  1. Those are good album sales for Fantasia. Brian had said that Mandisa had that increase because some women conferences are beginning again. Maybe she is participating in those conferences performing her music, exposing it to more people? I believe those conferences are Christian women conferences.

  2. Danny’s daily update from mediabase:

Wow…Adam sure has been consistent! I’m impressed his album has stayed in the BB200 for this long. He’s got to be going on 40 weeks soon.

  4. Congrats to Fantasia for a terific debut week of sales. Carrie, Daughtry and Adam all staying in the top 100 of the of BB200 is great, especially as long as their albums have been out.

  5. Congrats to Fantasia on a strong opening week. Nice to see Carrie, Adam and Chris D. remain in the Top 100 of the BB chart.

I will repeat my wish that Kris’s sales were available — judging JUST based on iTunes, his singles sales have definitely increased, and I wouldn’t be surprised if his album sales increased as well, if only slightly. But unless Brian M is able to work his magic, we won’t know for sure.

  6. So apparently Katy Perry got 196K in sales her first week with 2 huge singles on the charts. Man, I sure would have thought her sales would be huge. And people were disappointed in Adam’s 198K his first week? Kind of puts things in perspective re the music industry right now. I am happy for Fantasia and very happy that Adam is still in the Top 100 BB after all this time. I really think his tour and the resultant buzz about it’s success has helped a lot. Also great update for IIHY again from DimWitty at Pulse:

  8. Adam keeps getting nice spin increases on POP but unfortunatly everyone keeps passing him….*shakes fist* lol

It’s like that scene in Animal House when the band gets stuck marching into a corner. Somone has to turn around.

There are are songs dropping, but will they drop fast enough to get him back at Top 20, we’ll see! I think he can close the week at 20 on Top and HAC. Maybe.

  9. Adam keeps getting nice spin increases on POP but unfortunatly everyone keeps passing him.

That should change soon. Nobody is nipping at his heels now, and there are some above him who are falling fast. Drake (#19) especially is dropping like a rock.

IIHY had a very nice update today.

The chart will balance back out in a week or so, and IIHY will be back in the Top 20 — just a top-heavy chart right now. The rank really isn’t as important as the AI and spin increases — and IIHY is still heading up. Still think it will make the Top 15 on Pop.

  11. I am happy for Fantasia and very happy that Adam is still in the Top 100 BB after all this time. I really think his tour and the resultant buzz about it’s success has helped a lot.

I think it’s mostly the radio presence sustaining the sales. Touring on your own or opening for other acts mostly help solidifying and expanding your touring fanbase more than expanding the overall fanbase, at least when it comes to the sales, opening has much less effect than people would like to believe. Judging from the charts, having a radio hit have a much bigger and long-lasting effect on sales than anything could. but of course, that’s why radio market is so competitive, getting a radio hit is much more difficult than say, finding an opening slot on a tour.

  12. Looking at the sales of DEBUT albums lately I have to agree that money is in the touring.
Unless you are Eminem or Susan Boyle… :-)

  13. well since its a numbers thread, may as well post all the ones on pop:

    20 22 ADAM LAMBERT If I Had You 3657 3386 271 19.416

    52 48 DAVID ARCHULETA Something ‘Bout Love 350 303 47 0.842

or well at least 1-50, might not get the numbers for idols in the 51-below range today from pulse.

  14. I think it’s mostly the radio presence sustaining the sales.

Yeah, I agree. Usually radio drives sustained sales IMO, touring is like its own little world generating its own separate money.

So apparently Katy Perry got 196K in sales her first week with 2 huge singles on the charts. Man, I sure would have thought her sales would be huge.

I think it is low, but it doesn’t really matter because she sells the shit out of some singles. She’s still bringing in the cash. I think she’s just a singles type artist.

Are the remixes in the total for IIHY or the radio edit on the EP?

  17. Touring on your own or opening for other acts mostly help solidifying and expanding your touring fanbase more than expanding the overall fanbase, at least when it comes to the sales, opening has much less effect than people would like to believe.

