X Factor Breakout Star Chris Rene Chats With Perez!

You were pretty fresh from rehab when you first auditioned. Doing a show like X Factor brings a lot of pressure. Do you think you can handle it? It did bring some pressure. For a normal person they would be tripping out, and I’m definitely not a normal person. I love love this! I love ALL of this. I love the good, the bad, the ugly – whatever it comes with, I signed up for this when I got on the stage and sang that song. The pressure is kinda not really there today. The excitement is there and the motivation to work hard and to see what happens on this road is definitely there.

Do you go to meetings/have support? I don’t have to but I choose to and that’s a part of my recovery process. There are a couple of different things I do on a daily basis and it definitely helps me stay level and it’s a beautiful thing.

Exclusive: Kristin Chenoweth: “I’m Never Doing Hip-Hop!”

Us: Have you heard from Carrie or do you know her? – KC: Yeah, she’s amazing, and she’s also from Oklahoma. I did her TV variety show a couple of years back and I got to know her just a teeny bit from that. We had a great time together. I hope she’s proud of the song. Her version is just outstanding, which inspired me. It’s really a testament to her that I wanted to do it anyway. I hope she likes it. I just wish her the best because I think she’s a really good, good, good-spirited and hearted person.

Lea Michele: Sarah Hyland “Hurt My Feelings”

Last week Modern Family star Sarah Hyland playfully poked fun at the Glee star’s exaggerated red carpet posing style during E!’s Fashion Police, but Michele, 25, still doesn’t find Hyland’s snippy remarks very funny.

“I gotta be honest. It hurt my feelings a little bit, ” Michele, who recently split from Theo Stockman, told Us Weekly Friday in NYC at Variety’s 3rd Annual Power of Women event. “I really think the message of today is that women should motivate and empower women, and so that’s why I’m honored to be a part of today.”

  1. I know in the scheme of things it doesn’t matter whatsoever, but Scotty will be singing at the NC State (Wolfpack) vs Georgia Tech game. Central Michigan is the next week:) Hope someone tapes and posts on the tube:)

  2. I was thinking about David Cook today and there is a mention of him in the headlines :)

  3. James Durbin tweets, “Recording hopeful singles this weekend!!! Getting offers left and right!! So cool!! OFFICIALLY DONE WITH IDOL!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!! LET THE ROCK COMMENCE!!!!!”.

I find this guy so pompous and incredibly overbearing. Lots of big talk. See if he can actually deliver. He may think he’s a big shot now, having just come off the Idol tour. But Idol history has shown that popularity is very short lived.

  4. I’m so glad this year’s Idols are so excited to be done with the show that made them “famous”. I’m kind of done with hearing about most of them. :p

Lea Michelle seems really full of herself. Watching her pose on the red carpet is hilarious and ridiculous at the same time.

  5. But Idol history has shown that popularity is very short lived.

Yes, Idol History ahs shown it, and they still have to folloy their rule like puppets 4 months after the show.

People saying they should be grateful are the same saying success psot idol is short. Isn’t that a stupid contradiction? Yeah, and the only thing is sure is that, if u aren’t the winner, u most be really pissed off.

Congrats to James Durbin, who’s not an idol puppet anymore.

  6. Kris’s stint as guest DJ on Sirius FM The Blend is on now :)

As for James, can’t blame him for being excited to move on to the next part of his career.

  7. I love James’ pompous overbearing enthusiasm. I love his voice, and I am anxious to hear his new music. I like his new song “Stand Up” and will download it as soon as it’s available. Hope to hear it promoting NFL or whatever it was recorded for.

I’ll also watch Dr. Drew Monday, to see James and Stefano “help 2 Idol fans accomplish their goals” – thanks to this tweet earlier this week:

19News tweets, “@DurbinRock & @slangoneai10 are #Lifechangers for @DrDrewLCTV. Watch Mon 3PM on the CW as they help 2 Idol fans accomplish their goals.”

    Don’t Curb Your Enthusiasm, James!

  8. Phew… with all the cancellings of the SYTYCD in other countries I was worried for a sec that the US version was gonna be on the chopping block too. That’s definitely great news.

  9. I’m so glad this year’s Idols are so excited to be done with the show that made them “famous”. I’m kind of done with hearing about most of them. :p

    Who else has said this?

  10. Of all the debut albums from Idolettes I am truly looking forward to the one from James Durbin most. Not because I’m a fan, I’m not, but because I really am waiting with bated breath to see if he can pull a rabbit out of the hat and be the next great thing to happen to metal and rock.

