  1. Great interview!

Hey, anybody else not get their PASS?! I got an email from Itunes today saying they cannot find a Pass listed in Itunes, and they are refunding my money. WHAT?!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Slezak gets the best interviews out of Kris. Loved hearing about the thought process behind the songs :)

  3. This was a fantastic interview! I was trying to read between the lines to see what Kris thinks the second single should be… Can’t Stay Away sounds like it’s a good bet. He seemed surprised that Slezak suggested Before We Come Undone, no?

  4. It’s crazy how M Slezak interviews are like always the best ones–so much more insight comes out about the songs, songwriting, production, performance.

Kris is a really smart guy, really mature.

And he gets sexier when he’s all laid back and comfortable like he is in this discussion.

  5. My money is on CAN’T STAY AWAY or BEFORE WE COME UNDONE, because I think Jive will like to go with somethig Kris had co-written.
What I love about the whole album is that all the songs are guitar driven with a few piano driven ones.
I particularly love the guitar riffs on CAN’T STAY AWAY. This is a really solid album and if Jive promotes it well, it will sell miliions because all the songs are favourites of different people. So many different sounds.

  6. Kris’ interviews with Slezak make me LOVE Kris as a person. He is cute, intelligent, and his self deprecating sense of humor makes me chuckle. “I’m an interesting guy. . . .no I’m not”. “I shouldn’t be here”.

I didn’t orginally buy his album, because my only complaint with Kris is that, while I enjoy his vibe it becomes redundant after a while. I have a similar problem with Daughtry as well. However, this interview got me excited about Kris and his album again so I’m off to go buy it. I guess that’s why they do these interviews huh?

  7. What a excellent interview! Great Work Slezak!
Kris is so comfortable. He was able to articulate his thoughts so well, and also show off his excellent snarky humour.
Ok when Kris said , “you’re so “outward” for a live concert, then when you’re writing a song, you have to go in, inward…” The way Michael was looking at him!!!

Also Kris, “I’m an interesting guy.” LOL!

What a great interview, such great insights. I liked how Kris talked about keeping up with his single on the charts. Also “I don’t care about it making the Top 10, it just has to be good music.”
    This guy is not real!

“He seemed surprised that Slezak suggested Before We Come Undone, no?”
Yes, mimi. But he was SHOCKED when Michael suggested “I Need to Know” as the 2nd single. “I Need to Know” is one of my favourites from his album but even in my most fan girly state I wouldn’t suggest this song as a potential single. (But this song would be right at home in some movie soundtrack)

Can’t Stay Away & Before We Come Undone are good contenders for 2nd Single. Now Kris has thrown in Alright With Me in the mix. Interesting…

I love how this guy is not about “drama”, he just keeps it real. And I love that about him.

  8. I’m loving “the album is finished” Kris – he’s so confident, and happy. Awesome interview.

  9. I love Before We Come Undone too!!!! It has replaced CSA for the 2nd single IMO.

Interesting…here are the most popular songs on Itunes today (in order of popularity):

    LLWD
    Heartless (!)
    CSA
    The Truth
    BWCU

  10. Kris: “Dang you, Script. What are you doing? You’re screwing me.

    *tee hee* How wonderful ;)

Also an excellent interview, Michael Slezak and Kris seem so natural and comfortable. Loved how they got into the writing processes, and just WOW @ I Need To Know, I do get the feeling he was lying down and singing the song. Nice.

Someone has to choreograph a dance to Alright With Me. RIGHT STAT NOW. For some reason I can picture an R&B diva covering that song. That’s probably my favorite song from the album.

For some reason, he reminds me of John Krasinski (Jim from The Office). Their attitude?

  11. Wow, what a difference a year makes. He’s so comfortable in front of the camera. And i adore how relaxed he is with Slezak. look at his body language, so open. toss up between who has the most chemistry: kradam, krim or k-sleazy?

  12. I love Slezak. He should follow Kris and Adam around and upload daily interviews. lol

  13. Hey, anybody else not get their PASS?! I got an email from Itunes today saying they cannot find a Pass listed in Itunes, and they are refunding my money. WHAT?!!!!!!!!!!!

Consider yourself blessed. The iTunes Pass version of the album I received lacks the cover art and most of the track names. WTF, iTunes! Still waiting to hear back from them, but it is an ugly, half-assed product they sold to people who shelled out $17 six frakkin’ months ago. (They did throw in the pdf liner notes. How generous of them!)

And I aven’t had a chance to listen to the interview here yet, but my favorite tracks off the album are “I Need To Know” and “Alright With Me.” I liked “The Truth” too.