Adam isn’t opening for anyone, he’s headlining his own tour. Maybe I read your comment wrong? It has to help some that Adam’s tour is generating buzz but I agree that it’s hard to beat the advantages of having a song on the radio. I would guess that 80-90% of Glam Nation tour attendees have the CD (and mp3s of the live stuff, and bootleg copy of Take One…) it’s the just lovers and friends we bring with us that don’t have it yet LOL.

Sidebar, I was in my favorite tiny, local sushi place the other night and they played Adam twice in just over half an hour (WWFM & IIHY) GO baby!!

  18. Can’t help worrying about Adam dropping on Top 40, even though I know it’s the adds and spins that matter.

Watching the charts has been an eye-opener. New songs by Katy P., Taylor S. and Bieber just sprint up the charts and leave everyone in the dust. A lot of good songs getting lost in the process. I hope Q3 is right about everything balancing out by Labour Day.

  19. IIHY is probably peaking now. I wonder whether they’ll release another single, at least like Kelly’s last single with very little promo, just let it sink or float on its own.

  20. Yay! WWFM hits another milestone! Talk about a song having legs! IIHY will be gold at least in a few weeks. What the h*** is going on with Kris? I hope Jive is preparing another single for Kris now, while he is still on tour. There are still songs on his album that could do well on Pop. I never even hear LLWD anymore in Tampa and they seem to like Kris. Although I have yet to hear IIHY even though my daughter says she hears it all the time but she does a lot of commuting.

  21. Great update numbers for Adam for IIHY. It’s good to see his album, along with Carrie and Daughtry’s still in the BB 200.

Also, fantastic sales for Fantasia! Nice.

  22. IIHY is probably peaking now. I wonder whether they’ll release another single, at least like Kelly’s last single with very little promo, just let it sink or float on its own.

IIHY continues to get great updates and adds plus it’s AI is still increasing. I think it has a way to go yet before it starts to peak. Doesn’t a song have to be decreasing to say it is peaking? It is barely getting started in some markets it seems. I really think they will release another single and I think it will be soon. End of Sept/early Oct. No facts LOL, just a feeling. Probably SW but I am hoping for SFW. I think SFW is good for fall sports seasons, haha!

  23. WWFM hits the 1.5M milestone? That deserves a shout out–congrats Adam!

  24. Why say its peaking when it is still getting great positive updates and new stations are being added and spinning? If he were getting negative updates for a couple of days in a row, I could understand it. Philly Q102 seems to have put IIHY in power rotation yesterday, so YAY!!!

The remixes of iihy aren’t included in Brian’s sales figure. Soundscan doesn’t consolidate the numbers for different versions and Soundscan is what Brian uses. When Brian has consolidated the numbers on his own, as he recently did for The Truth, he makes note of it by labeling it “all versions”.

Let me also say YAYAYAYAY!!!!!! For Whataya Want From Me for passing the 1.5 million mark!!!!!

  25. The next few days imo are critical for TT and I hope that it will start getting good updates again before more songs will pass it.
I hope that Jive chose already the third single and will release it once it will be clear that TT has peaked. There are songs on the album that can be hits- both on pop and HAC, so hopefully Jive will make the right decision with the next single and will actually release it in time and with a video being filmed early.

aa618892- LLWD is still getting recurrent airplay and just because you don’t hear it, it doesn’t mean it is not getting played at all.

Great for WWFM passing 1.5m and I’m happy for all the idols that are doing well.

  26. Congrats to Adam for having pass 1.5M in sales for WWFM – what an accomplishment, you go BB! :) I will be happy if IIHY will be just as successful and would be estatic if it goes further! :)

  27. LLWD is still getting recurrent airplay and just because you don’t hear it, it doesn’t mean it is not getting played at all.

I am happy that Kris has a radio presence I just wish it were with his current song more. I think right now would be a great time to release another Pop friendly song that would even help TT.

