Adam Lambert’s Back-up Dancer Temporarily Detained at NAIA

MANILA, Philippines – A police aviation security confirmed Monday that a back-up dancer of the American Idol runner-up was temporarily held at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after officials spotted ammunition for an Armalite rifle inside the dancer’s luggage.

The ammunition were spotted through the airport’s X-ray scanner.

Chief Superintendent Pedro Desuasido of the Aviation Security Group said Taylor Brattun Green, 20, was about to board the Cathay Pacific flight 900 en route to Hong Kong when he was accosted at the departure area of NAIA terminal 1.

Desuasido said that the ammunition, all 18 pieces of them, were used as props for the concert held Sunday night.

No charges were filed and Green was eventually released.

Malaysia Islamists Object to Adam Lambert Concert

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) – Malaysia’s Islamist opposition party on Monday demanded that authorities cancel a planned concert by U.S. glam rocker Adam Lambert that they say is promoting “gay culture” in the mainly Muslim country.

The Pan Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) has also threatened to call “as many of its members and supporters” to proselytize to concert-goers if the performance by the former “American Idol” runner-up goes ahead on Thursday, a party official said.

“Adam Lambert’s shows… are outrageous, with lewd dancing and a gay performance that includes kissing male dancers, this is not good for people in our country, ” said PAS Youth leader Nasrudin Hasan. Homosexual sex is a criminal offence in Malaysia.

Before Leaving Texas, Casey Discussed Music, Heading to Nashville and His Upcoming CD

If you expected Casey James to sound frazzled after the year he’s had, you’d be surprised. The voice on the other end of the phone, who told me he was “relaxing here in Ft. Worth, Texas, ” sounded rested and happy. It
was an ordinary Saturday. Casey had spent the day over at his best friend Jake’s house and watched the Texas – Oklahoma college football game. He joked about the Texas team’s less-than-impressive performance and reflected on how great it was to be able to do something so normal after such a whirlwind year.

Ah, Nashville. Music City USA. Home of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry. Casey’s excitement about heading to Nashville is palpable and infectious. Any question about why someone often described as a blues rocker signed with a country label was quickly dispelled. “I love country music, always have and always will. That’s where I’m at. I’m signed to Sony Nashville and things could not be any better. And the thing that I’m most excited about is that I’m going to bring something new to the situation. And to be honest with you I know that they’re excited about it as well.”

Cast a Vote in The Cheesecake Factory’s “Share Your Voice” Singing Competition

CALABASAS HILLS, Calif., Oct 11, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) — This summer, The Cheesecake Factory, asked Americans to “Share Your Voice” in a multifaceted movement to raise awareness for Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month in September. One component of the campaign encouraged inspired singers to submit a performance of the uplifting song “Lean on Me” online or at many of the American Idol Live concert tour stops across the United States. The Cheesecake Factory received more than 1, 000 “Idol-oke” submissions, and now in true American Idol-style, it’s America’s turn to vote on the four finalists to select the grand prize winner.

The public can cast a vote for their favorite singer online at www.thecheesecakefactory.com/share from now until October 17, 2010. Voters will also have the chance to win more than 100 instant prizes, including cheesecake for a year, complimentary slices of cheesecake and $25 gift cards.*

Cowell may can Coke for Pepsi sponsorship

Simon Cowell might be sitting in front of a Pepsi cup next fall when Fox debuts his new talent contest, “X Factor.”

The beverage giant is in talks to become a sponsor of the show, fronted by Cowell, the former “American Idol” judge, sources tell The Post.

“American Idol, ” is due back on air in January and is sponsored very visibly by Pepsi’s arch-rival, Coke, which has been an integral sponsor for years.

Whether Pepsi signs on with Cowell’s new venture is still open to question since the show, being imported from the UK, is still a year from its US debut. Cowell, who turned 51 last week, and his production company, SyCo, part-owned by Sony Corp., are not expected to begin filming until June.

FYD blame running order for exit

X Factor rejects FYD have blamed the show’s running order for them being given the boot in the first week of live finals.

The group said that being the first act on Saturday’s show had counted against them because some viewers missed the early minutes of the show.

The five piece boyband from London – Matthew Lawton, 26, Kalvin Lamey, 25, Alex Murdoch, 22, Ryan-Lee Seager, 22, and Jordan Gabriel, 22 – were left in the bottom three after the public vote.

They were booted off after competing in the sing-off against Katie Waissel, and only their mentor Simon Cowell chose to try to save them.

Jennifer Lopez — ‘Idol’ Support from Ex-Husband

Jennifer Lopez has 2 ex-hubbys — one who’s trying to use her gig on “American Idol” to re-inject himself into the spotlight … and one who’s simply wishing her well. Can you guess which description fits Chris Judd???

FYI — the other ex-hubby we’re referring to is Ojani Noa … who recently announced that he was going to crash this year’s “Idol” auditions … even though he’s 8 years past the limit.

  1. LOL, so it won’t be just American Idol v. The X Factor and Simon v. Simon, but also Coke v. Pepsi?

  2. Don’t know if this is rumor or fact:

@auspOp: @hotmud The X Factor said that Adam Lambert is performing on The X Factor (Australia) next week. Announced at the end of the show!

  3. I may be the only one who cares but Justin Guarini is in the cast of Woman on the Verge of A Nervous Breakdown. That’s a big Bway show that’s currently in previews. I’m impressed he got the gig.

Hopefully not too OT but I just saw Darius Rucker on GMA. He was great (and I hate country). He’s the type of artist (just like Bruno Mars) who I could see coming out of Idol. Why can’t Idol find (or create) the breakout stars anymore? Grr.

  4. Don’t know if this is rumor or fact:

@auspOp: @hotmud The X Factor said that Adam Lambert is performing on The X Factor (Australia) next week. Announced at the end of the show!

Well, that should be easy to check. You need to find torrent of the last X Factor Australia episode and download it.

  5. Glad to hear Kris was able to get into the recording studio during his break.

  6. Maybe Adam will pull a Motown and put on a suit, slick back his hair, kill the make up and shock us all and be one of the most conservative performers they’ve ever had there.

I don’t put anything by him anymore. ;-)

As far as taking off his clothes, they don’t watch his shows. He puts clothes on, he doesn’t take them off – Strut jacket anyone???

  7. Hopefully not too OT but I just saw Darius Rucker on GMA. He was great (and I hate country). He’s the type of artist (just like Bruno Mars) who I could see coming out of Idol.

Darius is really good. His current single is ok, like first album the best. One of Danny Gokey’s favorites, he is a soulful country singer also. That is why some singers migrate to country- good vocals and melody are valued; there is so much crap on pop radio. Although I have to say the real twangy stuff grates on me.

Adam should be thanking the Islamists; they are keeping him in the news there, bet some extra tickets were sold after that bit ;)

  8. Will Casto’s EP sales be counted as new albums or as part of his debut album? Last I saw his 1st ep sold 7k & his album was like 35k.

  9. Actually – this reminds me of Tuesday nights during Idol…wondering what he will do! ;-)

  10. I am kind of torn part of me feels don’t back down Adam play the concert another part of me thinks he should cancel his concert in Malaysia to be safe. Extremist anywhere is not safe and there is no telling how far some of these people will go. I am worried to say the least. I mean Taylor being held and all the news on it when all it was is a bracelet and fake, is just Overkill to me. The first reports had said he was being charged and arrested which is not what happened at all. Adam be careful not everyone in this world is going to find what you do playful and fun and they may do much more then ban you from a few tv programs. I hope it is all just unnecessary worry but these people don’t play. All this because he likes men….jeez

In other news Yeah for him being on X-Factor Australia.