  14. Yeah I don’t like how i-tunes did the i-tunes pass either. I want the name of all the tracks on my i-pod. And It was so hard how to figure out how to get it to download. I loved the interview so much. My favorite songs are BIB, AWM, and INTK. I think Kris came across really good in this interview.

  15. 1. I just bought Kris’s album at Target today. And so far, I’m liking it. On sale this week too.

    2. I love the screen cap that MJ has at the top. It’s a cross between babe Kris Allen and Alfred E. Newman.

  16. Kris is a really smart guy, really mature.

yes. Very articulate and quick witted. If he were a pinch more outgoing, he could be George Clooneyish.

  17. I’ve been chomping at the bit to watch this interview, but I’m waiting til I get home from work so I can give it my undivided attention…. 1 more hour!

Hey, anybody else not get their PASS?!

Last week before it was clear that the Pass included the bonus track, I bought the pre-order and got a refund for the unused portion of the Pass. I think, it cost me a couple extra bucks, because the refund was for $6 and change (meaning I spent about $10 of the Pass value + $10.99 for the pre-order).

In the end however, both the pass and the pre-order automatically downloaded to my computer. The tracks from the pass are just sitting there, because I haven’t needed to take the time to rename them or correct the artwork. But for those of you who only have the Pass, you can make those corrections right in iTunes…. annoying, but possible.

  18. Great interview. Michael always asks the most thoughtful, intelligent questions. He asks about everything a fan would want to know. Kris is such a laid back, cool guy, and so down to earth. I enjoyed hearing about the writing process. How cute that Michael was so sharply dressed? Mike, I feel you, baby, I would have done the same thing! Candles were a bit much, tho. ;)

  19. That was fun. (As usual), good job, Slezak!

I think the iTunes pass was a clusterf*ck of major proportions. I hope they never, ever do that to anybody else.

  20. wonderful interview–thoughtful, insightful, funny–good stuff from Kris and Slezak! As someone who loves “Alright With Me”, though, I can’t believe no one has asked Kris about that killer falsetto he hits?!!! It’s the best part of that song for me. I’d love to see Kris’ face when complimented or asked about it. If anyone hears Kris talk about it, let me know (and I think I need to go listen to it for the umpteenth time!)!! :-)

  21. I vote for Before We Come Undone for a single. I’ve loved that song since the first time I listened to the muffled Youtube from the Tailgate performance.

Kris is such a sweetheart. He’s also a great interview when the interviewer goes beyond the same old stupid Idol questions. I don’t know how any of them can stay (outwardly) patient through some of these interviews.

  22. Fantastic interview!

LLWD and AwM are perfect movie songs. I can already hear Alright With Me playing over movie credits, or playing as we see a car flying down a highway…I can hear LLWD playing over a point in a movie where a character is going through some turmoil, and a montage of scenes is going by on the screen.

  23. As I’ve said elsewhere on this board, AWM should definitely be the second single. But I’d be ok with BWCU, because that one’s an ass-kicker too.

CSA is the one song I won’t be uploading to the iPod. Don’t like it at all. Oh, and I’m going to swap out Heartless for his Idol version.

But yeah, he’s too cute for words. So’s Slezak.

I didn’t get the iPass, but had an issue with my Walmart-purchased CD (I wanted “Angels”): none of the track info downloaded for me. Don’t know why. No art either. :(

“Why didn’t anyone come to his show?”

  24. I LOVE this interview! I especially like the way they edited a snippet from each song they were talking about as they were talking about them. I have been listening to the CD pretty regularly but I appreciated the quick memory refreshers at the beginning of each song discussion.

  25. “Before We Come Undone” is definitely the biggest earworm for me, followed closely by “Let It Rain,” believe it or not. I’m kinda surprised by that.

  26. Great interview from Michael . Just like with Jim it seems like its 2 friends sitting down discussing things about life – only this time its going into more detail about the background behind these songs!!
I love how most interviews with Kris are mostly about his music & not “what’s happening in your life”? Keeping his relationship with Katy more or less private leads to intrigue but also I respect the fact that his personal life is going well so we can concentrate on his career !!

I’ve just received his album & after listening I still love BWCU , NTK &Truth!!

  27. This was such a great and in depth interview. Kris shows how much he understands about music and comes off as knowledgeable without being arrogant. I am so impressed with this album especially given the time constraints that Kris was under. I fully expect that his next album (whether with Jive or not) will be really great. I hope that, given the sales predictions, that he will be okay with Jive but in a way I wouldn’t mind if he was with a more independent label where he could have more artistic freedom. My appetite was just whetted with songs like “I Need To Know” and “Red Guitar”. It’s funny because the first time I listened to “Red Guitar”I was not impressed. Now it is probably my favorite track. It’s nice to have a Kris thread where there aren’t insults being thrown around. That thread about Adam and Kris on the Red Carpet was pretty brutal. I just want to stay here with you Kris fans and feel the love!

