I especially like Crystal Bowersox’s rootsy “Farmer’s Daughter” (decidedly not the Rodney Atkins song of the same name). It’s an intense emotional jolt that carries an unexpected thematic twist. How often do you hear a daughter rail against her abusive mother in a song?

DAVID ARCHULETA PSYCHED FOR NYE!

David Archuleta is ready to ring in the New Year in Vegas! He’ll be a part of “New Year’s Eve Live, ” airing this Friday on Fox. With the new album, “The Other Side of Down, ” out in stores this year…he’s still not done celebrating! We talked to David and he told us that this album was challenging because he got a lot more involved with the writing this time around. This album is extra special for him since it signifies the end of his teen years and it really is, as he put it, “introducing David.” His goal was really to keep it positive and to continue to make people feel good when they listen to his music. The great thing about David is how much he adores his fans. It’s simple for him though, he says that what means the most to him is their continued support. He’s thankful that they just enjoy what he’s doing and they enjoy the music. He hopes to celebrate with a few of his fans on New Year’s Eve because he is counting down the seconds to 2011! Ryan Seacrest: Will Snow Stop ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’?

“Believe me, I was thinking about [it last] Friday night, wondering, ‘Is New Year’s Eve going to be like this — whiteout conditions?'” Ryan tells ET. “I actually moved my trip up. I came in earlier by a day and made it ten minutes before they shut down the runway, so we almost didn’t make it here early in the week.”

Fortunately, the brutal weather has subsided and Ryan says the forecast for “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” should call for “a fantastic night for those who are going to come out [to Times Square], and obviously for those who watch at home; that’s why we do it.”
