there right now)

Kris Allen performed last night at Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme park in San Antonio, Texas with OneRepublic.

Earlier in the day, at an acoustic radio gig, after somebody shouted out a request for “Live Like YOU’RE Dying”, Kris and Cale sang a little impromptu version of the Tim McGraw hit.

Kris and the band are set to play a second show at Six Flags Arlington, with OneRepublic tonight.

This was at the acoustic gig Kris and Cale played earlier in the day — not at Six Flags

And Kris and OneRepublic are playing in Dallas today — not San Antonio

  2. Yeah, this was the earlier radio gig. Tonight’s show is at Six Flags in Arlington (between Dallas and Fort Worth).

But, man, Kris is funny here. I love how he is so snarky and just rolls with it.

  3. Kris is so adorably snarky and funny when he wants to be. And Cale is funny, too — they play off each other really well — advantage of being longtime friends, I guess. Neither one of them was too sure of how that Tim McGraw song goes, though – LOL

  4. Kris was hilarious and I loved that they then attempted the Tim McGraw song. The ‘my grandma is throwing down drinks at you from the bar’ cracked me up. Oh and ‘Yeah Woody … Woody Harrleson’

    Plus I love the hat.

  5. (San Antonio Spurs Tim Duncan #21 fan here:) I believe the video above was taken earlier in the day as mentioned above, at a bar venue called Sherlock’s, and it was a radio promotion event. I believe you had to win tickets to go.
As for me, I was out of luck and didn’t try to go see Kris at Fiesta Texas due it being an outdoor event. I don’t do well with sun (or wait in line for hours for a good spot concerts!). Sure hope Kris comes back to SA to perform indoors! His Grandma lives here, is that what he said? Coool!
I did follow along on Twitter last night and it seems that most concertgoers very much enjoyed Kris and some said they didn’t stay for One Republic, ha! There were tweets that Kris and bandmates rode the rides after performing, awesome!

Why did Kris sing the country song and not his own version?

Someone shouted out the wrong song title “LLYD”. They took it and ran with it. I am pretty sure that they then sung LLWD.

BTW: I love Cale’s voice. I really wouldn’t mind him being the lead singer on a song during one of their concerts.

Why did Kris sing the country song and not his own version?

He just sang a part of it because someone in the audience yelled out the Tim McGraw title (Live Like YOU’RE Dying) in error when he said they were going to do his song that’s on the radio. It was improptu, and funny. They then sang Kris’ song ‘Live Like We’re Dying’. This video doesn’t show that. It stops after the funny stuff.

  8. The Krale show is very funny! I only wish we could see Cale as he plays off Kris and vice versa. Good stuff!

  9. Someone shouted out the wrong song title “LLYD”

Oh, ok, thanks! I was confused!

  10. I thoroughly enjoyed the video and Kris’ banter. And yes his timing is impecable. And what I am about to say is not a dis of Kris it is just how I envision the guy.

I think Kris performs the very best at small intimate venues where he is up close and personal with his audience. The bigger the venue the more, IMHO, Kris seems to loose conrol of the “winning” Kris Allen. I think he needs to concentrate on these smaller type of performances. “Big” shows are not every entertainer’s balliwick…and I think for Kris to succeed he needs to do a lot of these small gigs and get his new fans one at a time. That type of approach would spell longevity to me.

  11. It is not a good day for an outdoor concert in Arlington. It is wet with the temperature about 35 and a windchill in the 20’s.

  12. I think Kris does well at these smaller venues but I also appreciate his appearances at larger events. Here are some new pictures from his KL appearance. Love the bodysurfing one.

Also, I never heard a figure for the attendance at the Wichita concert, but their website said they could hold 6,700 and when I checked to see how tickets were going only nosebleed seats in the back were offered. It is my understanding that Kris was considered the headliner. This is the kind of concert I want to go to. We need more of these.

Here is a video that shows the fans’ reactions:

  13. Kris has shown that he can perform in venues of every size, and in front of different types of audiences. His voice does well in all settings, and he’s smart enough to tailor his set to fit both the venue and the audience.

There have been plenty of artists who have alternated performing in arenas, clubs, theaters, etc.