  28. I love Michael Slezak’s interviews no matter who it is. He has a way to make the person feel totally at ease and asks terrific questions. Who else could have pulled that “outward on tour” and “introspective when writing” quote from Kris? Good stuff!

  29. I just want to stay here with you Kris fans and feel the love!

    *group hug* :)

  30. I’m so proud of him, looking at where he started. I just hope Jive sees the amount of long term $$$$$$ floating around this kid and not what they will get today. He is young, yet very musicaly mature and I just love the way he puts true meaning into anything he says about music.
In a way I think Jive gets him, taking into consideration the way they allowed his two songs on the album. At least if not everyone, somebody in there gets him and for sees his bright future. Nothing is more advantagious in the music business than being able to write your own music.
Kris really knows what he’s about and where he’s heading. God bless him.

  31. No pass here yet either. Emails galore to i tunes! I wonder how many people have had this issue. Thank goodness that I preordered off Amazon.

  32. Very good interview. Slezak is good at asking interesting questions. Kris expresses very well the process of creating music and delivering it afterward; the inward / outward stuff.
He comes across as someone so unassuming and intelligent. He seems to me to be confortable with a lot of things that come across his life and that’s because he is so grounded.
Love the montage, how they inserted songs snippets, that was great!

  33. Wow, great interview. He seems so comfortable and the jacket, I likey. It was like he’d been doing interviews for years. Wonderful, just wonderful. I admire his honesty. Kris, you are very interesting!

I love BWCU, Alright with Me, and Let it Rain so much right now, I humming “Send me all your angels” today at work and “Let it Rain” in the grocery store.

I have the pass – I think Itunes owes Kris a banner at their expense for the mess they caused.

The first time I heard BWCU, was on utube at the tailgate party and I loved it. The crowd (not just those taking the video) loved it too. You could hear cheers and maybe it was just my ears (probably), but the crowd seemed louder for that song than the others. It’s a crowd pleaser and an earworm for sure.

Oladyrocklover, I agree about Red Guitar, I’m a convert too.

  34. Krezak FTW? Yes and no. I always enjoy Krim for the great lulz (although their last 6 part interview was also really informative) but Krezak always brings the insight to Kris stuff. So Krimzak FTW!!!

Interesting questions, interesting answers. As we know Kris’s personality shines when he knows the other person really well and is comfortable with them (Krim, Krezak, Kradam etc.). I would say the same happens with his collaborations. He probably didn’t have time to get to know D.Hodges, it was his first co-writing session, he was intimidated, so their song didn’t end up on the album. On the other hand it seems that he worked a lot with Lindy Robbins, became close (in the Krim interview he says she acted like a ‘mom’ to him) and co-wrote with her pretty good stuff: BWCU, CSA, INTK.

Thank god Bring it Back made the album. It’s one of my favorites (although I have many for different reasons) so I definitely want him to collaborate with Eg White again!!
I really liked what he said about the difference between performing and writing. He has said it again but here he elaborated a little more on that.
I don’t think that he will have any problem perfoming WAOMF live. He did a great job with it at the Dolphins tailgate. So this one won’t make him breathless, like LLWD.
For second single I would like either BWCU or CSA. It’s not about which is my favorite (as I said I have many) but I think it has to be catchy, radio-friendly and definitely co-written by Kris.

Last but not least I LOVE all his facial expressions. Everything it’s Written All Over His Face. That’s why his video-interviews are always better than the written or radio-interviews.

  35. It’s funny, too, I was just watching Extra and they showed Adam at the US party did an interview and there was no mention of Kris at all. If we didn’t know better we wouldn’t even know that Kris attended. Selfishly, I was like “But where is Kris?” but I know full well that Kris was probably glad that he escaped the media scrutiny and would much rather focus on what’s important-the music. This is ,of course, a preview of the AMA’s where he will again be a nonentity. Oh well, the travails of being a Kris fan. He’s just lucky that he has all of us to fret about him since it seems like that’s the last thing that he worries about.

  36. Good stuff. I love that Kris shows how you can be candid without going overboard. I wish he had more self esteem because I do think can be insightful and not realize it. People have already brought up the outward/ inward thing. He’s a better interview than he gives himself credit. I agree that Slezak was a good part of it. He does interview well.

    Kudos to them both!

  37. He’s just lucky that he has all of us to fret about him since it seems like that’s the last thing that he worries about.

yes for that. I think he has the right attitude in considering all this kind of stuff like bonuses, the most important thing being making good music and performing it

  38. re the iTunes mess, it keeps claiming ive already downloaded the album. grrrrr.

