Kelly Clarkson, breakup queen? – Reflecting on how her fifth album, Stronger, came together, compared to her previous efforts, Kelly Clarkson gushes: “Oh, it was so much easier!” She breathes this out as though something heavy is being released from her – and her Texas drawl, previously kept in check, rolls out with it. “We just really clicked, the whole team that went into this album,” she says. She was in sync with executives at her record label, RCA, and her A&R guy. She connected with the co-writers she’d been eyeing, Greg Kurstin (Sia, Kylie Minogue) and Rodney Jerkins (Destiny’s Child, Mary J. Blige). And just generally, she thinks there was another important factor at play: “I think, because it’s my fifth album, people are getting more used to me, like writers know me better, producers know me better. I think it becomes a lot easier with each record.” – Read more at the Montreal Gazette

Scientists buzz Simon Cowell for promoting pseudoscience – Simon Cowell believes he can look and feel young by taking an intravenous cocktail of vitamins C, B12 and magnesium: “It’s an incredibly warm feeling … You feel all the vitamins going through you. It’s very calming.” Ursula Arens, a dietitian at the British Dietetic Association said that Cowell’s treatment was unlikely to be providing much benefit and that, unless someone has a vitamin deficiency, their food intake should provide all the vitamins they need. “The absorption of vitamins is very efficient so – apart from people who are very ill or have particular gut problems – nearly all of what you eat is taken up by your body,” she said. “If you are worried about not getting enough vitamins from food, and cannot change your diet, then vitamin supplements are a simple way to give you reassurance.” – The Guardian

Dick Clark: Rockin’ it on New Year’s since 1972 – Ask Dick Clark for his top memories of his iconic New Year’s Rockin’ Eve show and he ticks off a handful. “The year of the Iran hostage crisis, the ball almost didn’t drop,” he says; in 1980, the owner of One Times Square wanted to cancel to protest Iran’s detention of 52 Americans. “Then, of course, there was the millennium,” Clark says. “The most nerve-racking would have to be the first New Year’s Eve after the 9/11 tragedy.” – Read more at USA Today