  11. So ABC News Entertainment is reporting the Malaysia story…not that it isn’t their prerogative to report whatever they want but it would be interesting to search back and see if they reported the same story when Beyonce and others backed out of their concert.

Maybe I’m paranoid but it is interesting that ABC (who banned Adam) would highlight a story that “shows” his type of entertainment is not welcome in other places. Kind of covering your Ass.

But then, I am sure the story might get some legs and more outlets will cover it…after all ABC thinks its NEWS.

  12. As far as taking off his clothes, they don’t watch his shows. He puts clothes on, he doesn’t take them off – Strut jacket anyone???

    And Sleepwalker coat……
I think he’ll be fine if he just completely removes Fever from his set list. I would think that should be easy enough to do. However, I do feel badly for his fans there because they would probably love it!
His drummer and dancers may need to cover up a bit more as well.

  13. Maybe I’m paranoid but it is interesting that ABC (who banned Adam) would highlight a story that “shows” his type of entertainment is not welcome in other places. Kind of covering your Ass.

I think you’re being paranoid. I remember lots of reports about Beyonce cancelling her concert there. Of course, I didn’t understand why. I don’t follow her like I follow Adam.

I think it will be a bigger story if Adam cancels the show this late. I’m sure he’s known about the restrictions for a while. They can’t be new to him.

  14. Maybe I’m paranoid but it is interesting that ABC (who banned Adam) would highlight a story that “shows” his type of entertainment is not welcome in other places. Kind of covering your Ass.

And this makes me all the more wanting for this show to be successful. Knowing Adam, it will be! ;)

  15. So ABC News Entertainment is reporting the Malaysia story…not that it isn’t their prerogative to report whatever they want but it would be interesting to search back and see if they reported the same story when Beyonce and others backed out of their concert.

But then, I am sure the story might get some legs and more outlets will cover it…after all ABC thinks its NEWS.

Honestly I didn’t read it that way at all. Apparently there have been quite a few stories about this in the Malaysian press and it appears to me that ABC is just picking it up as a American music act being protested by islamic fundamentalists story. And its an interesting issue — countries like malaysia want to attract western business and money, but suffer from bad publicity when their morals police start protesting mainstream entertainers, prosecuting women for drinking etc etc. On the one hand, the entertainers (and other businesses) could just say, forget it, who needs this crap, I’m not going to go there; on the other hand by doing that the islamic fundamentalists gain more power over society and you deny your fans the opportunity to see you by bowing to the pressure. I just hope that Adam’s people have fully apprise him of the issue, and that he is aware of local laws, mores etc. While probably good for publicity, lol, an international incident is not something Adam needs

    and yay for aussie x-factor….

  16. just saw Darius Rucker on GMA. He was great (and I hate country). He’s the type of artist (just like Bruno Mars) who I could see coming out of Idol. Why can’t Idol find (or create) the breakout stars anymore?

I like Darius too but he really isn’t a breakout artist (don’t get me started on the BNA win last year) but I don’t think Idol will see these kind of artists as the seem to be stuck on the Pop/mainstream star image.

  17. Maybe I’m paranoid but it is interesting that ABC (who banned Adam) would highlight a story that “shows” his type of entertainment is not welcome in other places. Kind of covering your Ass.

I also found it ironic that ABC was reporting on this, but I had kind of a different take: I’m wondering if they might now feel a little foolish that their television network acted in a way similar to what most here in the US would consider extremist behavior. I mean, Akon’s show being stopped for what they considered to be improper is not so dissimilar to Adam’s being pulled from scheduled performances on ABC — and, two years later, he still hasn’t performed live on ABC, has he?

  18. Just think everyone….Adam’s concert after Malaysia is New Zealand…they love him there. I find it ironic he’ll go from there to the country who’s current Adam single is “Fever”. I have a feeling NZ will be one hell of a show.

Okay — the two quietest people in Adam’s crew are the ones with airport troubles. Poor guys.

  19. among the guidelines were that the singer should dress appropriately and refrain from performing indecent acts like removing his clothes during the performance.

Yeah, we WISH he would remove his clothes! He just puts more on, LOL.
lorismile- I agree, the tension is reminiscent of his Idol run and his performances right after the AMA’s, haha. Anticipation plus a little bit of queasiness.

I may be the only one who cares but Justin Guarini is in the cast of Woman on the Verge of A Nervous Breakdown. That’s a big Bway show that’s currently in previews. I’m impressed he got the gig.

I care! :D I love Justin and wish him great success! <3

  22. I like Darius too but he really isn’t a breakout artist (don’t get me started on the BNA win last year) but I don’t think Idol will see these kind of artists as the seem to be stuck on the Pop/mainstream star image.

I like Darius as well, though I have to say other than a handful of tracks his first album was surprisingly dull for me.

I could possibly see someone like that breaking through someday on AI. He certainly has the type of big voice that makes an impression, going back to his Hootie days and now with the country songs.
    .

Not gonna touch the rest of it with the Islamists et al. But would that be true that they have a dancer (?) carrying around rifle rounds as part of Adam’s act? How would that even fit into the act?

  23. I mean, Akon’s show being stopped for what they considered to be improper is not so dissimilar to Adam’s being pulled from scheduled performances on ABC — and, two years later, he still hasn’t performed live on ABC, has he?

Wasn’t it last November that he was on the AMAs? It hasn’t been two years, it has been less than one. Or have I been asleep for a very long time?

  24. Adam has changed his avatar on Twitter. Check it out. I’m worried about him going there, I wish he would just cancel and move on to NZ where he is so loved. I hope he will perform on Aus X-Factor, I would love to see that. Just come home safe, Adam, please.

  25. I may be the only one who cares but Justin Guarini

The only thing that sticks with me about Justin is the fact he is related to Whitney Houston…even his time on Idol is just a blur. I never understood why they were reporting that women were drooling over him back then.

But heh, since I loves me some Broadway I say kudos to Justin for landing this gig. I have the most respect for anyone that can perform on Broadway…that takes great talent. (And I will forever hate Simon for his Broadway soundbites…now there is a whole generation that will forever equate with “bad performing”. C’mn Simon, bad performing is the drek I’m used to seeing on the X factor.

  26. Wasn’t it last November that he was on the AMAs? It hasn’t been two years, it has been less than one. Or have I been asleep for a very long time?

You’re right — I don’t know where my brain went! Thanks for the correction!

  27. But would that be true that they have a dancer (?) carrying around rifle rounds as part of Adam’s act? How would that even fit into the act?

i’m not sure, and someone would probably know better than me, but i think it was just a bracelet….some sort of a piece of jewelry that had been made of rifle rounds

  28. i’m not sure, and someone would probably know better than me, but i think it was just a bracelet….some sort of a piece of jewelry that had been made of rifle rounds

It was just a bracelet — they show it on one of those news videos.

  29. Woman on the Verge of A Nervous Breakdown is a great gig. Congrats Justin!

  30. Pepsi?!?! Simon, I am really starting to question your judgement. Coke is 5 times superior lol.

  31. I assume Adam & crew will have extra security for their show in Malaysia and will tone down the set — too bad for the fans, but better safe than sorry (to use a wornout cliche). Glad to hear Taylor wasn’t arrested. Did they confiscate the bracelet?

Happy to hear Kris has been in the studio during his break from touring. He had said that he had some songs ready to be demoed, so this is a good sign that he should be able to start recording his 2nd album shortly after his upcoming tour ends (after he takes a nice vacation, hopefully)

Good for Justin for landing that Broadway role. Has he done much acting before? (and no, I’m not counting that ridiculous movie he and Kelly made :) )?

