Jennifer Hudson Set to Perform for First Time Since Family Murders

Jennifer Hudson has been announced to be among the Grammy nominees who’ll sing the songs of Neil Diamond at February’s MusiCares Person of the Year gala.

The Grammy week event could mark the first public appearance of the Dreamgirls Oscar winner since the tragic events in late October, when her mother, brother and nephew were killed in Chicago.

Clay Aiken Receives Sardi’s Caricature

Clay Aiken, who plays Sir Robin in the Broadway production of Monty Python’s Spamalot, received his caricature at the world-famous Sardi’s restaurant on December 23.

Since appearing on the FOX-TV reality series American Idol, in which he was a finalist, Aiken has released numerous albums, including A Thousand Different Ways and Measure of a Man, co-authored a best-selling book Learning to Sing: Hearing the Music in Your Life, and played six sold-out concert tours. He made headlines this year by fathering a son, Parker, and coming out in an interview with People magazine.

Abdul Boosts “Martha Stewart” Ratings

Pre-Christmas crafts and a visit from Paula Abdul helped send NBC Universal Domestic Television …The Martha Stewart Show to a season high in the Nielsen syndicated programming ratings for the week ending Dec. 14.

…Stewart hosted Ms. Abdul on Dec. 10, giving the show a 1.0 household rating for the day, up 43% week-to-week. For the entire week, …Stewart posted a 0.9 household rating, increasing 29% from the previous week.

Carrie Underwood Ranks First on Year-End List for, Top 20 Countdown

Carrie Underwood was the most-streamed artist on in 2008, with the video for “All-American Girl” boasting more than 1.4 million streams for the year. In addition, her video for “Just a Dream” earned the top spot on the year-end edition of CMT’s Top 20 Countdown. The video spent all but two weeks in the Top 5 during its 16-week run on the countdown. A special year-end Top 20 Countdown, hosted by Lance Smith, will debut Friday (Dec. 26) at 1 p.m., ET/PT.

Kellie Pickler did a 2007 remake of an Eartha Kitt song that Kellie says is “sexy.” “Ive never been a really big Christmas person, honestly, ” Kellie told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. “My favorite Christmas movie is The Grinch, so everyone always calls me the Grinch ‘  Scrooge, whatever. So Christmas songs, I dont even know all the lyrics to ‹Jingle Bells.” “Santa Baby” was her best option: “It not as corny as ‹Jingle Bells.”


New Kelly Clarkson Single Due Next Month

Kelly Clarkson’s new single, “My Life Would Suck Without You, ” will hit U.S. radio outlets Jan. 19. The track will introduce her fourth, as-yet-untitled studio album, due March 17 from RCA.

Although a track list has yet to be announced, Clarkson has worked with producer/songwriter Dr. Luke and OneRepublic leader Ryan Tedder on new material.

The album will be the follow-up to 2007’s “My December, ” which has sold 780, 000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.


Dish Of Salt: Top 10 TV Shows Of 2008

#8 ‘ …American Idol ‘ After a disappointing and lackluster group of contestants in Season Six (save for Sanjaya!), Season Seven roared back with a diverse group of singers from dreadlock-loving Jason Castro to hippie chick Brooke White. I didnt even mind the so-called …ringers Carly Smithson and Michael Johns. Even the instruments I feel added a little zing to the show. Who could forget when Brooke had to start her song over because she messed up on the piano! Ultimately, it boiled down to David versus David. Cook and Archuleta are what truly made the show this year and what a fantastic finish it was for Cook at the finale.


Caught in the Act!

Paula Abdul, attending to some retail therapy at L.A.’s outdoor mall, The Grove. The American Idol judge picked up some high-heeled converse sneakers at Theodore. Says an onlooker: “She was smiling and dancing to the Christmas music.” Abdul left her new purchase at the store while she continued to shop, returning 30 minutes later to pick up her shoes. “Abdul and her guy pal were sarcastically joking about funny colors and things that would look great on camera, ” the onlooker says. After shopping, the duo then lunched at the Italian restaurant La Piazza.


BGT George’s anger at Cowell

George, 15, reportedly laid into his mentor for fluffing his single release.

His debut single Get Up On The Dancefloor/Headz Up flopped to number 30 in the charts.

And the teen pointed the finger at Cowell for the poor showing.

He said: …It was purely based on the timing, which was wrong.

…We should have done the DVD first to get the visual and let everyone see the new routine on the Royal Variety Show, then brought out the single.

The dancer also slammed Cowell for Leon Jackson chart failure ‘ reportedly claiming he waited too long to release his debut.

He added: …People forget about you after a year. He needed to move quicker.