I’ll be gob smacked if there really is a purchasing and listening audience that is waiting breathlessly for the next metal wailer…if James can truly crash the old boys club of rock and get himself spun on the many rock stations still in existence. Will he be the kid who saves the genre and proves that Idolettes can truly compete for the rock market. Is his fanbase more than Bubblettes? Can not wait!!!!!! (are a multitude of exclamation points the way that rockers punctuate now a days?…I thought that was reserved for tweeny boppers).

ETA: Oh I forgot the ALL CAPS.

  11. James Durbin tweets, “Recording hopeful singles this weekend!!! Getting offers left and right!! So cool!! OFFICIALLY DONE WITH IDOL!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!! LET THE ROCK COMMENCE!!!!!”.

That quote needs more exclamation points.

  12. Haley had a mini twitter party earlier. Seems like they’re still searching for songs. I hope we get a single before Christmas!

  13. Kris’s stint as the guest DJ is over. Was for one hour. He did a good job. Didn’t say anything about new music, but told a few tour stories. And closed out the hour by spinning LLWD :)

  14. If anyone interested the first episode of Majors & minors was on tonite and it was terrific. Really well done. Not cheesy at all. The kids are incredibly talented ( like the mickey mouse club circa Britney, Justin, Xtina). It’s filmed and scored well Debra Byrd is a vocal coach. The kids are treated very respectfully. Impressed

  15. Of all the debut albums from Idolettes I am truly looking forward to the one from James Durbin most. Not because I’m a fan, I’m not, but because I really am waiting with bated breath to see if he can pull a rabbit out of the hat and be the next great thing to happen to metal and rock.

At least there’s interest there. I hope lots of people are interested in seeing what he does! Beats being forgotten quickly..

Sure its a crapshoot but I’m happy for James hes at least getting to make an album hes excited about. Hes got a rock label backing him, a major producer, is working/writing with artists he loves and he didnt have to wait around waiting for a record deal. Can you blame him for being excited? At least he wont have to resort to asking fans to help pay for getting an album made. Whether he fails or not is no different than any winner or runner-up, or anyone more mainstream coming off AI with a record deal. JMO but I dont find his enthusiasm any worse than some of the hyperbole Stefano has spewed.

That said, I do wonder if he’s as “free” from AI as he may think. I kinda suspect as long as 19 is part of his management there will always be some ties. I notice sometimes stuff is posted to his FB thats linked from AI.com and just generally seems like stuff he wouldnt give a crap about LOL

  16. Scotty said he will be singing the NA on Oct 8. That will be NC State vs Central Michigan.

That’s going to be interesting. It should either prove or disprove conclusively claims some have made about his “limited range.”

  17. This is actually 3 different tweets:

    Recording hopeful singles this weekend!!!

Getting offers left and right!! So cool!!

OFFICIALLY DONE WITH IDOL!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!! LET THE ROCK COMMENCE!!!!!”.

James sounds like a kid who just got the key to a candy store. He is very excited and enthusiastic, as anyone would be who has been given such a wonderful opportunity. He is just a wee bit more excitable than the average guy. ; )))

Oh a new quote from James:

    Ungrateful? #areyouseriousbro

I guess he is trying to say that his excitement and enthusiasm about making his first ever record – basically his dream coming true – does not mean that he is ungrateful for the experience that got him there.

I am curious about the offers, likely people who are interested in playing on the album. I know Mick Mars tweeted that he would like to work with him again and Mike Portnoy has also tweeted a couple of times about his interest in drumming for the album.

  18. Count me as another waiting anxiously for original stuff from James’ and will be buying Stand Up as soon as it’s available.

I’m so glad he’s finally free from the Idol leash and can go down whatever path he wants.

  19. Me… For one. :)

Which show are you done with that made you famous?

  20. The Idol experience is a long one, most of the idols are glad when it’s over. Doesn’t mean they aren’t grateful. People can read that into it if they want.

Of course they’re happy to be done singing covers and doing choreography. I see nothing the matter with wanting to move on to do their own music, their own shows, and being excited about it.

The alternative would be: “I don’t want to move on to my solo career, I just want to keep on doing the Idols tour forever. It’s a big, scary world out there. And I don’t want to do rock. It’s not popular. I should stick to something safe.”

  21. OK, tweets like these are why it is so much fun to follow Crazy James. What other Idol gets this stuff! LOL!!

    HulkHogan Hulk Hogan
@DurbinRock hey yo Durbinator me and my HULKAMANIACS can’t wait to hear your new music,it’s gonna blow everyone away!! Love and respect. HH

  22. Me… For one.

Which show are you done with that made you famous?

Lol you misunderstand. This time of year I have idol fatigue. I need a few month before I’m ready to even consider a new batch. Happens every year for me – bad or good season.

  23. Oh jeeesus I was waiting for these two to end up hanging out together considering theyre sharing a producer!
    http://yfrog.com/kjq9ohgj

I wonder if there’s a chance that Chris will appear on James’ album.