Nice to see some Casey news after people yesterday were wondering what was going on with him.

  32. I love Pepsi and can’t stand Coke. But I always thought that whatever was in the Coke cups the judges had to have in front of them was probably not actually soda :)

  33. Those PAS morons are just a bunch of lunatics, just trying to gain political mileage so just ignore them folks.

On a lighter note, hey guys, I am flying down to KL this Thursday to catch Adam live! I will finally get to experience what so many of you here already had – watch him live! I’m super excited! :)

I will come back with a recap and hopefully some pics and videos (but no guarantees though as it says no cameras allowed into the concert venue). Shall try my luck. :(

  34. The Malaysian fundamentalist rhetoric reminds me of the US fundamentalist rhetoric. Both groups talk about the dire spread of “gay culture,” for one.

Hate even saying it, but I hope that he plays it safe in Malaysia. I’m sure he will. He knows the cultures he’s performing for. He played it safer in the US (mostly) than he did in Japan, for instance.

  35. Those PAS morons are just a bunch of lunatics, just trying to gain political mileage so just ignore them folks.

    Agree.
PAS are like the Westboro fringe- good at talk and making headlines but not much else.
The vast majority of people there are rational live and let live types.

He’s in more danger walking down the street in Anytown USA.

  36. Hate even saying it, but I hope that he plays it safe in Malaysia. I’m sure he will. He knows the cultures he’s performing for. He played it safer in the US (mostly) than he did in Japan, for instance.

Nashville was quite chaste ;) damn

  37. Tweet from Adam’s sound man:

    WARNWILLIS

We picked this guy up at the manila airport jail and asked him to dance.. We have ALL arrived in Hong Kong, safely

  38. I am kind of torn part of me feels don’t back down Adam play the concert another part of me thinks he should cancel his concert in Malaysia to be safe. Extremist anywhere is not safe and there is no telling how far some of these people will go. I am worried to say the least.

Going overseas is a little more risky, but we have our own brand of fundamentalist crazies that protest concerts right here in the US. For some reason we don’t find our own crazies as threatening.

  39. Happy to hear Kris has been in the studio during his break from touring. He had said that he had some songs ready to be demoed, so this is a good sign that he should be able to start recording his 2nd album shortly after his upcoming tour ends (after he takes a nice vacation, hopefully)

It would be great if they get him moving quickly to release a second album. IMO they waited too long with the S7 guys. Strike while the iron is hot, I say.

  40. It would be great if they get him moving quickly to release a second album. IMO they waited too long with the S7 guys. Strike while the iron is hot, I say.

YES! I’m glad Kris is in the studio, and I’m glad that Adam’s talking about a spring/summer album. It’s silly to wait too long to release a second album. Yes, quality is important, but losing presence on the radio and in popular culture are as important.

  41. Going overseas is a little more risky, but we have our own brand of fundamentalist crazies that protest concerts right here in the US. For some reason we don’t find our own crazies as threatening.

I guess it goes with the adage “go with the crazy you know!” :-) but you’re right ;-)

  42. Maybe I’m paranoid but it is interesting that ABC (who banned Adam) would highlight a story that “shows” his type of entertainment is not welcome in other places. Kind of covering your Ass.

Back during the AMA event, there were a lot of posters that were giving ABC crap about Adam, but ABC is not the prude some people make them out to be. I had been watching Greek on ABC Family for at least two years before Adam even auditioned for American Idol.

The show is about Greek life on college campuses and has had gay relationships as the main story line on several occasions. One of the principle characters is now in a steady relationship which shows the normal ups and downs that goes on between two people in a relationship. They’ve shown the guys kissing and waking up in the same bed. These are real relationships and not just guys having a drunken night out and finding themselves waking up with a guy for the comedic aspect.

I left it alone at the time, because so many weren’t up to hearing that at that time.

  43. My thoughts on the ammunition bracelet in todays society is that it probably will always be in poor taste. I think one would have to know that it would be looked at suspuciously, because on first site who would know the weren’t live.

I do wonder who did the vetting for this trip that they wouldn’t have taken precautions to avoid this.

ETA: re Michael Sarver, I wonder if the ship has sailed on radio for him. Consodering that he has talked about the Christmas album more than his Country album.

  44. mj:
    10/11/2010 at 12:07 pm

Michael Sarver is on twitter right now begging his fans to spam radio stations. EEP.

That is pretty darn odd considering they never appeared to even put his single up for an official add date on country radio. And he hasn’t done anything that looked serious to promote it for a couple of months now. He’s been using his twitter to talk about the Christmas album, his prepping for appearance dates with some of the other AI personalities again, and his own handful of concert dates. With a couple of very recent exceptions, most of his live performances have been in churches which hasn’t seemed like a great way to connect with country music listeners or country radio.

The Ferris Wheel song was cute but it’s hardly seasonal at this point for country radio. Gaah. I want to root for someone like him to make good. But really don’t get what is up with him.

If someone is advising him, they seem to be doing a pretty poor job.

  45. Regarding ABC news reporting on the religious conservatives in Malaysia…
If Adam’s show goes on there, as I think it will, then that country pays less attention to their conservatives than ABC did here. ABC cancelled his performances outright. Scary. I’m just sayin’ :?

  46. Happy to hear Kris has been in the studio during his break from touring. He had said that he had some songs ready to be demoed, so this is a good sign that he should be able to start recording his 2nd album shortly after his upcoming tour ends (after he takes a nice vacation, hopefully)

I second this! But bleh, I wish something could get leaked. Also, glad to have Casey news!

  47. If Adam’s show goes on there, as I think it will, then that country pays less attention to their conservatives than ABC did here. ABC cancelled his performances outright. Scary. I’m just sayin’ :?

I don’t think you can compare; His AMA performance was on national TV and a part of an award show (primetime here in the Midwest) and the Malaysia concert is a private concert people pay to see. IMO, I really don’t think those religious conservatives compare to ours………

I think their team is prepared that they will encounter scenarios like this. Hopefully!

  48. If Adam’s show goes on there, as I think it will, then that country pays less attention to their conservatives than ABC did here. ABC cancelled his performances outright.

I don’t think that was about heeding conservatives as much as he went off script on live TV and exposed them to possible FCC fines. ABC was pretty pissed at him over that.

And no, I’m not making any statements that what he did SHOULD be open to fines or anything, but ABC has a lot of gay-friendly stuff on its airwaves. They don’t usually have a problem ignoring conservatives when it comes to that.

Anyway, I don’t think anything is going to come of this Malaysia thing except he’ll get some additional publicity there. And here too for that matter.

Casey had spent the day over at his best friend Jake’s house and watched the Texas – Oklahoma college football game.

My husband used to go to that game every year. It is a madhouse! LOL

Casey and Crystal are the S9 CDs I’m looking forward to most. He sounds excited. I can’t wait! I’m so curious.

Oh, and Rick Fox? Feel free to dance without pants if you must. I won’t mind. Just sayin’.

  49. Gay freindly scripted/edited stuff is one thing. Trying to ruin a guy’s budding career is another. It’s kind of like talking the talk but not walking the walk.

What Adam did on the AMA’s was only called out because it was guy on guy. It was our U.S. style Taliban that complained to the FCC and ABC. And they got action. They’re pretty powerful and I think it’s scary.

Grr.

I care! I absolutely LOVE that movie! Can’t wait to hear the reviews for the Broadway show, especially since it involves an OG Idol, hehe. Maybe there will be video soon.

Also, about Darius: he’s got a great voice, and I find myself enjoying his country music despite not being a country fan overall. Maybe it’s high school memories of Hootie and the Blowfish in his voice or something.

