Clarkson – and fans – in strong voice at Tower
If 50, 000, 000 Elvis fans can’t be wrong, what about a sold-out Tower filled with screeching young girls hollering for their Kelly Clarkson?
The American Idol may have gone bleakly bittersweet (you know, in a pop way) with her album My December. But Thursday’s kid audience saw sunshine and lollipops……..

Q. We dont hear much about American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. How come?
‘ Alfreda Castor, Portage, Ind.
A. None of last season finalists (with the possible exception of Sanjaya Malakar) seems to have ignited the public. In fact, this summer 57-concert Idols Live Tour was a bust. Maybe Jordin, 17, will spark some interest when she releases her self-titled CD next month.
Traits of success
….Today, singer Head is best known to the “American Idol” generation as the father of last year’s hopeful Sundance Head. But in 1965, he was neck and neck on the charts with the Beatles. With its thumpin’ beat, blazing horns and Head’s soulful delivery, “Treat Her Right” was the hottest number on the radio, perched at no. 2 on the Billboard Top 40 chart and rarin’ to take over when “Help!” dropped down. But “Treat Her Right” was leapfrogged by another Beatles single. Little ditty called “Yesterday.” ….

The Next Great American Band Whittled Down to 12 Finalists
After the first episode of the Fox reality show …The Next Great American Band it safe to say that The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones have little to worry about when it comes to being unseated as rock immortals.
Much like its sibling shows …American Idol and …America Got Talent those tuning in to the premier episode were treated to some truly awful bands that were obviously showcased to draw gasps and laughs but eventually the three judges, Ian ‹Dicko Dickson, Sheila E., and John Rzeznik were able to whittle the 60 finalists down to the twelve finalists vying for the title …The Next Great American Band……….
The Next Great American Band: Episode 1 Recap
Unlike with American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance, FOX is really hustling through the auditions for The Next Great American Band. The Next Great American Band Top Twelve Bands Revealed
….One other similarity with American Idol is that heartwarming background stories were revealed for many of the bands. Two bands, The Sizzling Happy Family and Northmont, said that they were going to hang it up if they did not get through to the next round. Sadly, neither of the bands made it to the next round. Northmont even got two shots to audition, but they did not meet with approval from the judges either time.
There were inspirational bands like Big Toe and The Muggs, and there were gimmick bands like The Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad and Zombie Bazooka Patrol, but only twelve bands were ultimately selected for the semifinals….
Premierewatch: ‘The Next Great American Band’
The last thing I thought we needed was yet another performance-based reality series where America votes to find the next big whatever. Between American Idol and Dancing with the Stars and America’s Got Talent and heck, two competing can-you-remember-the-words-to-the-song shows, I figured the genre was kind of tapped out. But I just watched The Next Great American Band, and you know what? It doesn’t suck. The judges actually seem to care about musicianship. They only spent a little time on horrible acts, instead devoting time to people who could actually sing and play. There’s hope for us yet………
Detroit rockers the Muggs advance to next round on “Great American Band”
“We are the ugliest band in the world. We’re called the Muggs, and we’re from Detroit, Michigan.”
That was the nation’s introduction Friday night to the Detroit rock trio the Muggs, as delivered by the band’s lead singer-guitarist Danny Methric.
I’ll have to admit — it was pretty exciting to see a Detroit band caught up in the quest to be crowned “The Next Great American Band, ” the title of the new Fox TV show modeled on “American Idol” that debuted on Friday……..
Local band spotlight comes up blank on TV show
Unfortunately, local band The Long-Haired Chihuahuas did not get their shot at TV fame Friday night.
The band was supposed to be on …The Next Great American Band, a new competition show on Fox TV.
But the band did not get on the show, nor was it among the 12 semifinal bands that advanced to the next level and would perform weekly in front of a live studio audience.

Sparing us the train wrecks, ‘Band’ is a compelling watch
