Ryan Seacrest to Produce Spanish Singing Competition Show (Exclusive) – Ryan Seacrest is adding another singing competition series to his crowded résumé. Through his Ryan Seacrest Productions, the American Idol host has sold 13 two-hour episodes of the variety competition format Duelo Musical: Super Estrella (SuperStar Showdown) to Spanish-language network Telemundo. Seacrest is set to peddle the series via video during the network’s upfront presentation to Madison Avenue buyers May 14. The shiny-floor format revolves around two music artists competing head to head, with the loser having to fulfill a gentlemen’s bet. Each episode will feature challenges, mystery acts and big musical performances — plus two new stars. As on Seacrest’s other music competition series, viewers will decide who wins. – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter
‘American Idol’ judges drama continues to overshadow competition – LOS ANGELES — The ratings are down. Randy Jackson is out. Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj are still at it. All is not well on TV’s once dominant “American Idol,” despite a shake-up at the beginning of this season that was supposed to rejuvenate the aging Fox talent competition. Instead, the behind-the-scenes-and-sometimes-in-front-of-the-scenes drama continues to cast a shadow over the series, right up to Thursday’s coronation of “Idol’s” 12th season champion. – Read more at The Washington Post
An off-tune ‘American Idol’ strategy of making hit show about judges instead of contestants has viewers tuning out – It doesn’t take a media genius to diagnosis one of the major mistakes “American Idol” has made these last couple of years. It has shifted too many of its chips away from the contestants, who made “Idol” the most popular TV show of the early 21st century, over to the judges, who at the end of the day are just expensive faces in today’s sea of celebrities. The question now is whether it’s too late to shove those chips back across the table — which you can bet the show will try to do after another year that’s been 40 miles of bad road. – Read more at NY Daily News

Nikki Reed Engraved Paul McDonald Love Notes in New Jewelry Collection – Nikki Reed is one to wear her heart on her sleeve — and her jewelry. In an interview with fashion website Refinery29, the Twilight actress reveals the inspiration for her latest jewelry collection for 7 For All Mankind: a little thing called love. “It’s all about love, so it just fits with what my life is right now,” shared Reed, who married musician and former American Idol contestant Paul McDonald, 28, two years ago. “All Paul and I write about is love, so parts of about 20 little love notes I wrote are engraved on some of the jewelry.” – Read more at US Magazine
What’s Next for Randy Jackson After ‘American Idol’? – The goal of “American Idol,” a dozen seasons ago when it started, was to create stars out of unknowns. It did so for Simon Cowell, perhaps the most famous A&R man on the planet, who has surrounded himself with television and music projects here and in the U.K. since his days as a judge on “Pop Idol.” It did the same for Randy Jackson, an A&R executive and producer whose bass-playing credits include stints with Bruce Springsteen and Journey, but whose name was little known in the general public. – Read more at Billboard.com
Bob Mould – interview: The former Sugar and Hüsker Dü frontman on going solo, embracing his past, and loving Kelly Clarkson – Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba said he loved Kelly Clarkson’s Since You’ve Been Gone but was afraid to admit to it until talking to you… That is very true. She is the real deal. The way she came to our attention was weird, but that is a great pop song. He and I share that guilty pleasure. We all want to be cool. We sometimes think that admitting we like something for mass consumption means the corner of our ‘cool card’ will be cut off, but whatever. Music is music. EEEP! One of my favorite punk musicians from the 80s loves Kelly! – Read more at TNT Magazine