Nice to see some Casey news after people yesterday were wondering what was going on with him.

I agree. Great article, and now I fell more confident than ever that CJB is going to put out something really special. More and more it seems like BNA is starting from scratch here, treating them like any other new act, rather than simply relying on the Idol tag. Keep on truckin’, Casey!

  51. I may be the only one who cares but Justin Guarini is in the cast of Woman on the Verge of A Nervous Breakdown. That’s a big Bway show that’s currently in previews. I’m impressed he got the gig.

It’s a big fucking deal. I am glad for him. I hated him on the show, but somehow wound up with his cd and absolutely loved it. He’s very talented and sorta cute too. I wish him big success as I love to see idols do well, especially the much maligned ones, such as Justin. As for him being related to Whitney, I missed that one. I thought he was related to Samuel L. Jackson’s wife, via his Dad. Oh well, not a biggie anyway, lol.

  52. Tess:

The only thing that sticks with me about Justin is the fact he is related to Whitney Houston…even his time on Idol is just a blur. I never understood why they were reporting that women were drooling over him back then.

Actually he’s related to Samuel Jackson :D
Justin was a huge part of creating the buzz for American Idol as the show began. Paula was drooling over him. The girls in his group were in love with him. The girls in the audience went crazy for him. Either he or Tamyra were expected to win. He had some really strong performances early on. Then as the season continued he went downhill in the judge’s estimations (Randy & Simon) – plus who can ever forget his abomination of PYT. Kelly Clarkson with no hype or pimping but with amazing performances slowly inched her way to the top until her popularity gathered into an avalanche and she won the show. Justin suffered the disrespect of the male judges and the atrocity of From Justin to Kelly. Immediately following AI he had a ton of interest and offers. But Justin was the AI runner up guinea pig and TPTB did everything wrong. His fans had to wait until the end of season 2 at the height of Clay and Ruben’s popularity before an album released. By that time, the time for iron striking had passed and Justin became known as a failure and Sideshow Bob. I felt really bad for him, so I’m glad he’s been able to make a living in “showbiz” and hope to hear him sing something contemporary someday.

  53. Gay freindly scripted/edited stuff is one thing. Trying to ruin a guy’s budding career is another. It’s kind of like talking the talk but not walking the walk.

Gay friendly scripted/edited stuff is one thing. It’s intentional. The station is intentionally and with forethought specifically deciding to be gay friendly. No question about it.

If it was some spontaneous thing by an artist they don’t control, it’s a lot less their intent. So, I’m totally confused. I could see ABC being called gay unfriendly if they allowed Adam’s AMA performance but didn’t allow intentional, planned broadcast of gay friendly material. I just cannot see the opposite.

I’m not going to rehash the AMAs, but I agree with tinawina’s view of things.

I don’t for a moment think that ABC was trying to destroy Adam’s career. They were just not going to give him an avenue to perform live on their shows (I think it was a message to all artists not to go off script). If they wanted to destroy his career, they would have been a lot more active (and banned him from the ABC shows he did appear on). And, if that was their goal, they failed because we are regularily informed that he is an International recording star.

It was our U.S. style Taliban that complained to the FCC and ABC.

With all due respect, I think that this minimizes what the Taliban did/does compared to people writing angry e-mails to the FCC. I wish the Taliban just wrote angry e-mails.

Malaysia is a relatively moderate Islamic country, but it wasn’t too long ago (2000) that the Prime Minister managed to get rid of one of his rivals by having them thrown in jail on trumped up charges of having gay sex. It’s been a long while in the US since something like that happened.

  54. Justin suffered the disrespect of the male judges and the atrocity of From Justin to Kelly.

I didn’t understand why everyone was so down on Justin for the movie, but not Kelly. I found Justin to be much more at ease in front of the camera. He was a bit hammy, but the script called for it. Kelly, OTOH, seemed to be lost and unsure. If a career tanks because of a dumb movie, I’d figure both J&K would have went down for the count. That didn’t happen, obviously.

  55. With all due respect, I think that this minimizes what the Taliban did/does compared to people writing angry e-mails to the FCC. I wish the Taliban just wrote angry e-mails.

I believe people writing disapproving emails is called free speech, an American right. Emails by fans disapproving of ABC’s actions would be the same; just because you agree with one and not the other doesn’t make it Taliban action.

  56. Emails by fans disapproving of ABC’s actions would be the same; just because you agree with one and not the other doesn’t make it Taliban action

I agree totally. Dueling e-mails are fine and the right of both parties. The fans have just as much a right to write an e-mail as anybody else.

I’m not the one equating writing complaint emails to public executions, stonings, banning the education of women and world-wide terrorism. I agree with John Stewart’s campaign to try to reduce the extreme rhetoric colouring politics these days.

  57. Okay, I don’t want to get in a political discussion. I’ll save it for another blog. Just one thing in my defense…I don’t think sending an email equates to Taliban practices. I think imposing a religious group’s ideas of BEHAVIOR on a society is what the Taliban does. I could bring up some very unsavory tactics our wing-nut zealots in the U.S. have used but let’s not go there. I agree with the right to email on both sides. It’s the resulting actions taken that I found weak. So I think ABC reporting on the goings on in Malaysia are ironic. They find themselves in questionable company.

  58. I still think that it is a myth that most people were primarily offended by the guy/guy thing. My 7 & 9 year old boys(HUGE Adam fans) and I were offended by the terrible singing, tacky costumes, amateuristic choreography, and underlying tone of sexual violence. Let’s not mince words – it was a trainwreck. Certainly when compared to anything Adam has done before or since. It was beneath him – by miles. Hell, the only thing that I DIDN’T have to complain about re. Adam’s AMA performance was the Tommy kiss – that was hot and well-executed.

  59. I love the look on the little boy’s face in the airport video. He’s off to the side as Adam walks through the airport. I just want to hug him!!

Sasha does not seem interested at all….LOL
I always wonder what Neil thinks about all this.

  60. So I think ABC reporting on the goings on in Malaysia are ironic. They find themselves in questionable company.

I really don’t get that. It’s a news story… so a news outlet would report it?

Well I have to disagree….So scripted not real life gay scenarios is ok but real life actual gay kiss and other things that other Straight performers do is not. Sounds discriminating to me. I don’t see how you say the fantasy is ok but the real life acts are crude and improper. I won’t rehash this either as I don’t think anything is going to change anyone minds but I do think it seems much easier for those who are not gay to see this as ok. I appreciate that ABC has many shows on Gay relationships-one sided hetro-centric views but views none the less. I guess I am a little tired to be told I should be happy at what exposure I get to see on television that supposedly represents me. Scripted is not real life. AMA was real. As far as it was really a gay man kissing another man. How can you accept one without the other. So I don’t fully understand your viewpoint but I would guess you don’t really understand mind. (now this is just a guess as I really don’t know and you could fully understand me. Which I guess would make you as wonderful as I think you are. :-) ) Anyway this is just my view. No better and no worse then anyone else. :-)

ETA I release you didn’t say anything that the act on AMA was crude or improper. I was really referring to the complaints. Don’t want to put words in your mouth. Sorry. I was using creative License but I want to be fair I think you only said he went off script. Which again I think is just a cover up on their part to hide that they feel what was done was crude and improper. NOT YOU!

  62. suenigma – bad singing and bad costumes and sexual themes don’t get you banned from ABC. (even beating up your girlfriend doesn’t seem to be a problem.) I’m just sayin’.