  39. I thought this was a fantastic interview. The thing I love about Kris is that his interviews don’t feel like interviews. It’s not:

    Interviewer: Question A?
    Kris: Answer A.

It’s like having a conversation with someone, and I love that Kris is candid, but not verging on TMI. I like that he pokes fun at himself and also shows his insecurities (like when he was saying he was intimidated about collaborating with a Grammy-winner like Dave Hodges), but also his strengths (he believes that his ability to convey emotion in a song is one of his stronger suits, and it is).

I love that Michael went there and pitched “Before We Come Undone”. I think that Kris really loves hearing people rave about his music (who wouldn’t?) and I remember when Jim Cantiello said he loved “Bring It Back”, Kris looked really pleased and had this silly grin on his face, like he had just been told his entry in the science fair was the best. Kris just has the coolest sense of humor, and he doesn’t have to be loud or obnoxious or comedic for it to come across. He’s excellent at the deadpan, and I love when he was like “The Fray, you know, their music is good…” LOL :D

I also love that Kris said that he doesn’t care if the album goes top 10 or whatever, he is content knowing that he put out good music. That, to me, is the mark of someone who really takes music seriously and has a passion for it. This explains why he doesn’t really care about being seen on magazine covers or by paparazzi, etc. He just genuinely cares about being an artist. Awesome interview!

  40. re the iTunes mess, it keeps claiming ive already downloaded the album. grrrrr.

geez, that is so annoying. Can’t they look at your itunes library and see it’s not there?

  41. Ahhhh… finally home and able to watch the interview… I hooked up the laptop to the good speakers so I could revel in his voice…and, wow did he look good (the outfit, the confidence, the smile)… Ok, enough shallow.

Such a great interview. I grinned like an idiot throughout (another reason I wanted to watch from home and not work- besides that whole “supposed to be working” thing.) I don’t what I can say that hasn’t been said above. This is the Kris that I want everyone to see – especially those that think of him as boring and inarticulate. There’s no doubt that he is low key. But his charm, intelligence, and wit really shine through in these more in-depth interviews.

re the iTunes mess, it keeps claiming ive already downloaded the album. grrrrr.

Just click on REPORT A PROBLEM next to your iTunes pass under your account purchased history and tell them about it. They usually reply pretty promptly.

  43. A seven part Kris interview with Slezak!! This week just keeps getting better! I still haven’t watched the Cantiello interview from yesterday. I really need to catch up.

BTW, LLWD has gotten spun twice already tonight on Hot 99.5 in Washington, D.C. These are the first spins on the station since they officially added the song on Tuesday.

I did not see the new HAC Rate The Music numbers in the headlines thread, but LLWD had another really strong week. It had the fourth highest ranking overall out of the 30 songs on the chart. (Behind GRO, Kings of Leon and Kelly.)

But more importantly – it was the HIGHEST ranking song for women between the ages of 25-34, women between 35-44 and women overall.

  44. thanks BCU79 for the info. Women love Kris :)
on youtube, i’ve noticed that beside women, he was popular with teen guys!

  45. @BCU79: Great news! Thank you for sharing! Yeah, I think it’s great that LLWD is slowly flying up the charts. It jumped up 20 spots on the Billboard chart, from 92 to 70! So proud of Kris! I hope it keeps going up!

  46. I did not see the new HAC Rate The Music numbers in the headlines thread, but LLWD had another really strong week. It had the fourth highest ranking overall out of the 30 songs on the chart. (Behind GRO, Kings of Leon and Kelly.)

Great!!! I also noticed a new add today – a HAC station here in Northern CA. YAY! I hope this is the start of more adds on West Coast in the coming weeks.

    http://addboard.mediabase.com/AddDetails.asp?sngcde=ALLELLWD

  47. Thanks for the chart info, BCU79!

As for the PASS (the one I bought but never got!), I don’t really care that I didn’t get it. I bought the CD at Wal-Mart (love the Kris/Chris song!), and I can buy the album on Itunes, but my point is: how many other people had their pass screwed up too? The ultimate question is:

    Did this affect Kris’s sales?!!!

  48. Hmm, KA official says Ellen on 11/23 and Bonnie Hunt on 11/24.

Oh well, he’ll have two appearances on Tues then.

  49. I loved this interview. I really hope Alright With Me is the next single. It’s so upbeat and fun, I think it could be the next “I’m Yours by Jason Mraz”, a song that charts for a year. It’s a little quirky but so irresistable.

Kris is so cute in this interview. When he talks about the Script songs “Dang you Script” so funny.

I bought Kris’ album form Walmart today, I wanted the bonus track. I get in car and went to play it . It wasn’t on the cd. Any other Canadians encjounter this? Is the bonus track on only in the US Walmarts? I feel so ripped off.