It’s a shame that the show was canceled, but they are predicting snow, so it’s probably for the best.

While I’ve loved all of the videos from the intimate gigs Kris has done recently, I think he’s got the potential to succeed in both small and large settings. Watching the videos from the Six Flags concert yesterday (here’s the yt channel), I was impressed by how Kris’s voice filled the amphitheater and by how active and lively he was throughout (I love bouncy! Kris). He and his band are getting better and better at working the stage and the crowd. Most of all, they just really seem to love what they’re doing, and that passion and joy go a long way toward drawing an audience in, no matter what size.

  15. Most of all, they just really seem to love what they’re doing, and that passion and joy go a long way toward drawing an audience in, no matter what size.

This. I love watching performers who genuinely let the audience feel and know that they love what they are doing. Nothing turns me off faster than seeing groups who act like someone is forcing them to perform, or like it’s the worse job in the world.

  16. I agree Kris can pull off any size venue….as we’ve seen from all the videos posted here… I really enjoy his banter in the smaller settings as much as I enjoy his crazy energy in large ones….I think it will serve him well to do a healthy mix……
    BTW: Tess – Love the disclaimer… LOL….

Wait, which one is cancelled ? I thought that he is still in Texas ? There is snow in Texas ?

As a fan, I like the small venues obviously just because it is close and his voice is clearer in acoustic setting, although him w/ the band is awesome too. I think what makes Kris so good & versatile is because he can go to acoustic small setting or w/ the band in a medium venues, or even bigger venues since he can rock it really good too.

The problem w/ limiting it to only really smaller venues is that the fans probably are already Kris fans and have the cds already. So, either he plays with someone else / opens to someone else in a medium venues and hope that the other guys’ fans are interested.

  18. Tonight’s show in Arlington, Texas at Six Flags is canceled. The whole park is closed because of the bad weather (cold, very windy, possibility of snow, although I doubt Arlington itself will see much, if any). Yes, we get snow in Texas — had over a foot here in north Fort Worth on a single day last month. Not common, but not unheard of, either. Major bummer today, though. Last weekend of spring break for the kids, and I really wanted to go to this concert tonight.

  19. I’m with those that believe Kris can do well in any size venue. I’ve seen videos and the audience appreciation at all levels. In addition, I personally want to see Kris in both settings in the future.

Has anyone heard anything more about the Keith Urban State Fairs? Interestingly enough, I told my friend who’s going with me that things were unclear about what’s going on (she has always wanted to see Keith Urban live) and she was disappointed about the possibility of Kris not being there. (Of course I am as well.) I hope this isn’t too far OT since we’re discussing Kris in concert…

  20. PattyP, I’m sorry you’ll be missing your concert tonight. :(

  21. LOL – another fine example of Kris’ banter and that he doesn’t take himself too seriously.

At small stage the interaction between artist and audience is more personal, but bigger venues with bigger audience gives more energy to artist. I think Kris can handle both small and big venues. Examples of Kris’ performances in front of big crowd can be seen on videos from Philippines.

I hope Kris will open for Keith Urban and other big acts as I believe that he can gain many new fans with his excellent performances.

  22. PattyP, I’m sorry for you. I hope they’ll arrange another date soon.

  23. cookcricket: Has anyone heard anything more about the Keith Urban State Fairs?

Nope…sigh. I’m sorry today’s concert was cancelled for those Kris fans who were planning to go. Winter sucks–boo.

Anybody catch the cute smile exchange during MITM at Wichita? Torres decides to add a little “washed out dreams” harmony at around 2:25, much to the amusement of Cale, and then Kris even turns around and grins at him. Funny!

hoosiermama, yes i noticed. It’s fun; they seem to me a close knitted group and they obviously have a lot of chemistry

Tess. lol at your disclaimer… this said, i think Kris is good at any type of venue. He did well at the Madison Square Garden, as well as the smaller venue. At the smaller ones, it’s just more easy for intereactions with the nearby crowd.

