Could Randy Jackson be stepping up his game?
Sources tell E Online that Randy has been more critical than new judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez on the recent Idol callbacks in Jersey City and Milwaukee:
“It’s been like Randy has stepped up his game and is being more blunt and bottom line, ” an Idol insider says. “He’s definitely not wishy-washy. He’s, like, rebranded himself a little.”
Even Ryan Seacrest has noticed his old pal’s change of tune.
“He’s the one to shut it down the most, ” the Idol host, who’s presided over auditions in Milwaukee and East Rutherford, N.J., so far, said this morning on his KIIS-FM show.
Is Randy really stepping it up? Or is his publicist working over time to change his image? Or has the judges’ table turned into one big wishy-washy love fest? No way to really know until we see for ourselves when Idol Season 10 begins in January 2011.
The thing about Randy–he’s got the experience and the smarts to be a good judge. He just got lazy over the years, resting on his laurels and relying on his dumb catch phrases instead of judging in any sort of meaningful way. Maybe new blood on the judging panel has invigorated him–or scared him. Paula stepped up her game after Kara DioGuardi arrived on the scene. Maybe Randy will be similarly challenged.
What do you think?