  50. WTF is Chris Sligh saying about Kris’ songs on his album. He’ s like the album is not Kris. He bashed Red Guitar the most. May be he’s scared Kris is a better writer than him.
Red Guitar is one of the raved about songs on the album even by the worst critics.
Maybe he thought he will be strumming acoustic guitar on the songs like he did on the show.

  51. @sunny2: That is very odd! You might want to go back to Wal-Mart and check to see if the other CDs are the same way. Usually it will say in the back of the CD that there is a 14th track “Send Me All Your Angels”.

@Diane: the iTunes pass not DOWNLOADING probably does not affect sales. People bought the pass already, that’s what counts. I think that maybe Apple just wasn’t prepared for the whole iTunes pass thing. I didn’t have problems with it, and mine actually downloaded 11pm Pacific time right when I logged on. So I would just suggest emailing iTunes via the REPORT A PROBLEM button on your purchase history.

  52. Just looking at your mediabase link there happygolucky and noticed that there was also a Canadian add… holy crap.. I almost fell over. (what’s the deal Canada?) I hope that also starts a Canadian trend. I haven’t heard LLWD played in Ontario yet either. Maybe the fact that it’s still inching upwards will help it out all over. *knocks on wood*

The Slezak interview was as always fantastic. It’s nice to actually hear about the writing process. I loved when they discussed the album cover too, sometimes a pretty theatre is just a pretty theatre. Kris: “Why did no one come to his show?” lmao

I had itunes pass issues – not that it didn’t download – but that it downloaded with the incorrect artwork, and unlabeled – which is pretty poor planning for something they knew was going on sale on the 17th.

I did hear that the Chris/Kris song was only US, I think someone mentioned that Walmart Canada didn’t get bonus songs last year so I didn’t even go there.

I want Alright With Me too. :)

  53. Starr, they’re refunding my money, so I don’t know. If he got credit for it, he’s lost it now. Hopefully me and the other person posting here are the only ones! I’ve been emailing them since midnight of the album drop. It takes forever for them to respond. Crazy thing is: I don’t want a refund. I was trying to help Kris!! ha…just my luck.

sunny2, that would definitely be frustrating!! I do love that song. Maybe you can download it since you tried to buy it!

  54. Alright With Me just never gets old to me. I’ve played it over and over! It would be the perfect single. Or one of them, anyhow. BWCU is a great tune but there’s just no way I can see it going to the top of the charts. It don’t picture it standing out, on the radio.

To whoever said it, I thought the same thing about AWM being another “I’m Yours.” Like the Mraz tune, it makes me feel good.

  55. AwM reminds me too much of Jason’ new single. I loved Jason on Idol, but I was disappointed in his single. But a lot of people like AwM, so who knows?!

  56. AwM reminds me too much of Jason’ new single. I loved Jason on Idol, but I was disappointed in his single. But a lot of people like AwM, so who knows?!

I read another comment about this somewhere, the person said the same thing. Other than they’re both cute love songs, I don’t see the similarity. The JC song is a totally different tempo, a medium tempo, and it sounds like the early 70’s. AWM is a pretty fast song and melodically it doesn’t sound at all like the Castro song (to me).

  57. @Diane: THat’s weird. They’re refunding your money? Gah. iTunes is being annoying.

The iTunes pass downloaded the wrong artwork too. I think Kris was surprised to learn this when he did that cosmo interview yesterday. THe interviewer showed him the pass on her iTunes and he was like “That’s the cover for No Boundaries” and none of the tracks were labelled on mine as well, I had to do them manually. Definitely poor planning. I think that Kris was the first artist with this iTunes pass and they were testing it out this season. It’s too bad he had to be the guinea pig to see how well this idea was. I know Weezer also has an iTunes pass for their record, so I hope they know they’re getting screwed LOL

I love “Alright With Me”! I think if they plan it right and release it during the summer, it could definitely take off and be the hit song of that summer. It’s a feelgood, upbeat song that, as Kris said, you just can’t help but bop your head to. So far a lot of people outside of the Idol bubble dig the song, so I think this has single potential. I still think they should go for “Before We Come Undone” as the next single, since it too is one of the songs that could appeal to people outside of the Idol bubble.

  58. Great interview as always from Slezak. Kris had me grinning away again. I loved the discussion of the various tracks as mentioned here by others. Looking forward to the extra clips on Realite!

AWM doesn’t remind me of Jason’s single. They’re both fairly lighthearted, but to me this is a better song both musically and lyrically. Having said that, I’m not convinced it should be the next single. But maybe. I do think it would be a great single at some point.

It’s so amazing to me how everyone has different faves. I think this just speaks to the fact that, imo, there isn’t a bad track on the album. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!