My thoughts exactly. And Adam’s album hit at a much more congested time as far as releases. I have a much clearer understanding of the industry because katy has been everywhere. But I do think her album has a lot of legs though. Peacock is a great song and there are couple of others too. Makes what eminem did all the more amazing.

Adam’s album hit at a much more congested time as far as releases.

There is no better time slot to release an album than Thanksgiving week if you want to open with the biggest possible first week sales.

  30. But I do think her album has a lot of legs though. Peacock is a great song and there are couple of others too. Makes what eminem did all the more amazing.

Yes, I think the album will continue to sell well. They will probably squeeze another two single out it after Peacock.

  31. Looking at what Cowboy Casanova sold, I think we can guesstimate sales for TT at 5,000-6,000, given the two songs ranks on iTunes most of the past week

  32. EW has a good article on Katy’s sales

    http://music-mix.ew.com/2010/09/01/katy-perry-album-sales/#more-20388

That’s an interesting article. I don’t think I agree with the idea that her low album sales are the result of overexposure, but I do think she is perceived as a manufacturer of disposable (if fun and catchy) pop songs, not so much a “serious artist” with something to say. That always makes it harder to get people to buy albums IMO, until you get to maybe the 3rd or 4th smash hit.

But like I said, she sells a lot of singles (and gets a lot of endorsements) so I’m sure she’ll be fine in the long run.

  33. Yeah, I’m not sure that releasing singles every week really worked out for her. I do think there are a few album tracks that are better than the singles, but I tend to like those kinds of tracks anyway. I’m more of an album buyer.

She’ll probably sell steadily though like kesha and eventually reach platinum.

  34. Congrats to Adam for WWFM passing 1.5 million in sales

Not too worried about IIHY on the Pop chart. There were some songs with huge bullets that passed it, but there should be a coupkle of songs going recurrent this week as well, so IIHY should be back in the Top 20 for the published chart. It is also gaining in spins and AI, so it definitely hasn’t peaked yet.

Unfortunately, can’t say the same thing about TT, although that song has been so schizo in terms of daily updates, who knows what it’ll do in the next couple of days. I would just like to see it make Hot AC Top 15. Top 10 is likely a no go, but it could still make Top 15

Saw on twitter today that on the BB Hot AC chart, TT has moved up one spot this week to #16 (LLWD is again #10 on BB AC chart)

  35. Congrats Adam.that’s so great.Come on The Truth.they should have gone with AWM.I really love CSA I wonder if that would do good on the radio.I also love WAOMF but really want something Kris cowrote.Love BIB but don’t know how that would do and also IIO.

  36. EW has a good article on Katy’s sales

    http://music-mix.ew.com/2010/09/01/katy-perry-album-sales/#more-20388

I think that this is an interesting article and brings up some good points. I think that Katy could be overexposed and that is one of the reasons why her albums sales aren’t as high as they could be.

Her songs have been played a lot especially “California Gurls”, and there are people that liked it that already bought the single and are not interested in buying the album. And there are people that are sick of that song. Plus she might be more of a single seller than albums seller like people like Jason DeRulo is.

  37. Congrats Adam.that’s so great.Come on The Truth.they should have gone with AWM.I really love CSA I wonder if that would do good on the radio.I also love WAOMF but really want something Kris cowrote.Love BIB but don’t know how that would do and also IIO.

I am the world’s worst singles predictor. Seriously terrible. If I like it, it’s a bad single choice. Even I doubted TT as a single. Now AWM I’m not crazy about, so clearly that is the best choice ;)

Is Jive going to drop another single for Archie or let SBL stay out there until the album drops? I did think it’s a cute catchy pop tune. Kiss of death, sorry.

  38. WWFM is at this week 1.5 million without the WWFM Remix sales, it passed 1.5 million a week ago.

Likewise, the IIHY sales posted on USA Today are without the IIHY Remixes and Radio edit sales. Just the album version which has the bulk of the sales.

These versions will get combined for Billboard and for RIAA Certification.