  24. The alternative would be: “I don’t want to move on to my solo career, I just want to keep on doing the Idols tour forever. It’s a big, scary world out there. And I don’t want to do rock. It’s not popular. I should stick to something safe.”

No. The alternative would be to say something like, “The Idol journey is over. What a great ride it’s been. On to the future!” (Except written in a more awesome style, no doubt.) But, since I tend to be a fan of Idols who tweet without filter, I’m not going to make a big deal about what this new crop tweets or doesn’t tweet. They’re young. They’ll make mistakes. So what?

  25. I don’t know how they are going to select only one. So many talented kids. Wow. Nia Holloway. How can she not get signed? Emily something (one of the older ones). She is not only good, she is gorgeous. A couple of Bieber look-alikes with deeper voices.

Looks like another show I’ll be hooked on.

  26. No. The alternative would be to say something like, “The Idol journey is over. What a great ride it’s been. On to the future!”

Well, that’s another alternative. Maybe I really meant, “the opposite.”

What you wrote is more or less the same thing he was expressing, just a lot less enthusiastic and more genteel. I can’t really picture him saying, “On to the future!” though.

  27. But, since I tend to be a fan of Idols who tweet without filter, I’m not going to make a big deal about what this new crop tweets or doesn’t tweet.

Yep, that’s how I look at it.

  28. They are just happy to be able to sing what they want and see their loved ones, etc. Their lives have belonged to Idol for a year now.

American idol is OFFICIALLY OVER!!!! It’s been almost a year since i’ve performed any original music…holy moly. Its time for some new tunes and some much needed family time! say.ly/DvuKwT

  29. OK so I’m watching “Blue Bloods” and guess who is singing? Carrie Underwood and Tony Bennett “It had to be You”. Carrie went on to talk about their recording it for Tony’s b-day. WoW. Did anyone else know about this, or did I just miss it lol.

As for James’ tweets – big whoop! It has been a gruelling year of being away from family, long hours, months of touring. I would think most of them in some way are glad that that part is over and they can resume some level of normalcy. It doesn’t mean they’re ungrateful. It just means it’s nice to get some breathing space again.

I’m looking forward to James’ new recordings. He did tweet that a duet was possible. Daughtry maybe? Who knows. Expect the unexpected lol.

  30. I wouldn’t be shocked if a song Daughtry wrote and didn’t make the album ended up on James’ or if they ended up working together. Think there’s some boozing going on at Howards tonight though because James tweeted Chris earlier saying his “Jack” was waiting for him there lol Awesome.

  31. *squee* I <3 my rawker boys

    oh yeah!!!

Tess, I hope James wins you over. He can’t be compared to the legends we love, but he has great enthusiasm and talent. So much fun…:) eta: Paul McDonald, I’m so happy you get to do your thang!!!

  32. Maybe Daughtry and James will write or have written together? A similar picture of Chris D and Kris showed up shortly before it became known that they wrote SMAYA together. So maybe a Chris/James co-write could be in the works? Or even a duet (James did tweet something about a possible duet — without saying with who — the other day)?

    You mean something like this?

    adamlambert Adam Lambert
Idols Live tour has officially ended. Thanks to my fellow idols and all the fans for making this summer such an adventure.

  34. Or how about this:

    Pia Toscano
    PiaToscano Pia Toscano
Wow… So hard to say goodbye to my idol family.. The most amazing people I’ve ever met. Going to miss you all! Love you </

But I agree they must be all excited to get on with their life and careers. I wish James the best and I suspect he enjoyed his Idol ride.

  35. James is James with his own way, style, personality. What a boring world if everyone were required to be like those before them. Run James and don’t look back!!!

  36. James’ tweet is so fun! :)

I don’t think his tweets should be compared to anyone else’s. But I’m biased. I’m also a very enthusiastic person, so I probably would have tweeted the same thing!!! lolll…. bye bye Idol….. :)

  37. Congrats to James Durbin, who’s not an idol puppet anymore.

Well, if not for Idol, he would be just another unemployed statistic with a kid, probably living off the state. He didn’t go to college, got laid off from his job at a pizza place.

I’d be really curious to see where he’s at a year from now. It can be a rude awakening once he is no longer in the Idol bubble – as many have found out the hard way.

  38. What you wrote is more or less the same thing he was expressing, just a lot less enthusiastic and more genteel. I can’t really picture him saying, “On to the future!” though.

    :) I know. That’s what I mean. They’re kids, really. I don’t think they mean any harm.

  39. JamEs gone a be huge or next big thing like daughtry had like &3-5million because he’s working with famous producers for he’s 1album and have AI followers and gain new fan followers when he tour.
My question is the album dosent sale like before.I heard daughtry sold $1.4million for he’s album not $5million.what’s going on with albums this days?