  59. @wand3rful
the iTunes mess, it keeps claiming ive already downloaded the
    album. grrrrr.

Same here. I never got my pass either. I was so excited last night because I was watching it with my own eyes that about 8 titles were downloading. I’ve waited and looked and can’t find them anywhere.

I E-mailed them and they responded that I have to be patient while they are trying to resolve the problem. What ??
I have all the videos just fine. Why is the album so different ?

I was so mad, I went ahead and bought my second CD from Wal-Mart.
    :)

  60. I first love BeforeWCU after hearing it from the tailgate thing. Then I heard Let It Rain from the Vineyard, then that one replaced BWCU.
After I heard the album stream, The Truth came up on top. And then I heard AlrightWM, and I love that one.
But, now I think my ultimate favorite is Red Guitar. That one is soooo pretty. The refrain , WOW.

It’s is awesome that I can just leave a CD in my car and not punching a skip button.
For a long time I did not listen to Lifetime, because I was afraid after reading that the song is on the bottom list of most people.
Finally I listen to Lifetime, and I like it a lot. Maybe too many of the word “Lifetime” in the song, but…still.

Anyway, the whole album is awesome. Proud of you Kris.

  61. @oladyrocklover

    Let me see:
24 year old goodlooking singer with heavenly voice who can play guitar, piano and others. Can sing with the band and / or play & sing in acoustic setting. Can write his own songs and an all around good guy.

If I were JIVE, I’ll keep Kris tightly for now, no matter what the first week sale will be. That guy has GREAT potential.

I honestly think Jive will be holding on to Kris. They don’t really have anyone like him on their label. Looking on their roster, they have a ton of pop and R&B artists but not a whole lot who can appeal to pop-rock/non-Top 40 listeners. I think Kris is their ticket to reaching out to the Fray/John Mayer listeners.

I also think Jive has been taking advantage of Kris being naturally good-looking. They haven’t tried to dress him up in such a way that his boy-next-door cuteness is diminished, but at the same time they’ve definitely made an effort to make him look hot (see: Michael Slezak interview above. LOVE that jacket). I thought it was funny when Kris was talking to Slezak about his cover and Kris was like, “I’m really hard on myself and when I saw the picture, I was like, ‘Why do I look like that?'” and I saw Slezak’s reaction to that and it was just like, “Boy, you are fine and you better believe it” LOLOLOL

I’m very impressed with the way Jive has been handling Kris. They’ve really catered to his needs, and I have to say I am optimistic about where he is headed. I think album number two will be in the works, regardless of whether he meets sales goals or not (which I think he will).

  63. “AwM – I can’t believe no one has asked Kris about that killer falsetto he hits?!!! It’s the best part of that song for me.”
IKR! Three stand out fasettos – CSA, IIO & AwM – sounds amazing!

Like Michael, I didn’t like the ‘Alright with Me’ snippet . I’m not a big fan of trumpets type intruments. But after listening to the whole song … TBH, I was still not crazy about… Kept coming here, talking to my fellow benches, who made me see the light!! Now I simply LOVE it!
I keep bobing my head to it, hopping around, and like Kris said, It makes you smile! I keep waiting for “I’m knocking on your door” part. I start singing along as loud as I can!! Then I just shutup & marvel, when he hits that sexy falsetto

If I were JIVE, I’ll keep Kris tightly for now, no matter what the first week sale will be. That guy has GREAT potential.
    ~ Amen ~

Kris, never change! I love your dry, something silly, sometimes snarky, but mostly self depricating sense of humour. Your voice (speaking & singing), ur smile and your face never fails to put a smile on my face (also make me sigh!)

  64. OMG did you guys read that EW article “Stupid Questions with Kris Allen”?

Slezak: “What do you blame on the alcohol?”
Kris : “You know what I blame on the alcohol? Lindsay Lohan. Thanks. Thanks, alcohol. I have to hear about her all the time on TMZ now.”

OMG KRIS IS FULL OF WIN.

  65. He is so funny. Kris’s humor make him such a great interview once he gets comfortable with the interviewer. Kris and Michael and Kris and Jim interviews are made of win.

  66. Just wanted to drop by and say how much I love Kris’ album. I’m glad I decided to get it!

Specially Let It Rain, I haven’t been able to stop listening to it, I can see it becoming one of my top played tracks on Last.fm in the near future.

I can now call myself proudly a Kris Allen listener :).

  67. 39 interviews on Monday! Good Lord, know wonder he looked tired. But more importantly, I think I’ve only seen/heard about 15 or 20 of them… need to find the rest!

  68. Thanks Starr!
(Tracks on loop today, BWCU, CSA, WAOMY, BRB, RG, IIO, AWM, INTK)
Kris Allen, you’re lovely, inside & out. And so fking funny!