Regarding IIHY on Mediabase — IMO it is headed to #15 but it will take some time.

Has only one song behind it that will pass it at some point in the next week or so….

    23 NELLY Just A Dream 2954 +177 1092 +50 15.457 +0.887 iTunes 7

IIHY will get no help from songs going recurrent….next song above it eligible to go recurrent is Mike Posner CTM and that is w/o 9/19 and prob will be too high on the chart still.

It will to wait for songs above it to drop and IIHY spins to increase. Plus side — several songs above it are dropping.

I also really thought SBL would do well. Archie has a large fanbase and the song is catchy.

Regarding Jive: I am not even trying to think about what they will do next but I think SBL was a good choice. Some of the other Jive single decisions, like TT and all of Alison’s singles, make no sense to me.

My hopes — that Jive quickly releases another KA single. And that they really push SBL and not bail on it too fast BUT if it isn’t going to get pop airplay, get another single out their for Archie before they release his new album.

The rollout of SBL has been really strange. I am surprised at where it is NOT playing. Radio Disney plays anything Idol related. It is one of the few stations I still hear Elliot Yamin. It played all of David’s songs, even Zero Gravity, and played them often. Radio Disney has not played SBL. Sirius XM played A Little Too Not Over You well after it was clear that Jive was not pushing the song anymore. I have not heard SBL on Sirius XM. Both Crush and ALTNOY went onto VH1 for voting shortly after release. SBL has not been on the voting list let alone the countdown show. I don’t buy the excuse about the delay in getting the video on TV being due to the need to black out the Sony logo in the music video – it can’t be that difficult. Just a very strange rollout. But still, it is in the Top 50 so can’t really complain.

i hope hes second album rockout, fingercross.is anybody have adam sale on other country?

He has pretty much said that the next album will be mostly pop so the radio will play it. Not much chance of radio playing any of his rock music.

  44. I really don’t think Jive has even started pushing SBL yet, for some reason. There is no real indication that they are that I know of. Unless I missed something. I’ll wait for some signs of a push before I judge. How long has it been since the add date?

No way should Adam make a rock album methinks. He needs to follow up on the path he’s already started IMO.

  45. I really don’t think Jive has even started pushing SBL yet, for some reason. There is no real indication that they are that I know of. Unless I missed something. I’ll wait for some signs of a push before I judge. How long has it been since the add date?

I think this is where I am at too. Are they waiting until closer to the album date? If so, why make the adds date so early? It’s a lead single. Jive confuses me sometimes.

And I also agree that no one would play rock from Adam. Idols don’t get rock radio play and adam likes pop too much to even attempt pure rock. He’s smart and knows that. And frankly, there’s not a whole lot of rock radio airplay these days anyway. I actually like rock but my local rock station seems to play classic with a couple of new tunes thrown in here and there.

  46. because people expect his album to be rock not pop, autotuned song, and amas hurt his album sale.i saw most fan of him didnt like the album, the cover which people expect much cool cover.i happy hes selling well.

tuti- Anyone even remotely listening to Adam talk about his album pre-drop knew he was not making a rock album. He described his album from the beginning as an eclectic pop/glam rock dance mix and that is what he did. Anyone expecting a rock album was not paying attention. The AMA/cover thing has been discussed to death (I loved the cover). So listen to Adam this time, he says the next album will be on the lines of WWFM and IIHY which is fine by me because I think he will come up with a fabulous album. If this is not what you want from him I am sorry but just preparing you since you can’t seem to let go of this rock album idea.

  47. Anyone expecting a rock album was not paying attention.

Well, to be fair, I think a whole huge chunk of Idol buyers don’t actually pay attention to the contestant’s interviews after the show. LOL. I think there are a lot of folks who love someone on Idol but don’t expend a lot of energy following their every word… but then buy their record as soon as they hear a song on the radio or catch promo about it in the fall. So he might have caught a lot of folks by surprise who were expecting their “Rock God” (Thanks, Kara!) to deliver their modern day Whole Lotta Love. LOL. But who knows how much of an effect that had in the end.

