Idol Headlines for 7/4/12

Happy 4th of July, my fellow Americans! Tonight, there will be PLENTY of videos to post, as many of the stars we cover here will perform on holiday specials.

DWTS host, Tom Bergeron will host A Capitol 4th, airing on PBS stations across the country. Check your local listings. Phillip Phillips will perform his single “Home”, plus The Voice 1 winner, Javier Colon, Glee star, Amber Riley (She’ll sing “Proud Mary”) and Smash star Megan Hilty are set to perform. The concert will take place on the West Lawn of the Capitol building.

A little later, Jennifer Hudson will perform with the Boston Pops Symphony orchestra on the Esplanade in Boston! Hell no, I won’t be there. You couldn’t get me near that mess. The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular is set to air at 10 pm et on CBS. NBC has a Macy’s special, featuring Katy Perry and Kenny Chesey that airs at 9 pm.

John Legend, Kelly Clarkson Talk About New Show – Clarkson, who was the first-ever “American Idol” winner when the reality show launched in 2002, knows a thing or two about pressure and tough critics. “It is 10 years later and I love finding kids who were my age when I started,” Clarkson said. “I had no guidance. …at Summerfest over the weekend, and now she’s in a wheelchair! Good thing she has her backup singers around to give her a hand. She posted a photo yesterday, “Sprained my foot and have a hairline fracture but the show must go on people ha! Thank you @ashes2lashes”

Star Spotting: Demi Lovato Face Plants Simon Cowell Into A Cake – The “Give Your Heart A Break” singer shared the HILARIOUS photo of her on the brink of sugar-smashing her fellow “X Factor” judge’s face on her Twitter with the clever caption, “Getting along with @SimonCowell is a piece of cake!!! #RIFactor.” OK, so we’re not sure if she actually followed through with the whole face-plant. (This happened backstage at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence Friday Night) via MTV

Jennifer Hudson displays plenty of her curves as she wears a VERY low-cut zebra dress to rehearse for Independence Day concert – Jennifer Hudson was in Boston tonight rehearsing for her big July 4th concert with the Boston Pops. But more than her voice was booming. The 30-year-old wore a full-length zebra print dress so tight that her rounded cleavage was pushed front and centre. Check out the Photos at The Daily Mail

Jennifer Hudson describes upcoming multi-episode role on ‘Smash’ as ‘the perfect opportunity’ – “It’s just the perfect opportunity,” Hudson, a fan of the NBC show, said in a recent interview. “It’s gonna be challenging, and I’m a little bit intimidated to play this big Broadway star. But it’s gonna be a great experience. I can’t wait to get started.” She also admitted the show may be a way for her to ease into an appearance on Broadway. – Read more at The Washington Post

Carrie Underwood Hopes to Take on Role of Lauren Alaina’s ‘Big Sister’ – “I’ve had co-writes go on other people’s albums before, but this’ll be my first single. I’ve never had that before,” Underwood explains.  “Lauren is so amazing and does such a great job. And it’s so wonderful that that song found a home with her, you know, and I think even she and even her mom, they’re like, ‘This is, like, our song — like, this is all about us.’ And it just fits her really well.” Underwood, who admits she sees a little of herself in Lauren, feels a special connection to the 17-year-old singer. “All of us ‘Idol’ people — we’re all part of this club. Julian Lennon Completes Song With Steven Tyler – In a Facebook post Julian said, “Mixing is finally done on ‘Someday’ with Steven Tyler, & ‘In Between’… Sounds FAB! Seriously Good! I couldn’t be happier… Now to relax with a few friends for dinner, then off I go… Home Sweet Home… ;) Catch you on the flip side of the pond…. The song will be featured as extra tracks on the international release of ‘Everything Changes’. On June 9, Julian announced he was going to spend the day writing with Tyler. Was an X-Factor hosting audition part of Erin Andrews’ deal with Fox? – AS: I’m sure you’ve seen the rumblings and reports about you auditioning for and possibly being a finalist for the hosting job on X Factor. Is that true and where in the process is that at this point? EA: “We are really interested in trying a bunch of different things. I don’t know where they are with all of that but my goodness, it’s on FOX. I would definitely love to also try to be a judge on So You Think You Can Dance? for one episode, too, because I’m obsessed with that show.
