Following last night’s performance of The Color Purple on Broadway, Jennifer Hudson and the cast stayed on stage to pay tribute to the iconic and legendary Prince, who died on Thursday at 57. Jennifer Hudson, who had performed with the iconic musician onstage, and considers him a friend, led a performance of “Purple Rain” that also featured vocals by Cynthia Ervio.
The American Idol season 3 alum mentioned Prince invited her and the cast to an event in New York City recently. “We had the honor to be in his presence one last time,” said Jennifer to the crowd. “We got to have that moment. Tonight, if you guys don’t mind, we’d like you all to join us in honoring Prince.”