But I totally agree he made the right kind of album and that he should keep going in that vein, just refine it.

Speaking of second albums.. Mr. Cook? Where are you?

I really think Cook has gone into the Witness Protection Program never to be seen or heard of again.

  49. Sorry, NOT a Fantasia fan since her shenanigans with the married dude, and her upcoming reality show with him in it. Still think many of the sales were “sympathy sales”. Oh well… We’ll find out soon enough.

On Katy Perry, I think she’ll be just fine. She does have the #1 album in the country this week. Also, as far as I remember, her other album did A-Ok too. It also seemes, to me, that artists with HUGE single sales and radio play tend to not see the same with their album debuts. Take rapper Flo Rida for instance, he sold 5X+ Platinum for his single, “Low”, and only had about the same sales as Katy Perry (I think even less) for his debut. Also, Rihanna (and GaGa) were bested by Adam during their debuts/re-releases and are now outselling him left and right. It just seems to me that it all comes down to who is “accepted” by the music consumers, radio and TV – and who can keep who they are and what they do relevant, interesting and entertaining. Katy Perry seems to have a knack for that, so I expect platinum sales from her album eventually.

On Kris, not a big Kris Allen fan at all, but I do LOVE LLWD. I hear it on the radio (mostly AC/HAC) about 5X a day (that’s more than IIHY)! I’ve only heard TT about 3 times TOTAL since it’s release. I think he’ll be fine too. He just needs a “do over”. Preferably on a new label/management company.

On Adam, I’m GLAD he won’t be doing a Rock album for his follow-up. I like him glittery, glam and pop just fine! I also LOVE that he mixes it up and throws you for a loop with his bonus tracks on both his domestic and international releases. If he wants to indulge his inner rocker, I welcome him to do it through the bonus tracks.

Speaking of Adam Lambert bonuses, does anyone know how the sales of his “possibly” upcoming GlamNation Live DVD (from VEVO’s Indy taping) are goint to be tallied? I know movie sales and rentals are recorded, but don’t know about concert DVDs. If a live recording of the concert is included in the DVD (wishful thinking), would it count towards sales of FYE also or as a seperate release?

Totally with you here. I love the glam/pop but his bonus tracks are among my favorites. I actually avoid Voodoo sometimes because I am then compelled to repeat it 4-5 times, LOL!

  51. I really think Cook has gone into the Witness Protection Program never to be seen or heard of again.

A November release for his second album is still not out of the question. Don’t forget that Light On was not released for sale on iTunes until September 30. I think it was streamed on AOL a week earlier. That did not prevent his first album from being released on November 18.

  52. I think Katy Perry is doing very well right now. Her debut album opened with a lot less than the second, but it sold more than 1.6 million in the USA and 5 million worldwide. Don’t forget her single sales. I’m sure “Teenage Dream” will also go platinum and her album has a ton of radio friendly, catchy pop songs and I’m sure she will release several more. And that’s all that matters for an artist like her.

I think everyone should read this NY Times article.

British hip-hop artist Taio Cruz sold only 93K of his album in the USA since it’s release 12 weeks ago. But he also sold 4.9 (now probably more than 5) million copies of his two hit singles. His label thinks he is a commercial success.

  53. It does sound like David Cook is still writing and recording for the second album. As much as I would love it to be released in November, I think he should take the time he needs with it.

  54. So I have relatives in Syracuse where the NYS Fair is, and my cousin just sent me an article about the guarantees given to different artists. http://www.9wsyr.com/content/news/fair/story2/State-Fair-spent-4-1-million-to-book-performances/NwBOxbfrA02ULSghDsxRWQ.cspx
Katherine Mcphee is giving a free concert later in the week, and her guarantee is $22,500. How much of that does she get to keep probably? It doesn’t seem like bad money to me…of course Aerosmith’s guarantee was $1,000,000 lol.