  40. So this online (?) radio station in Indonesia is not only playing Daughtry’s new single Renegade, they are playing one of Kris’s old demos…

    (from twitter)

    ardanradio ARDAN105,9FMBANDUNG!
    ***NEW ENTRY*** #37 DAUGHTRY – Renegade | #35 KRIS ALLEN – Love Too Much | #ARDANFLIGHT40

  41. Just finished watching the 1st episode of Majors and Minors. I’m impressed by the talent level of these kids. So many of them auditioned with songs they wrote themselves and most of them play instruments. Watch out — a couple of WGWG in the final 12! lol :)

This show looks a lot more interesting than XFactor :)

  42. About James tweets- James – “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter dont mind” – Dr Seuss. Says it all really, hope he never stops being himself because a few people choose to be upset by what he says.

  43. JamEs gone a be huge or next big thing like daughtry had like &3-5million because he’s working with famous producers for he’s 1album and have AI followers and gain new fan followers when he tour.

I doubt that very much. Nobody has been able to touch Chris’ sales except for Carrie. Famous producers don’t mean anything nowadays.

  44. I don’t live in us but I saw info in this site that Carrie is top the idol charts and she’s female.I mean male singers .don’t you guys say James gone be huge so he must be next daughtry I don’t know.
Base in reading in this site I comment ,I have no idea what’s going on and I’m not AI fan.

  45. So this online (?) radio station in Indonesia is not only playing Daughtry’s new single Renegade, they are playing one of Kris’s old demos…

That’s a surprise. (Nice surprise.) Good song. Guess they think so too.

  46. It should either prove or disprove conclusively claims some have made about his “limited range.”

larc, Scotty will probably be fine singing the NA…that song is so rangey, most people’s concern is, can they start low enough in their register with “Oh say can you see” to still have some upper room for the “rockets red glare”. Starting low won’t be a problem for Scotty.

Carrie Underwood and David Cook were spotted enjoying a casual meal at Sushi Roku Hollywood.”

ituneit, I caught that mention too – nice that the two friends could reconnect at the right moment, with Carrie in town, and David fixing to leave. It’s only two weeks before the Loud Morning tour w/GDG, David and band members have been tweeting about rehearsals and teasing about the new batch of covers for the tour – I wonder if he and Carrie were talking shop, about concerts and life on the road.

  47. I saw pictures of Scotty singing the NA before at a game before Idol. So well, I think he will be fine.

  48. So this online (?) radio station in Indonesia is not only playing Daughtry’s new single Renegade, they are playing one of Kris’s old demos…

Wait a minute, I thought there was no interest for Kris Allen outside of the US… lol, j/k.

  49. Incipit says:
Scotty will probably be fine singing the NA…that song is so rangey, most people’s concern is, can they start low enough in their register with “Oh say can you see” to still have some upper room for the “rockets red glare”. Starting low won’t be a problem for Scotty.

I think he’ll be able to handle it with no problem as well. But a few people seem to have decided Scotty’s range is necessarily limited to what he did on Idol. I didn’t hear any vocal hints that he ever sang at the top of his range during the season.

  50. Do we actually know that James was working with Daughtry? In another tweet it indicated Daughtry was working with someone else. They may have just been in the same studio.

  51. James is James with his own way, style, personality. What a boring world if everyone were required to be like those before them. Run James and don’t look back!!!

    Exactly!

….and how cool the pic with Daughtry! Hopefully they have the chance to work together!

  52. What if 19 tweeted “OFFICIALLY DONE WITH THIS CROP OF IDOLS!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!! LET SEASON 11 COMMENCE!!!!!”

Doesn’t read very well… I’ve lost all hope that Durbin will ever extract his foot from his mouth, so I’ve acquiesced and interpret all his statements as positively as possible.

He’s an Aspie, social cues will always be a weakness.

  54. No fan of James’s music but with every “foot in the mouth” tweet, I have more and more faith that he might be one of the few Idols to actually make a career in rock. He’s def got the right attitude.

I’d still give his chances at making it as slim but every un PC act or comment is actually a good sign for his post Idol career. Just like rap music, “cred” is what it’s all about in rock.

  55. JamEs gone a be huge or next big thing like daughtry had like &3-5million because he’s working with famous producers for he’s 1album and have AI followers and gain new fan followers when he tour.

James is not the first or the last idol to work with well known and successful producers or writers.

  56. How is what James said any different than what Paul tweeted? Paul saying enthusiastically Idol is officially over with all caps and exclamations is warm and fuzzy I guess? The last night of the US leg of the tour James tweeted how tough it would be and that he would miss the guys, not very different from what Pia posted. Not everyone is going to express their feelings the same anyway.

