Idol Sales News – Week Ending 11/25/12

Updated with top 10 album and song numbers (Albums: 3. 1d, 4. Phil Songs: 6. Phil)

HDD is predicting that the Phil Phillips will open in the top 3 during Black Friday Week while Kelly’s Greatest Hits album will debut in 11th. Phil Phillip is also in a race to be the top digital song for the week with his coronation song “Home”.

Meanwhile, the big news this week is Adele. Her album “21” sold diamond this week with 10M units sold in the US. This is a fairly rare achievement to say the least. Coincidentally, “21” is the 21st album to sell 10M in Soundscan history (which started in 1991 – or coincidentally, 21 years ago). Even more remarkable, given the downturn in album sales during the past 5+ years, “21” is the second fastest album to reach Diamond (only the Backstreet Boys were faster with their “Millenium” back in 2000) taking 43 weeks.

“21” has spent 24 non-consecutive weeks at the top of the BB200 album chart (topping that chart more times than any other album in SS history) and 80 weeks in the top 10. Billboard goes onto note that two other albums reached diamond status this year: Linkin’s Park “Hybrid Theory” (released in 2000) and Usher’s “Confession” (released in 2004). There are lots of other fun facts in the Billboard Article.

Carrie Underwood should have crossed the 1 million mark in sales based on HDD estimates.

ETACarrie Underwood’s Blown Away  has officially crossed the 1 million mark, rising 13 spots to #12. Her sales were up 349% this week. Kelly Clarkson’s Greatest Hits Chapter One debuts at #11 with 74K sales. Additional numbers from MTV.com