  55. And that’s all that matters for an artist like her.

    Yup, couldn’t agree more.

Just listen to a Katy Perry album, all that matters to her is sales lol.

  56. how come dautry(rock) or soibhan want (metal punk)can make album like that and adam cant?i dont live in usa but i hear lots of rock, pop on the radio?can anyone explain?

  57. Tuti, I saw an interview with Adam that said that one reason he didn’t do rock because the type of rock that is selling now wouldn’t be the kind he would do if he did do rock. If he did it would be more classic rock than goth or metal. And I do see some elements of this in his vocals. The reason he may not be doing it may simply be he didn’t want to go in that direction. He has said he did dance music and pop because that’s what he wanted to do.

  58. tuti…i am afraid that the type of music that Adam wants to create simply is not for you. Adam is not and has never been a punk or goth rocker. Daughtry is a pop/rock act. That is not really Adam’s style either. Siobhan doesn’t have a record deal and metal goth is not particularly commercially successful. Adam wants to be a pop act — with songs that are played on pop and hac radio stations in the US. He wants to be a commercial success. That is the type of music he is aiming to make. Most of his fans really love the type of music he is making. He has been successful with two singles going gold and/or platinum in many countries, he has sold over 1 million albums worldwide and his album has gone gold or platinum in several countries. He simply is not going to be the punk/goth/hard rocker that you want him to be.

  59. Tuti, Adam will make the kinda of music that will sell better, he won’t try different things that may not fit radio so much right now. And it’s really hard for solo guys to sell rock anyway-

  60. how come muse is succesful asrock?

Muse has been around for several years and only recently has found success in the US. I love Muse but how often do you hear Muse on Top 40 radio?
tuti- I give up. I know you want Adam to do rock but that is not what he wants to do. He can sing rock with the best but his heart is in glam/pop. This does not mean he is not creative or is not using his talent, he is just not making the kind of music you want him to, sorry.

  61. Katy’s got a couple of tracks on the album that are much better than the singles. Yep, I’m being an album person again. Her writing can be pretty good. And then there are a couple of crap tunes.

Sioban has no album deal, she won’t be making anything unless she does it herself or finds an indie label to sign with. The type of rock that is popular now is with bands and that sound is nothing like what adam would want to make, his voice doesn’t suit it. Rock airplay is virtually impossible for idols to get. He’ll rock out his songs live in his own way. He’s pop.

Sorry he’s such a disappointment to you.

  62. hes not disappoint tome,im saying hes have awsome look, cool, funky look, awsome cloth style but my point is that adam can go futurastic,go further but hes going backward, ilove adam and siobhhan too.shes with her band making an album and get record deal but she love doing alternative rock experimenting metal punk which is awsome.
dont tell me she wont be huge star.adam desorve better than that.

  63. haha ask siobhan.maybe mix rock, punk, similar to muse metal as well, but she be huge in future.

  64. Although he likes rock and can certainly perform in that genre, it seems like Adam is more interested in the pop/rock, dance/pop type music. That’s more likely to get him radio play anyway, for it is basically impossible for anyone connected with AI to get played by rock stations, whether they be AAA, Alternative, Rock, Hard Rock/Metal, or whatever.

Also — my computer is being especially wonky today and won’t let me on any iTunes stuff. Can someone please tell me ho Kris’s music video is selling? Is it ranked anywhere in the Top 50/100 MVs? Thanks!

  65. girlygirl, Kris is #31 in music videos.

Good luck to Sioban, but I don’t see huge in her future. She may carve out her own punk metal niche of her own and making a living. I’m not as optimistic as you are.

  66. haha ask siobhan.maybe mix rock, punk, similar to muse metal as well, but she be huge in future.

tuti- I hate to say it but I think you are going to be just as disappointed and puzzled with Siobhan as you are with Adam.

  67. Tuti needs to learn that there is no such thing as FUTURISTIC music, unless you think punk/goth/metal which is also DECADES OLD somehow is FUTURISTIC.