  57. …..and besides, where is it written that you have to be grateful to AI? I’m sure that James is grateful for the opportunity, but enough is enough for some and it’s time to move on.

  58. What if 19 tweeted “OFFICIALLY DONE WITH THIS CROP OF IDOLS!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!! LET SEASON 11 COMMENCE!!!!!

Heh. Well, they kinda sorta do – every year the New Season is The Best Season Evah!!! – better than the last, which they are officially done with now, so it’s chopped liver – sometimes accompanied by random shots at past seasons, of which knocking the caucasian gentlemen with stringed instruments is the biggest example.

And they do it on purpose.

James didn’t say anything past contestants haven’t said – perhaps it’s the exclamation points?

I think one could find a similar quote from any idol, right in there with how much they will miss their fellow contestants, the bittersweet parting, and now it’s time to get to work quotes – my guy may have been more low key, but he said the same thing in essence.

“I’ve spent the last year of my life singing other people’s songs,” Cook said. “… I definitely want to progress past that…”

See? Looks like a rather normal sentiment. Must be the exclamation points. *wink*

ETA: durbnet, thanks for the Tim Halperin article – that’s clever PR and a pointed commentary at the same time. IMO.

  59. What if 19 tweeted “OFFICIALLY DONE WITH THIS CROP OF IDOLS!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!! LET SEASON 11 COMMENCE!!!!!”

Not in so many words. But maybe you’ve heard of some of Ken Warwick’s and Nigel’s comments from time to time.

  60. What if 19 tweeted “OFFICIALLY DONE WITH THIS CROP OF IDOLS!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!! LET SEASON 11 COMMENCE!!!!!”

Well, Ken always says something like that to the press.

ETA: LOL. ross and Incipit are faster at typing than me.

  61. James isn’t saying anything other folks haven’t said. He’s just doing it with the rock attitude!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And don’t worry about 19. I heard S11 will be the best season ever. ;)

  62. With James what you see is what you get, like it or not. James is just saying aloud and with a lot of enthusiasm what some other people deep down are too politically correct to put in so many words and exclamation marks!!!!!

James and Daughtry…. Daughtry and James both have a album coming soon, will probably be touring soon and both are rock and share the same producer, it could be a great match. James maybe a little more edgy than Daughtry but still would cater to fairly similar crowds so James could be a fun opening act for Daughtry (dreaming is free after all).

  63. 2 years ago Allison Iraheta was predicted to be the next Chris Daughtry. According to fans, she has a rocker edge and also finished in 4th place. Producer Howard Benson said she reminded him of Daughtry and said her record will be very easy to make.

We all know the outcome of that.

  64. People here always say that Ken and Nigel are douchebags. And these are the same people defending James’s douchebagness. Funny.

I was replying to someone who was asking ‘what if 19 tweeted they were glad to be done with this crop of idols’? Just saying, they have communicated something like that before.

  65. People here always say that Ken and Nigel are douchebags.
And these are the same people defending James’s douchebagness. Funny.

OK, Barometz02, If I agree with you, every single past contestant who has expressed happiness at being free of the Idol contract restrictions is also a douchebag. That’s probably all of them. With or without exclamation points. (or jail cells – Tim Halperin)

No, wait, maybe they could just be douche nozzles – maybe a few of them could only aspire to being douche prescriptions? Heh.

They all have a long way to go to reach the levels of Warwick and Lithgoe. If they ever wanted to. IMO.

  66. I never called Nigel a d bag. He’s a shrewd guy who’s great at making people think IDOL is more than a money making factory!

  67. To me, Warwick and co. are powerful pros whose messages actually do have the power to hurt or help fledgeling careers, unlike a lone idol tweeting something. The media reports what they say, or quotes it until it becomes the common wisdom. And they know this.

I can totally understand some idol saying they’re glad to be done with it, for whatever reason (he didn’t specify). He’s no diplomat but I don’t think he meant anything especially negative.

  68. To me, Warwick and co. are powerful pros whose messages actually do have the power to hurt or help fledgeling careers, unlike some random idol tweeting something.

Ross and I are sharing a brain today.

He types fast so I don’t have to.

  69. And don’t worry about 19. I heard S11 will be the best season ever. ;)

LMAO!! I also heard it will have the most talented contestants ever and there is going to be some really shocking results.

  70. I have no problem with James being real. The problem I have is that his realness shows me that I don’t want anything to do with him. I can appreciate that he has his hurdles to overcome and I applaud his efforts in doing so but all of his realness has shown me that he is narrowminded and judgemental. He has taken on that whole wrestling world asshole persona that may make him huge in rock circles but is one reason I’m pretty much done with rock. If you have to be an asshole to be admired in the rock world then count me out. For someone who struggles with being accepted because of his differences he is remarkably intolerant of others differences and behavior. Sorry but that’s just my take and I am just as entitled to it.