PattyP, sad that the show was cancelled tonight but I think it will be rescheduled soon :)

  25. His banter is just soooo good! Not everyone knows how to do that well. He looks so relaxed on stage these days :)

Sorry to the fans who got rained/snowed out tonight :(

  26. Aw, thanks — I’m sure it will be rescheduled soon, too. I didn’t realize the park was open so many days between now and summer … thought it was only open during spring break and then not until summer, but apparently it will be open every weekend between now and then, as well as all week beginning in mid-May. Shows how much I pay attention to their schedule! That gives plenty of dates for the concert to be rescheduled. I wonder if they will try to get both One Republic and Kris back on the same bill again?

By the way, only a tiny bit of snow and sleet so far today, off and on, but mostly off. But, very cold and extremely windy, so it would have been miserable to put on a show or be in attendance at an outdoor show tonight. Glad Kris won’t be freezing his buns off onstage here!

  27. A tweeter said they got an e-mail about Kris/and Keith for the Indiana State Fair one here’s the tweet.for all of my Kris Allen fans, fyi he will be at the IN State Fair on Aug. 14 with Keith Urban, I just got an e-mail about it.

  28. A tweeter said they got an e-mail about Kris/and Keith for the Indiana State Fair

Great! It’s probably in response to concerned Kris fans calling about tickets they’ve already purchased, but the optimist in me hopes it means they’re getting ready to formally announce Kris’ summer touring plans.

Oh good! This is the one I have tickets for. I also clicked on ticketmaster through KU’s website a little bit ago (even though I already have the tickets) and Kris is listed on there with him as well.

This makes me hopeful that all of the others will still be on as well.

  30. ilovekrisallen39: thanks for the tweet info. I wonder who sent out that email, as in is it a reliable source? But still, it gives me and cookcricket hope that we’ll be waving at each other come August 14! Fingers crossed!

You know, this week would be the perfect time for Kris to announce his summer tour schedule. Right before he heads off to Rwanda. Come to think of it, it would be a perfect time to announce his second single too! Make it happen, Kris—pleeeeeeeease (falsetto note)! :-)

Good catch Hoosiermama !!!! You can hear a bit of a laugh in Kris’ voice as he keeps singing too……That was great :)

  32. i received my tickets for the Champlain Valley (Vermont) fair concert and Kris’s name is not on the ticket. I guess i shouldn’t worry but will be glad to see the concert listed on Kris’s site soon.

  33. Come to think of it, it would be a perfect time to announce his second single too!

I think right after Rwanda will be perfect because he can start promoting it right away

  34. very short twitvid of Kris hanging out with some of his friends — I’m assuming this is from today

    http://www.twitvid.com/381C6

Thanks girlygirl for the video. There’s another one after this one where Charles badly teases Kris. We can hear him say at the end “i’m out of here”

  35. Awww…Kris and Cale had a baby! Congratulations to the happy couple!

girlygirl–sorry about your team’s BB loss. I watched the end of that game. Exciting!

  36. That’s a shame the concert was cancelled for tonight. It doesn’t sound like it would have been pleasant conditions though with that type of weather. I wonder if Kris and the band will end up playing in a small club since they’re in town. I bet some fans are in stalking mode.

  37. i received my tickets for the Champlain Valley (Vermont) fair concert and Kris’s name is not on the ticket. I guess i shouldn’t worry but will be glad to see the concert listed on Kris’s site soon.

Is there any way to contact anyone about this? Like, a box office? They advertised Kris and that’s why many people bought tickets. It would be nice to confirm he’ll be there.

  38. Is there any way to contact anyone about this? Like, a box office? They advertised Kris and that’s why many people bought tickets. It would be nice to confirm he’ll be there.

I guess there is a way but I haven’t done any research because the concert is still far away (September 4th) and there is much time for Kris ‘s appearance to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

  39. Thanks Ratna12 and Ilovekris39 for posting video links. I just now got my registration completed…thanks mj. I’ve been a stalker here for a long time, just now had a reason to comment. Kris was awesome. Very funny and had some great moves! Very bouncy, as was Cale and even Andrew & Chris. A while back someone commented about how different and so great Kris sounds in person, and they were so right. His voice is very strong and clear. Falsettos spot on, and harmonies were gorgeous. Getting the girls up to do AWM was the best. Loved the group hug. One of his 1st comments was “Glad to be back in the South!” Said he had family there, think it’s his grandmother, and he said he’d be back. But can’t decide which song I liked best. Is It Over was too much…Andrew and Cale had a jam session that was un-be-lievable. Glad he did Falling Slowly Mashup, had some changes at the end with harmonies to die for.