  63. Not the AMAs! Noooooo. At this point, that is even beyond macaroni art to me.

Anyhew, I think Adam will do the Malaysian show, and it will be fine. He probably will tone it down, and that’s a wise decision. Then he goes to NZ and Australia where he can do shows that aren’t as toned down, and that will also be fine. And yeah, his doing a guest spot on the Australian AI would be cool. It’s just a rumor now, it seems, so who knows if it will happen. But I hope it does, because that would be cool.

I am one of those people wishing Justin well. I will admit I liked him on this season of AI. Though I was rooting for Kelly exclusively FTW after her Stuff Like That There, but I still hoped he would do well after the show. So yeah, hope he does a good job, and is received well in this role, and as I adore Almodovar, I hope this play reflects well on his work.

  64. suenigma – bad singing and bad costumes and sexual themes don’t get you banned from ABC.

Yes, but being gifted with the plum closing spot on a major show that you had done nothing yet to earn (let’s face it, other than being talked about – he had done nothing to earn it musically or sales-wise, he hadn’t had a chance) and then going off script and risking fines and literally and figuratively throwing up the middle finger… that will get you banned, at least in this case. I think it was a smack on his hand, and a warning for other artists. Maybe I oversimplify, but I just didn’t see it as much deeper than that. And was he really banned from ABC? I don’t follow him closely enough to know.

  65. Anyhew, I think Adam will do the Malaysian show, and it will be fine. He probably will tone it down, and that’s a wise decision. Then he goes to NZ and Australia where he can do shows that aren’t as toned down, and that will also be fine.

That’s probably about it. It’s important to understand where you are, and I think they’ll respect that. And then they can go to NZ and Australia and go wild. Though I would say in a chiding way to people going on flights, especially international… don’t wear bullet/ammo jewelry, k? It’s bound to get people a little upset in this climate of unease.

  66. Point taken sunsister, but telling the Producers of the AMA’s that you are going to do one thing, and then doing something different, just might. I believe that in the Network’s statements the issue of homosexuality was never raised. Aggressively shoving your hand and face in another person’s crotch (regardless of gender) and giving the audience the finger might be legitimately considered bannable offenses as well.

ETA: I am not trying to attack Adam, as I think he is beyond talented and this was just a rare bad decision on his part. A minor blip in what is sure to be a stellar career trajectory. I just hate when his admitted error in judgment and taste are turned into a political and religious “Cause”. It’s not that big of a deal, IMO.

  67. Scripted is not real life. AMA was real.

But there WAS a script, right? Wasn’t that the whole flap? He didn’t stick with what he did in rehearsal? I don’t know much about awards shows, but they sure seem to get upset when people go off what they were expecting :) (laughing a bit thinking of all those poor souls who try to talk too long and the band kicks in and drowns them out)

  68. Anyway, moving on. ABC reporting on the call for the show to be cancelled……All publicity is good publicity. Can we agree on that? Truce?

  69. The only one trying to kill a career with the AMA performance was Adam. Professionals do not perform one way in rehearsal and another way on live TV. He came out of the box with buzz off Idol, fortunate to have a showcase at the AMAs, and showed himself as someone who could NOT be trusted in a live setting.

It’s ABC’s reputation, their air and their responsibility to the FCC for licensing. The FCC take its cue from the Public. He shamefully tried to spin it as anti-gay but there were gays unhappy with Adam too. It wasn’t just favorite whipping-boy “conservatives” who were unhappy with Adam’s antics which included a bad vocal and theme of sexual violence.

As for ABC’s alleged homophobia, GLAAD’s report on the networks said: “ABC did lead the broadcast networks in total hours of LGBT inclusion. Of its 1147 total hours of primetime programming, 297.5 (26%) included LGBT impressions” and the ’09-10 season was the first year they were not the top network in percentage. They were edged out by The CW which run far fewer programming hours.

  70. It would be great if they get him moving quickly to release a second album. IMO they waited too long with the S7 guys. Strike while the iron is hot, I say.

I don’t think that’s the case. The problem with S7 guys was that, they had no radio presence forover a year and that’s not good. I don’t think there’s the need to rush and Kris had said numerous times that they want to take their time and get something good and solid out. I think 2yrs interval is an ideal time for him to follow up his first.

He just needs to have songs on radio whiles he prepares for that. AWM is being released soon and no one knows how far it could go.
I’m assuming if it does really well peaks fast, they could follow it up with another song before they touch the next era. I strongly believe WAOMF has a shot, that is if he’s going for a fall release for his album.

See I know what your saying and I don’t fully disagree but Janet simulating a hand job was ok because it was scripted. Really? and Eminem saying that he raped 17 woman was ok because it was part of the script and used about every 4 letter word known to man. Really Really…The guns by Rhianna was ok because it was part of her script really really. I see this more as the excuse to cover up the truth. I maybe wrong and believe me I really hope I am. I much prefer that I am overly sensitive then to be right. I think it really is somewhere in the middle.

Anyway that was the past I am more concerned about now and his stint in Malaysia. Like I said before they will do far more then ban him from a few shows. So I hope we do get Track of My tears Adam. I don’t want him to hide who he is but again know your surroundings and play it safe. AMA was mild compared to what can be done in some of these foreign countries. I hope everyone has an enjoyable time. :-)

  72. Adam always seems to be able to turn seemingly negative events into positive outcomes; the AMA controversy may have hurt him at the time, especially in sales to conservative leaning AI viewers, but it increased his world wide fame. I’m sure the Malaysian protests will do the same.
I’m also sure Adam will be sensitive to the circumstances and put on a slightly tamer show.
If Adam had worn a suit and tie, stayed in the closet, and put out a Josh Groban type album or even a Susan Boyle type album of covers, he probably would have sold much more. But I’m so glad he didn’t!

  73. See I know what your saying and I don’t fully disagree but Janet simulating and hand job was ok because it was scripted. Really and Eminem saying that he raped 17 woman was ok because it was part of the script.

Well, I honestly think part of that (and Rhianna too) is that they are huge, established stars. So I’m sure that part of why they were so mad is that Adam was new, and who did he think he was? I don’t think that’s out of the realm of possibility. I’m certainly not saying that other stuff is ok (I can’t even let my kids listen to half the stuff on Top 40 radio) but I think his being brand new and getting that opportunity and then biting the hand that fed him had something to do with it.

I think your wrong there….Have you heard of The Doors the Beatles Madonna, Queen, Rolling Stones, David Bowie….and so many I can’t list them all. Everyone of these performers did things that was not part of the “script” for appearance they had on television. I don’t think it hurt their careers. (This was all in the beginning of their careers). Just keeping this all in perspective. :-)

  75. For FYD, if show order determined success, how did Nicolo, who performed much later, end up with the lowest votes of all contestants?

They’re deluding themselves. The harmonies were worse than One Direction which hadn’t been together long. FYD had no X-Factor.

Perennial boyband manager Louis saw they had nothing going on and gave them the ax over Katie. Even Simon heavily praised Katie’s performance but backed FYD specifically because they were his act.

  76. Not the AMAs! Noooooo. At this point, that is even beyond macaroni art to me.

You ain’t never lied. I’m sorry I ever responded to the OP. LOL. I need to do penance to the Idol board gods. Maybe I’ll burn a picture of Amanda Overmyer or something. Heh

For the record, I do not give a shit about the AMAs. :D

  77. You ain’t never lied. I’m sorry I ever responded to the OP. LOL. I need to do penance to the Idol board gods or something. Maybe I’ll burn a picture of Amanda Overmyer or something. Heh

Say three Juanita Barbers and an Our Simon and all will be forgiven.

Sorry for the bad catholic joke everyone

  78. Pepsi is much better than Coke… you guys are soooooo wrong !!! LOL

So which cell carrier will XFactor be sponsored by.. I vote Verizon!