The reason I quoted Adam’s tweet is that he is just as “real” as James but he focuses on the positive so when he word vomits its usually something nice rather than douchey. No one is above being a douche bag on occasion but I’d rather put my energy and attention on those for whom it is a rare occurrence rather than an ongoing thing.

Good luck to James but I’m not likely to ever be a fan.

ETA: Yeah, and I have little sympathy for anyone who bitches about AI restrictions because HELLO you sign a fucking contract before you go on the show. If you don’t know what’s in that contract you’re to blame. If you sign it anyway then suck it up and fucking deal. Don’t go whining about it later. You made your bed so lie in it. Just like artist who carry on a public running battle with the record company. If they are your enemy why did you go into business with them in the first place. I’m not saying don’t stand your ground but don’t air you’re dirty laundry in public when you are the one who got yourself into the situation in the first place. The press is not where those battles should be fought.

  71. Ross and I are sharing a brain today.

He types fast so I don’t have to.

    :D

  72. @rihannsu: Same here. I agree with you.

To be honest, I have a soft spot for James. Especially when he held and comforted a crying Scotty in the result for top 4. Deep down, I really want to believe he is a good, caring guy.

I can’t wish he tweets less or says thing differently. It’s not who he is. But I don’t think I can ever be a fan of his personality, plus I just listen to rock casually. He never gives me the vibe of being humble and realistic.

  73. And don’t worry about 19. I heard S11 will be the best season ever.

LMAO!! I also heard it will have the most talented contestants ever and there is going to be some really shocking results.

I heard through the grapevine..and this is totally on the down low…but rumor has it, it’s a girls year to win.

  74. I have more and more faith that he might be one of the few Idols to actually make a career in rock. He’s def got the right attitude.

lol if only being an offensive, intolerant moron would be the only qualification for becoming a rock star. There would be a lot of wealthy, happy and succesful people on the planet.

James will surely need out of this world talent (which imo he has not shown us yet) to get people notice his music, because as far as i can tell, since he’s been voted off the show his borderline offensive behavior is the only thing people are talking about.

TBBH the pop industry is a million times douchier than the rock & metal industries. I’m yet to see one metalhead call James a douche, make fun of his appearance, his conditions or complain about his tweets and tongue-in-cheek comments. Whilst I’ve seen Idol bloggers and their readers do all of those things.

Metalheads only care about the music, they don’t bitch and moan about comments made by folks they don’t personally know.

You are all experiencing James’ public persona which IS befitting of his chosen genre. That does not mean that he is nasty to the people he interacts with on a personal or even a professional level. Plenty of rockers are devoted family men and very humble and hardworking. If I hear of James abusing his wife and child then I will jump on the bandwagon y’all got going here and also start calling him an asshole.

If you think that they only care about the music then you are wrong. They aren’t looking for their new metal god on American Idol because that’s not what idol is about. If an Idol contestant wants to be taken seriously and sell records as a Rock artist then he/she needs to work extra hard to prove their musical ability. How will James’s band get respect when they need other band’s members to come up with their material? Most rock are written by members of their own band, either separately or together and they would be called karaoke bands if someone else was writing their songs.

  77. I don’t care what other people buy I’m only talking about me. What I am willing to invest my money in. I like Aerosmith but during their drug years I never bought any of their records and I would never have paid money to watch Steven stumble around the stage in a drug fueled haze. Went to see them live only one time with a friend who had paid for the tickets and that was in 98 or so after they had cleaned themselves up. I only put my money into artists that I like the person as well as the music. Plenty of places to hear all the others for free.

Not saying who will sell or who won’t because I KNOW assholes will still sell music, look at Kanye and Chris Brown. But I don’t have to buy it. I don’t have a huge collection of pirated music either. It’s not worth my time to go download something unless I really like the artist as a person because I don’t in all honesty listen to music all that much. I prefer to concentrate on the artist who inspire me. That is my prerogative and I’m not telling anyone else how or on who to spend their money just stating what I intend to do.

As for the metal blogs I’d love for someone to provide a link to somewhere that James is getting all this love from metal fans because the few places I’ve found on google he was getting even less favorable comments than Adam got. I don’t expect metal fans to like Adam but he did get some positive response to his talent. I keep hearing about all this supposed love James is getting on metal sites but no one ever gives links so I can’t see for myself. I’ll believe he’s some metal or rock superstar once he’s put out an album that does great and/or a tour that does great until then we shall just have to wait and see but I’m not seeing much evidence that he’s anything special.