I think most of the crowd was there to see Kris. Some left after his set. The “video police” were relentless. I got caught twice, but managed not to get kicked out…one guy did. But One Republic were kick-ass! And gave a great shout-out to Kris. All the band guys, but Kris (he might have been hiding in the backgound), hung around on the edge of the stage to watch One Republic. One time they tried to walk out towards the audience to watch, but guess it didn’t work cause they came back.

It was an awesome concert. Haven’t been to one in a hundred years! Thank goodness they came to San Antonio on Fri before the bad weather arrived.

  40. Thanks for the recap, suzaustin! I’ve always loved IIO, and the video of the San Antonio IIO was just amazing.

  41. The “video police” were relentless. I got caught twice, but managed not to get kicked out…one guy did.

I never undertand that. If somebody is filming inside a movie theater, OK because it can be for sale, but outside in public ? So what if it will be on YT ? Makes the place more popular, doesn’t it.

Anyway, thanks for the people that tried to tape the performances and sharing it with us.

  42. I love the girl’s with the “I <3 Kris Allen" t-shirt reaction in AWM video. She lost it when Kris was wailing on his knees almost in front of her.

In Is It Over, Kris’ feet were so busy, never stop.
he should get that little machine that measures how many steps you are taking.

  43. Thanks suzaustin for the recap. Loved all the videos and I have a soft spot for IIO. AWM was fun and the group hug was all win.

  44. I guess there is a way but I haven’t done any research because the concert is still far away (September 4th) and there is much time for Kris ’s appearance to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

That makes sense. I guess I’m just sort of anxious, awaiting word about those concerts. I know some folks have held off buying tickets to them because they’re not sure Kris will be performing. Then when or if it gets confirmed, it might be too late to get tickets; the events might be sold out.

  45. I know some folks have held off buying tickets to them because they’re not sure Kris will be performing. Then when or if it gets confirmed, it might be too late to get tickets; the events might be sold out.

ross, yeah that’s right. Hopefully it will get confirmed soon. I don’t understand though why it hasn’t been yet on Kris site.
It’s a belated comment but want nevertheless to say… you really cracked me up with your ‘black lagoon creature’ comment the other day. That was so hilarious :D

  46. Looks like Keith Urban’s website has removed the Iowa show from the list of shows Kris is playing with Keith. Or so I read on twitter. Was there an Iowa show? Were there six shows originally? I don’t remember. (mtlfan, yeah that’s just how that outfit struck me! Kinda mean of me I guess.)

    http://www.keithurban.net/news.html%3Fn_id%3D15053

  47. suzaustin, thanks for coming out of lurkdom to post your review of the show.

Count me as another huge fan of ‘Is It Over’. It’s one of my favorite cuts from his album and I’d love it to be the next single. He performs that with so much passion.

  48. ross: Was there an Iowa show? Were there six shows originally? I don’t remember.

Yes, there were originally 6 shows with Keith. The Iowa State Fair show was August 13. (see MJ’s posting from March 8). Will they just come out and announce his tour already?! Come on!

Welcome suzaustin and thanks for the recap!!

  49. Thanks, guys, for the nice welcome. Glad to be out of lurkdom. Happy the videos are being watched. Was fun sneaking around getting them. Kris is truly amazing live. Wish he and Keith Urban would come to Texas…I’d be there.

TwigLA, IIO has been one of my favs since The Album 1st came out. Love the 3/4 beat, and the lyrics…”if I could crawl on my knees..” Great line. It would make a great 2nd single, but then I’m getting to like BWCU a lot too. Interesting to see which one it will be.

Ratna12…I so totally agree that we should be able to video. It was Six Flags! for corn sakes! Everyone takes pictures there. Didn’t see any official videoing going on.

Oh..mikeylin posted a link to the videos on KrisAllenOfficial..under her fan link. Cool-biz!

  50. Wow I go away for a few days & so I’ve a lot of videos of Kris to catch up on. Thanks everyone for these, just wonderful.