  69. How can Kris be so darn goodlooking and so darn hamble at the same time. I just loved this interview so much.

  70. Thanks for posting the Silly Questions article. So funny. ” Mudslide, what rhymes with mudslide…Bonnie and Clyde”

    Cuteness overload.

  71. ‘AwM ‘“ I can’t believe no one has asked Kris about that killer falsetto he hits?!!! It’s the best part of that song for me.’

seeker, yes, i just LOVE when he sings this high pitch PLEEEEEEAASE ..

  72. Thanks for posting the Silly Questions article. So funny. ‘ Mudslide, what rhymes with mudslide’ ¦Bonnie and Clyde’

he was again going the gangsta route… lol

  73. I forgot to mention that I am sooo glad Bring it Back made the album. That track contains his best vocal, imo. There’s an intimacy about it that is just, I don’t know, devastating. Heart. Owie.

  74. Phenomenal interview. He is more articulate when it comes to talking about music. Goes to show that that is truly what he is all about: Music, making music and performing music.

  75. @alxsavage

    near future.

Thank you ! Hopefully more and more people will take the plunge and
give his album a try. He needs different songs from this album heard.
I can’t believe how much I love Red Guitar now. And it’s Kris’ own song.

  76. Anybody still in this thread? If so, where is the Cosmo interview referred to a few pages back? Also, something to make us feel a little better on the 1st week sales. Kris is currently predicted to be #9 on HDD, which is where Jordin debuted as well. I’m embarrassed by how much the doom and gloom about his album sales has affected my mood in the past few days :(.

  77. mimi don’t let the numbers get you down. Kris is a slow burner. He’ll keep plugging away and by next year you’ll see he’ll have a platinum record. Slow and steady wins the race.

  78. “I forgot to mention that I am sooo glad Bring it Back made the album. That track contains his best vocal, imo. There’s an intimacy about it that is just, I don’t know, devastating. Heart. Owie.”

Auntieaimee, IKR!! Can you even imagine this album without this heartbreaking song. At first, I thought it had a ‘Fray’ feel, as time when by it turned into ‘Coldplay’ (think, ‘Trouble’) but now, I just hear Kris Allen, and his achingly beautiful vocals. Gah! The “plead” in his voice, “Bring it back, Bring it back. Think before you leave”.
This song blends in so well with the entire album but yet it’s such a stand alone song somehow.
The music itself is so beautiful, there are hardly any words, yet it conveys so much! I’m so glad this song made it.

Love this part, just the way he sings it!

“Don’t worry now, seasons will change.
Forgive my mouth, for not letting you
    walk away.”

And YES for more Eg White & Kris Allen Collabs!DWSFM!
On a lighter note “end up cuddling in a cave somewhere”. This will never not be funny. I keep thinking about this and just snort out loud!!
Kris Allen, you’re one SLY SOB!

Also, I know Jim & Michael like to fool around with Kris, make silly jokes, have a crush on him, etc but they really do respect him as an artist and genuinely appreciate his music, and I love them for that!

  79. Slezak: ‘What do you blame on the alcohol?’
Kris : ‘You know what I blame on the alcohol? Lindsay Lohan. Thanks. Thanks, alcohol. I have to hear about her all the time on TMZ now.’

Not to be a debbie downer, but didn’t Samantha Ronson just plug Kris’ album on twitter and isn’t she a girlfriend of Lindsey? I’d hate for this to backfire on him from someone who has lots of followers. Maybe not so funny afterall?

Listening to Bring it Back…love this song! He should work with Eg White again. Definitely.

  80. OMG, hoosiermama, I thought the same thing!! Maybe he doesn’t know Ronson’s been pimpin his Single & Album!

  81. ACK!! For once, maybe then, Seeker, Kris shouldn’t be so open!! If you and I thought of that, then there are others. Oh Nooos! Quick damage control. Stat!

  82. Wait maybe Lilo and Ronson are on the outs again? I thought they were so hopefully it’s OK? Will listen to the radio interview, wish it was Cosmo mag though– they would probably have had a nice pic :).

  83. But I don’t think it will have that much of an effect. It was a joke! And if you know anything of Kris Allen, you’d know he means no harm.
    (Edit, you’re screwing me!)

  84. Are Samantha and Lindsay still dating? I know Sam was trying to let LiLo go for a while, but I don’t keep up with the hot mess that is Ms. Lohan. But I thought it was just down to Lindsay not knowing when to move on.

I wouldn’t worry about too much. Kris didn’t call Lindsay a crack s***. That comment was tame compared to what I’ve heard others say about her.