  78. I’m curious, who that actually matters has James offended? I’m all ears.

I don’t follow James, but just from what i remember being brought over/discussed here, I’m sure someone more in touch will be able to verify:

Non-Christians, Idol watchers, pop listeners, Lady Gaga, Filipinos. And from those who don’t matter: Adam Lambert and his fans.

So yup, he is an offensive, ignorant moron.

Douches are capable of having talent and/or a stellar career, though, so I’m very curious if James is capable of pulling off a decent career.

I’ve read more positive comments about James on that site than on most Idol sites, there are plenty of other articles on James on Blabbermouth. Same goes for Revolver Magazine’s website and numerous other rock sites that write about him regularly (Ultimate Guitar, Henne Music, ect.) And the negative comments there don’t compare to the negative comments I’ve seen made by rival Idol fanbases.

First off most of the metalheads at Blabbermouth are into thrash, speed, black & death metal. James never claimed he would do that type of metal so he isn’t targeting that audience anyway. And lot of the posters at Blabbermouth are 14 year old headbangers writing from their parents’ basements.

Second the rock & metal communities are not homogeneous, especially not when you’re considering them on a global scale. Metal contestants have won Idol like singing competitions in other countries. Metal is much more popular outside the US and even mainstream in many countries in Europe and Asia. Wind Up is a label that likes to really promote their acts internationally and some of the bands on their roster are not from the US (eg: Seether & Civil Twilight are from South Africa). It is likely that James will have more success outside the US and will tour Europe & Asia more than the US. But even Daughtry & We Are the Fallen (Carly Smithson’s band) got some rock radio airplay. And plenty of established bands do co-writes or accept songs written by others. Marti Frederickson has written for Aerosmith, Def Leppard & Motley Crue. Some even use ghost writers, it happens more often than the headbangers would like to admit. It really is inaccurate to make gross generalizations.

  80. James offended Filipinos? I’m such a crappy fan who’s clearly not keeping up with the latest douchebaggery. Must have missed that one.

  81. Non-Christians

Hehe, yeah all non-Christians were offended by the “double points” comment, eg:

    @xcipher64 Michael
@JDurbinAI10 Dude I am not Christian and I honestly don’t care when you say religious stuff because I know your not demonizing other people.
    7 Jun via web

    Idol watchers,

Evidently get offended by everything. And this was after he was on the show anyway, so sorry they don’t matter anymore.

    pop listeners,

Can I get offended if they claim that metal is dead? Do I have your permission?

    Lady Gaga,

How she matters is beyond me.

    Filipinos.

Am yet to see any Filipino tweet James to complain that he offended them.

And from those who don’t matter: Adam Lambert and his fans.

    Finally something we agree on.

So yup, he is an offensive, ignorant moron.

    Fail.

  82. James offended Filipinos?

I read his #areyouseriousbro tweets from Philipines as ignorant and offensive. Some countries have problems that shouldn’t be mocked and, for example, the necessity of having an armed guard in a fast food restaurant is one of such problems.

I found him dissing Gaga, Adam, Idol watchers more on the childish and eyeroll-worthy spectrum of douchiness, but that?

    @DurbNet

In the grand scheme of things, nobody matters. Not Adam, not Gaga, not James, not Michael Jackson, not Metallica. It’s a entertainment industry. But the mere fact that somebody – James in this case – goes offending people, means that they are offensive.

    ETA: or what adolf_hipster said.

  83. A nice thing about any Idol season being over is that I don’t have to watch or listen to contestants I don’t like any more. Until they come back for guest spots. But there’s always the mute button.

Likewise I guess some contestants must be thrilled they don’t have to be judged all the time by people who aren’t their fans, and can just concentrate on playing for their fans. One reason I can understand the elation.

  84. I’m curious, who that actually matters has James offended? I’m all ears.

I gotta admit i’m confused by this. Being offensive has nothing to do with the people on the other side. It’s only James’ problem. Offending a random TV fan doesn’t make you less offensive than offending the biggest pop star on the planet. It doesn’t work that way. As human beings they are equal.

  85. Re: Being offensive to Fillipinos

I remember being 23 and going outside of North America for the first time. It was quite an experience. I went to a country in South America (I shan’t say which lest I be seen as dissing) and it was a mind blowing experience because the streets and shops were regularly patrolled by militia carrying machine guns (or at least very large nasty looking rifles, but I’m sure they were machine guns). I am a political science major who focused on politics in the third world and even knowing about politics and world issues, I was still in awe having been brought up in North America. I didn’t tweet it but then again, twitter hadn’t been invented. I saw it more as an expression of incredulity rather than a diss.

I also heard James making quite the effort to learn phrases in Tagalog and thanking host stations and venues. Heh.