  79. Is anyone else as frightened by those X-Factor clips as I am? I am not ready for that level of low grade cheese. LOL. Its not even so-good-its-bad type cheese, like say Cheez-wiz… that’s some good bad cheese right there. This is like smelly mouldy munster or therabouts. Boo.

Oh, and when does Lee’s single leak again? Its this week right?

I didn’t mean to connect Lee to bad cheese, BTW. LOL

Say three Juanita Barbers and an Our Simon and all will be forgiven.

    LMAO!

  80. I didn’t mean to connect Lee to bad cheese, BTW. LOL

    LOL honey its all CHEESE!

  81. Pepsi is much better than Coke… you guys are soooooo wrong !!! LOL

Koshka I am so disgusted right now. There are no words…

  82. You ain’t never lied. I’m sorry I ever responded to the OP. LOL. I need to do penance to the Idol board gods. Maybe I’ll burn a picture of Amanda Overmyer or something. Heh

Now what did Amanda do to deserve burning of her picture…..LOL I personally have paid my penance by offering Scott McIntyre memorabilia and singing No Boundaries 10 time in a row….

I swear never to fall for the AMA goading again. Oh wise Idol board Gods

  83. Oh, and when does Lee’s single leak again? Its this week right?

    It leaks on Wednesday.

  84. AMA was real. As far as it was really a gay man kissing another man. How can you accept one without the other. So I don’t fully understand your viewpoint but I would guess you don’t really understand mind.

But the AMA’s didn’t edit Adam’s kiss on the west coast which indicates they don’t have a problem with men kissing (Barbara Walters and CBS might, but the AMAs and ABC did not). They appear to agree with you. If they had edited out the kiss, I would agree with you.

I’ve seen a few performances from Adam and I’ve never seen Tommy on the keyboards when their normal keyboardist was available. The keyboardist was there that night. I think it quite likely that the kiss was always planned. Adam had all his soundbites ready for that. The AMAs kept trumping that something was coming up with Adam’s performance. Tommy was in the perfect position for a kiss. ABC did not edit the kiss that night. They edited out the forced grinding (by all accounts that was not previously cleared with the dancer in question or ABC) and the finger (both feeds).

So, that’s my viewpoint. I don’t think the AMA had a problem with the kiss or they would have edited it (and I think they may have actually planned it). I don’t think shoving the face of an unsuspecting dancer into the bosses privates and grinding has anything to do with being gay (and is with off-script by all accounts). And I’ve seen people of all persuasions flipping the bird. ABC knew that Adam was gay and gave him a primo performance spot. I just don’t see them as being anti-gay. Are they perfect? No. I think that they just didn’t like the off-script portions of the performance. If they let Adam get away with it one year, what will artists try the next? They need to vet the performances and agree to what they are signing up for. I don’t see why ABC gets all the heat and CBS gets a total pass. They did edit the kiss.

  85. the AMA controversy may have hurt him at the time, especially in sales to conservative leaning AI viewers, but it increased his world wide fame.

    Exactly!!! :-)
Personally, I think it’s going to be a great footnote in Adam’s career.

  86. Koshka, are you serious? It is not open to opinion. It is an empirically proven FACT that Coke is better than Pepsi. End of story.

  87. Koshka, are you serious? It is not open to opinion. It is an empirically proven FACT that Coke is better than Pepsi. End of story.

I know. One time I was at a bar and wanted a rum and coke, and they asked if Pepsi was okay. I walked out of that dump immediately.

  88. So, that’s my viewpoint. I don’t think the AMA had a problem with the kiss or they would have edited it (and I think they may have actually planned it). 89. I’m not the one equating writing complaint emails to public executions, stonings, banning the education of women and world-wide terrorism. I agree with John Stewart’s campaign to try to reduce the extreme rhetoric colouring politics these days.

Thank God you’re not! However, it is possible to see similarities in the two situations if we look beyond complaint letters and honor killings.

What is fascinating for me in the Malaysian fundamentalist Muslim response is its rhetorical similarity to the American fundamentalist Christian response when it comes to gays. Both believe in the existence of a gay culture antithetical to the Holy Book and to society at large. Both believe that this gay culture can spread, like a disease. Both believe that Adam, and other out gay performers, are somehow out to spread the culture.

The political situation in the US and in Malaysia is, obviously, quite different. There is a fascinating similarity, though, in the fact that in both states a strongly religious group is trying to get the views of its holy book encoded in the laws of the state.

In both nations, it’s very easy for someone like Adam to get caught in the mess which ensues. I sincerely hope that Adam is careful, and gets the hell out of Malaysia as soon as the performance is over.

    imo.

  90. For the record, I do not give a shit about the AMAs.

I’d like to be a card-carrying member of that club if you’re taking applications.

Say three Juanita Barbers and an Our Simon and all will be forgiven.

Sorry for the bad catholic joke everyone

On behalf of the Catholics in my house, I wish to say LMFAO :).

Didn’t we settle this Coke vs. Pepsi business in the 80’s? (I like my Captain with Diet Coke, fyi).

I’m wondering now if repeated references to the Taliban are going to bring about some unsavory visitors to mj’s. LOL

  91. Koshka, are you serious? It is not open to opinion. It is an empirically proven FACT that Coke is better than Pepsi. End of story.

Thanks mj! Well on Wednesday, the first S9 shot will officially be fired! Let the games begin.

(Okay Scott fans, don’t kill me! Its just jokes. :D)

  92. I know. One time I was at a bar and wanted a rum and coke, and they asked if Pepsi was okay. I walked out of that dump immediately.

Ha ha ha ha…..I can’t stop laughing…..I can’t breath…..This was hysterical….. (my apologies to the Scott Fans too….Just having some laughs)

Word. If I ask for a diet Coke and they ask if Pepsi is okay, I ask for an Iced Tea, because no, it’s not okay.

So Simon is not getting me on the American X-Factor side if he’s going down the Pepsi path.

Okay, it’s not that big a deal, but I’ll still rather talk about soft drinks, than the AMAs. I feel the soft drink question is more relevant, and less annoying. Of course there is the next question of do you call it pop, soda or Coke. Having spent time mostly in the Midwest, I am mostly a “pop” girl, but having spent sometime growing up in California, I sometimes call it soda. I have no “Coke” as catchall, experience.

Or something loosely sounding like “Co-Cola” for my North Carolina cousins. Whether that’s a Carolina thing or a cousins on the farm thing, don’t know. What I *do* know is that you only used to get Cheerwine there (Salisbury, NC) and now you can get it here and that makes me glad. Please don’t shoot Scott memorabilia at me if you hate Cheerwine. I respect your right to hate it and I promise not to try to write letters to enact any sort of forcible Cheerwine-drinking laws.

  101. I believe that in the Network’s statements the issue of homosexuality was never raised.

Well except for blurring out the Adam/Tommy kiss in subsequent reports, which I believe all the networks did.

I also was more disappointed by the vocal and his fall was unfortunate. The kiss was hot. Liked the silver suit too ;) I’d say it is water under the bridge, but clearly it isn’t. And if news outlets are going to run the protest stories, I sure wish they’d get it right. 75+ US concerts, 1 kiss with a female fan, 1 kiss with a male fan. Numerous kisses with pretty bassist who is the androgynous keyboard player from the AMAs and not a dancer. Poor Tommy gets no acknowledgement ;)

I guess I call all colas Coke. Like Kleenex.

  102. Well I am sorta confused on the subject them since I detest Coke but love diet Coke, and love Pepsi but detest Diet Pepsi

Wow smeggingnuts, that is confused. I recommend intensive therapy.