  85. It was a funny comment though, props to Kris! He is so flippin’ cute. Doesn’t surprise me that he doesn’t know who Levi Johnston is…

  86. Yeah, I don’t get the impression that Sam’s the kind who’d take offence to something like this or take it personally. And are they even together now, Lohan & her!?

  87. “Doesn’t surprise me that he doesn’t know who Levi Johnston is’ ¦”
LOL! But come on, this Sh*t was all over. Sarah Palin! Seriously!

  88. I always love Slezak’s interviews and reviews … even if I don’t always agree with him.

This was all sorts of win. Real questions with real answers from Kris. Tons of sly humor and straight out honesty. I can’t pull out any single quote or moment because there was just so much there that I loved.

Thanks for the link to the EW Stupid Questions spread. Very funny! As far as the Lindsay Lohan comment, I thought he was more making an observation on what gets featured on TMZ. Drunk celebs or people acting badly or caught in embarrassing situations seems to be their stock in trade.

On other topics here, that stinks about the pass for a lot of people. I really wonder how those are being counted or not counted. Kris’ projected numbers from first day sales seemed way off for me. I’m also ticked that most of my download didn’t include song titles.

  89. The Friday HDD sales projection numbers were just posted in headlines…Kris’ didn’t change. Still 85K-90K. Bummer. It’s a good album, people–buy it!

I’m with you on that, auntieaimee! It’s one of my favorite cuts on the album. It makes my heart ache every time I hear it. He puts so much emotion and himself in when he sings. He just lays his soul out there for all to see.

I have to say, a LOT of the songs on this album sound like they need to be in a movie or TV drama. I can also see a lot being used on SYTYCD and DWTS.

  91. Ratna12:

    Let me see:
24 year old goodlooking singer with heavenly voice who can play guitar, piano and others. Can sing with the band and / or play & sing in acoustic setting. Can write his own songs and an all around good guy.

So well said!! I’m the kind of person that always wants to solve things by going to the source and last night I was thinking how can I convince Jive of the true gem they have on their hands (LOL, as if I could). However, hopefully they will realize this! Oh that voice! So smooth and beautiful to listen to, and then when we add everything else on top of that, there is no doubt they have a winner!

Even his biggest detractors (LA Times review) can’t deny the awesomeness of some of the songs on this album. I believe they mentioned BWCU, CSA and AWM, irrc. All co-written by Kris!

  92. I have to say, a LOT of the songs on this album sound like they need to be in a movie or TV drama.

TwigLA, I agree! Let’s hope JIVE sends copies to all movie and tv studio execs! Keeping fingers crossed for Kris. If his cd sales don’t do it, then maybe exposure in other outlets will do it for him (tv/movie would pay to use the song–yes? or would that work like the radio payola stuff? Anybody know?).

  93. ilovekrisallen39:

How can Kris be so darn goodlooking and so darn hamble at the same time. I just loved this interview so much.

LOL ilka39, perhaps you have coined a new phrase for Kris! He’s a humble ham = hamble. I know it was a typo, but made me chuckle. ;)

  94. The Friday HDD sales projection numbers were just posted in headlines’ ¦Kris’ didn’t change. Still 85K-90K. Bummer. It’s a good album, people’“buy it!

OK, lurkers from Arkansas mobilise and have everyone buy the album. You’ve been effective before, Kris needs you.

  95. LoveDaRocker
Kris’ next album should be called The Hamble!

I’m still bummed the first one wasn’t called K-Sizzle. ;)

  96. I don’t think Sam Ronson and LiLO are dating anymore. Even if they were, I doubt Ronson keeps up with everything related to Kris. I thought that article was hilarious.

And you know, the thing I noticed with these interviews is that it’s definitely really easy to talk to Kris about music because he’s so into it. When he talks about what went into the music, he goes into what he likes like chord structure, talks about how he writes the melody first and starts with gibberish…these are all really interesting things that I never knew about the songwriting process, since I’ve never followed an artist this closely before. I’m glad that Slezak and Jim, while having fun interviews with Kris, get to the down and dirty and get him to spill the beans on stuff other interviewers aren’t asking.

Also, I just wanted to say there are a number of ways for Kris fans to help get the word out on his music. If you make mix CDs for friends, throw in a couple of Kris songs in there; that way it’s not too in-your-face as buying them his record, but at the same time you’re introducing his music to people who might not be following him. Also, if you’re good at making videos, you can make videos of your fave TV shows (like Grey’s Anatomy, for instance) and use Kris’s songs as background. A lot of people go on Youtube to look at clips from their favorite shows and if a song catches their attention they will buy it or download it or whatever. It’s good promo. But more importantly, keep requesting! The more spins Kris gets, the more radio will be more comfortable in getting his music out there. Keep it up, guys!