  103. Been gone flogging myself. Gotta remember when I’m on a political site and when I’m on a fan site.

Aww its okay. No harm no foul. **hugs**

Of course there is the next question of do you call it pop, soda or Coke.

Oh geesh, I HATE “pop”. I don’t know why. I grew up in the NE calling it soda, and pop is just irritating to me. Makes me think of my grandpa. I’m not drinking my grandpa. Of course now I am in the midwest being driven crazy by the use of the phrase. Ugh.

    LMAO @ gangreen

  104. I’m so going to blow your mind.

    Sodapop

Well my mind is not blown, as I’ve done that a few times myself. I was young, and experimenting.

  105. Of course there is the next question of do you call it pop, soda or Coke

Pop or soda. A Coke is a Coke.

I think X-Factor should go with Pepsi. Pepsi is every bit is sugary and superficial as X-Factor (which is a bit more sugary and artificial thank Coke). I think they should feud in every possible way. AI uses blue fonts? X-Factor uses red. AI films at the Nokia? X-Factor films at the Kodak. AI gives out iPods to its audiences? X-Factor gives out…er…Sony Mp3 players. Ryan drives a Mercedes. X-Factor host drives a Lexus. AI uses AT&T? X-Factor uses Sprint (or whoever still exists as a carrier). Randy wears Armani suits? Simon wears a t-shirt he borrowed from his mechanic. Think of the product placement bonanza and everybody arguing whether Rolexes are better than Piagets!

LOL!!!! Wait… Scott has memorabilia? And you OWN some?

I’ve got some Bobby Bennet memorobilia (think S5, the dude who sang “Copacabbana” for his grandma and got booted the next day). A friend sent it to me as a joke and I never got around to throwing it away. I swear, I’m going to end up on an episode of hoarders one day.

  106. So is the X-Factor Australia gig for Adam still a rumor or has it been verified?

  107. I would imagine that Malaysia’s requests about on stage dress are standard. They have certain cultural requirements that any visitor to the country, who is sensitive to different cultures, would respect.

It’s not as though they’re asking anyone to wear a burqua (if that’s how you spell it).

  108. On another note – I’m glad to see that I’m not the only person who refuses to drink anything other than Coca-cola.

So – who does drink Pepsi!!??

So is the X-Factor Australia gig for Adam still a rumor or has it been verified?

It as supposedly announced at the end of the this last weeks results show…easy enough to confirm if you can find the episode

  110. On Twitter (and I KNOW, you can’t really count on Twitter being any kind of reputable source), there’s a link to a tabloid claiming Adam’s Malaysia concert has been canceled. I’m inclined to believe it’s just incorrect reporting, but I was wondering what others have heard.

So – who does drink Pepsi!!??

I drink nothing but Pepsi. If I’m getting food from a fast food restaurant that has Coke products, I’ll opt for water instead and, if time permits, make a separate stop at a quick-mart of some type or take a run through Taco Bell for my Pepsi fix.
ETA – I’m talking Diet Pepsi; Both Coke and Pepsi are too sweet for me.

  111. Pop or soda. A Coke is a Coke

Not in the US South. Where you ask for a Coke, then they asked which kind. Coke is, or at least was, a generic term for soda/pop/sodapop there.

ETA: The last map I saw about this Fizzy Beverage names abound!

  112. Love the map Truthi! I like how PA is evenly divided between Soda & Pop. I grew up in Eastern PA and only heard it called Soda until college – when I made some friends from Western PA who all said Pop. I was like “huh”? (I also didn’t know that American Cheese came in the “yellow” variety until then either. Apparently, the Lehigh Valley only had the white kind LOL).

I can only drink my Captain with Diet Coke. Don’t like regular Coke, and all of the pepsi varieties are vile to me. (Now, all of this talk is making me thirsty and I’m looking at the clock wondering if it’s too early for a cocktail!).

Also, if I see the words “Scott Macintyre” and “Billy Joel” in the same sentence again – there will be consequences!! :)

  113. (I also didn’t know that American Cheese came in the “yellow” variety until then either. Apparently, the Lehigh Valley only had the white kind LOL).

LOL, my husband is from Central PA and still refuses to eat yellow American cheese. He did introduce me to pierogies, though…

  114. Ugh.

LMAO – I so agree! Chiming in, I’m a diet coke fan myself. Regular coke makes my stomach burn.

“LOL, my husband is from Central PA and still refuses to eat yellow American cheese. He did introduce me to pierogies, though…”

I agree with your husband. As far as I’m concerned that is not real cheese!

  115. So – who does drink Pepsi!!??

I do. :) As soon as Coke went with that “New Coke” formula they lost me. I got hooked on Pepsi and never went back. Anyone remember Tab?

Oh, and when does Lee’s single leak again? Its this week right?

    It leaks on Wednesday.

    I love it.. planned leaks.

  117. Adam just tweeted

@adamlambert While I don’t believe that my glamnation tour is in any way offensive I have agreed to make a few minor adjustments out of respect for the Malaysian government. Looking forward to a fun show.

Does my show “promote the gay lifestyle”? It promotes living ANY lifestyle that includes the freedom to seek love and intimacy. Gay, straight, bi, young or old. It’s all inclusive.

  118. I drink Pepsi when I’m drinking soda. In cocktails, I will go with Coke (Jack & Coke, rum & coke, etc). But I can’t stand Coke by itself. As for diet soda — I don’t care if it is Pepsi, Coke, Tap, Sprite, 7-Up or whatever — just bleech!!! nonono.

  119. OK-looked at that map and saw a teeny yellow dot on the TN/GA border and another one further south, representing soda-clearly areas with a population of refugees from the North. All soft drinks are Cokes or cocola; I have never heard a southerner say the word soda.

News flash from Adam-he has agreed to make a few minor adjustments out of respect for the Malaysian government.

I say POP. And I like Diet Coke. Although I recently tried diet pepsi with Captain Morgan’s and actually liked it better than diet coke.

  121. Canned Pepsi is the best. Fountain Pepsi is usually bad. Diet anything is bad and kills your brain cells. I live in the midwest and I call drinks “pop”. Soda sounds weird.

Anyway, I’ll have to remember to show up on Wednesday for Lee’s song.

  122. I agree with your husband. As far as I’m concerned that is not real cheese!

    Amen to that.

koshka – I remember that Tab was my mom’s drink of choice when I was a kid.

OK-looked at that map and saw a teeny yellow dot on the TN/GA border and another one further south, representing soda-clearly areas with a population of refugees from the North.

LOL – I was wondering how they even picked a color for the area of FL I live in now. It’s nothing but Refugees from someplace else, so you hear all varieties here.

ETA: I think I’ve figured out why I like it here at mj’s so much. There’s a heavy concentration of Captian/rum drinkers here. I’ve found my peeps!!

  123. But what about the High Fructose Corn Syrup? ;)

Good for Adam. Pick and choose battles wisely and most importantly, stay out of jail.

  124. hehe

@adamlamber plus, what’s THE gay lifestyle? There isnt just one. There are so many different kinds of gay people. We have a variety of different lifestyles. There’s not only one lifestyle lived by straight folks. Generalizing….

  127. But what about the High Fructose Corn Syrup?

What’s truly funny is that both HFCS & soda are pretty much banned from my house (as much as possible). We only have soda here when we have parties. So, my kids think soda is just something grown-ups drink booze with LOL. When they go to summer camp, they’re shocked to see kids drinking soda with their lunch. Since I’ve never offered it to them, they’ve never really asked for it. They’ll have root beer once in a while in a restaurant. But, they’re never interested in cola of any kind – or god forbid Mountain Dew (a/k/a kiddie cocaine).

  128. I love it when he goes on his twitter sprees. :-)

    Really love his last one…

  129. Anyone remember Tab?

Tab, Tab Cola what a beautiful drink. Tab, Tab Cola for beautiful people. Tab, Tab Cola you look beautiful to me.

Anybody remember the painful jokes in Back to the Future featuring MJF trying to order “Pepsi Free” and “Tab” in the 50s diner? Just me?

    It leaks on Wednesday

Poe-tay-toe/Poe-tay-tah. I call it being released or premiered.

  130. koshka:
    Anyone remember Tab?

I have a 12-pack at home right now. Tab is so old-school, they haven’t changed the can design in a generation.

And give me a Diet Coke any day of the week over Diet Pepsi. Diet Pepsi is vile and not fit for human consumption. However, Wild Cherry Pepsi is OK if ice-cold.

Wild Cherry Pepsi (regular), Sierra Mist (regular or cranberry splash), and Mountain Dew (regular or Code Red) are the only decent Pepsi products. Everything else is AWFUL.

  131. or god forbid Mountain Dew (a/k/a kiddie cocaine).

    You ain’t neva lied. LOL

My kids are banned from soda too. The most they had ever had was the occasional ginger ale… until we went to a birthday party this summer and all they had for the kids to drink was soda. They both had Mountain Dew. Epic sugar rush ensued. Soda was promptly re-banned. :D

  132. I have a 12-pack at home right now. Tab is so old-school, they haven’t changed the can design in a generation.

LOL I didn’t know they still made Tab.

  133. Where I come from, high fructose corn syrup is a vegetable, like ketchup. Well, it has corn in it y’all.

    Thanks kvwicks13.
That’s another great review for Lee’s album-they’ve all been really positive so far. I’ll be listening Wed. for the premiere of the song on Ryan’s show. I’m sure it will be good because I love the pre-Idol songs he’s written.

  134. I grew up in Germany when you order there you order “Cola”, regardless of the brand. you want a diet, you order a Cola light.
Unless you ask, you don’t even know what “Cola” you get, Pepsi Cola or Coca Cola or Afri Cola or the-who-knows-what-brand Cola.
They may serve you a Pepsi Cola in a Coca Cola Glass…lol

  135. GreenHippo, and I bet the Cola is served room temperature, too. Eww!

ETA: Girlygirl–what’s so funny? I’m not on facebook, so can’t see!

  136. Why in the world do Europeans make you request ice when you order pop? Warm pop is the worst.

  137. @auspOp: @hotmud The X Factor said that Adam Lambert is performing on The X Factor (Australia) next week. Announced at the end of the show!

Well, that should be easy to check. You need to find torrent of the last X Factor Australia episode and download it.

Well I saw the X- Factor & don’t remember anything being said about this but that doesn’t mean he won’t be performing -just that Adam’s not on my radar!! Usually they say who is performing on the Sunday night show- that will be next Sunday.

Great to hear the positive news from Casey.

  138. hoosiermama

it’s photo of Kris “interviewing” his cardboard cutout

  139. Haha, Kirsten, that darn Tab jingle popped into my head too – my mom loved that stuff.

artemis, definitely all of my NC family calls it “cocola” and that doesn’t have to be Coke because I remember my aunt asking me if I liked “RC cocola.” :)

I think I might be terribly fan-envious that you Lee fans get a lead single he cowrote. Sniff. Isn’t this all exciting :)?

  140. So – who does drink Pepsi!!??

Me!!!!!!!! My husband drinks rum and pepsi. The only time I will drink coke is when pepsi is not available. :)

  141. Wow another Lee review that I love. Love that this review called the tracks “addictive and melodic”. I find it interesting that pretty much all the reviews used the word “surprising”. What the heck did they expect from him? Lol

  142. tierbee-I am hoping Lee’s co-write on his first single is a new idol trend
for RCA and that they will accord David Cook the same privilege when his second album comes out, because DC is a great songwriter.

  143. So – who does drink Pepsi!!??

I used to drink only pepsi. When I was pregnant with my 3rd child it made me sick every time I drank it :( I have not been able to drink it since, by association! I only drink Dr. Pepper now, but if I must have a cola, I choose coke.

  144. GreenHippo, and I bet the Cola is served room temperature,

yep with 1 or 2 ice cubes in it. Yes, you get more Cola for your money and not a glass full of ice with a drop of cola in it….. hehehehehe

  145. SpenserJ:
    10/11/2010 at 4:35 pm
But what about the High Fructose Corn Syrup?

I’m with you SpenserJ… They can advertise whatever pop/soda they want. I think more and more people are realizing what that stuff is made of and buying a lot less of it.

  146. Well we didn’t have sugar in my house growing up. Only honey. So the only times we had pop/soda/coke was sometimes when we had tummy problems, some ginger ale was allowed. By middle school we could have soda/pop/coke, as long as it was 7up, so no caffine, or artifical colours. I think it wasn’t until like high school that I could have Cokes (and yes, it was Coke) and then I made myself drink diet to not gain weight. Which I’ve loved ever since, and can’t stand regular pops/sodas/cokes now. It’s like sucking sugar to me. ick.

Anyhew, not a big comment on the Adam tweets, as it has it’s own thread, beyond saying the ‘promoting a gay lifestyle’ always makes me think of The Onion (back when it was funny) article about the Gay Recruitment Drive doing well that year. Pledge time!

  147. Great interview with Casey, it really sounds like they are going to let him do his own thing.

  148. tierbee:

I think I might be terribly fan-envious that you Lee fans get a lead single he cowrote. Sniff. Isn’t this all exciting?

Yes indeedy it is. Now if we could just get a release date for You Know Who’s next album, I’d be doing the happydance.

  149. Well I saw the X- Factor & don’t remember anything being said about this but that doesn’t mean he won’t be performing -just that Adam’s not on my radar!! Usually they say who is performing on the Sunday night show- that will be next Sunday.

Were you watching the UK X Factor or the Australian X Factor?

  150. Why in the world do Europeans make you request ice when you order pop? Warm pop is the worst.

LOL Idk how it’s in other countries, but here we don’t request ice cause the pop usually has been in the freezer and it’s cold. lol When I was in teh US they always served it with lots of Ice and it was awful cause at some point the pop started tasting like water, it was more ice than the soda, so we then would request pop without ice. lol

  151. I find it interesting that pretty much all the reviews used the word “surprising”. What the heck did they expect from him?

Nothing! I honestly think that people were expecting nothing. And even though I’m not a fan, I think he’s probably going to surprise people. He’s got a good recording voice. With the right songs, I think he’ll do fine.

  152. Really late to the pop-party, but we called them “soft drinks”. My Mom was born and raised in San Diego, and we all grew up here and that is what she called them: soft drinks. (She hardly ever allowed them in the house, though :-( )

And put me on the Coke (Diet Coke) team: used to drink a can of that stuff each and every day. I find it too filling now…
So we mostly drink water and/or sparkling water, flavored or plain. (When we aren’t imbibing alcohol….. ;-) )

  153. Lee will probably sing his new single at the This Old Bag event on Friday.. anyone from here going that can send us a tidbit? ;)

Well being Australian – I was watching the Aussie version- lol [ we don’t get the UK version here] I see on the other thread that this has now been confirmed- my point was I didn’t hear it announced on the show.

  155. ETA – I’m talking Diet Pepsi; Both Coke and Pepsi are too sweet for me.

Same goes for me. I do drink Coke when nothing else is available.

If Adam agree to make a few adjustments to his show, it may garner new locations for his concerts.