  86. I read his #areyouseriousbro tweets from Philipines as extremely ignorant and offensive. Some countries have problems that shouldn’t be mocked and, for example, the necessity of having an armed guard in a fast food restaurant is a f*****g serious matter.

You read it as such, that doesn’t mean everyone else read it the way you did. Are you a Filipino? If yes then I can respect your opinion. If not then well I’m gonna tell you again that I see no evidence that any Filipinos were offended by those comments, so no reason for me to jump on the “call James an offensive moron” bandwagon.

I found him dissing Gaga, Adam, Idol watchers more on the childish and eyeroll-worthy spectrum of douchiness, but that?

You’re still not giving James any reason to cry over the things he said.

    @DurbNet

In the grand scheme of things, nobody matters. Not Adam, not Gaga, not James, not Michael Jackson, not Metallica. It’s a entertainment industry. But the mere fact that somebody – James in this case – goes offending people, means that they are offensive. Is that so hard to comprehend?

LOL this makes me think of the countless comments by haters that James must “suck it up” cause the music bizz is such a brutal bizz. The stuff James has hurled at Gaga & Lambert pales in comparison to what his haters have hurled at him regarding his conditions. Gaga & Lambert chose to make the music they make and portray the images they portray. James did not choose to be born with 2 incurable conditions that he can do absolutely nothing about. Those haters should be grateful they are able to hide behind anonymous monikers on the internet, cause in the real world that kinda thing can get them sued.

So summing up: James is an ignorant, offensive moron.

    Fail.

  87. I saw it more as an expression of incredulity rather than a diss.

    Same here.

    Well said! ITA!

  89. About James being “incredulous”: being a sheltered untravelled person is no crime and expressing surprise is normal. Adding a hashtag #areyouseriousbro, is offensive. Yes, James, guns in fast food restaurants is serious. No cars on streets is no walk in the park either. I remember my reaction at three lines of bicycles and motorbikes and a fourth filled with just brand new SUVs in Vietnam, but I wouldn’t dream to be so flippant about it.

  90. Adam Lambert and his fans

I’d like to change this to ‘some of his fans’. There are a good number of Adam fans who aren’t offended by James. We are fans of both. Yes, it is possible.

  91. About James being “incredulous”: being a sheltered untravelled person is no crime and expressing surprise is normal. Adding a hashtag #areyouseriousbro, is offensive. I’m sorry, I still don’t see what you felt was offensive, or flippant.

“Are you serious?” is a way of saying, “This is unbelievable.” It’s an expression of incredulity. Are you angry he added “bro”? I’m sorry, you lost me.

  92. #areyouseriousbro

This hashtag is not an attempt to mock anything. It’s a Zach Ryder wrestling thing that James has picked up on. I don’t know how people can accuse James of being offensive with those tweets. He is emulating one of his heroes and joining in. He reminds me of one of my sons that does everything that his fictional hero Don Draper does because he thinks Don Draper is so cool But, I must say, he does look good in the suits he wears – lol! (I suppose I like the suits better than I would the wrestling belts!)

As for the blabbernouth comments section – lol. That is the craziest nastiest comment board I’ve ever read – consistently. And the comments after Judas Priest were on Idol were as often directed at Priest as they were at James. And what they said there was nothing. I have never seen fans there so at each others throats as the Metallica vs. Priest fans. It’s wild. It’s crazy. It’s ugly. It’s hysterically funny. After James deal with WindUp was announced, the commenters chimed in and things had changed quite a bit, they were only half hateful – lol!!! But there was also a lot of support. What was funniest though was when one of the posters basically bitch-slapped someone who was dissing James with something like “why would anyone care what you think anyway you unemployed 30-year-old loser sitting at your computer in your underwear in your mother’s basement where you live.” That hilarious image will not leave my head. They need to do a South Park episode based upon that comment. They did one mocking Slash – my sons loved that. If not for my sons I would not know that Slash is no longer cool – lol!!! The things you learn as a parent – lol!!

  93. I’m sorry, I still don’t see what you felt was offensive, or flippant.
“Are you serious?” is a way of saying, “This is unbelievable.” It’s an expression on incredulity. Are you angry he added “bro”? I’m sorry, you lost me.

Incredulous/Flippant are basically two sides of the same coin.

  94. RE: James nasty offensive tweets. Here is one:

Big CONGRATS go out to fellow Santa Cruzian Chris Rene, who slayed the X Factor stage! God Bless you on turning your life around 4 your Fam!

Now that was mean-spirited, offensive and flippant! (j/k of course)

RE: #areyouseriousbro Here is a little context for James’ series of those tweets – which clearly are meant as light and not at all serious or mean-spirited:

James was just being silly with the hashtag – nothing more – much ado about nothing.

    But this is confusing me????

Incredulous/Flippant are basically two sides of the same coin.

What does this mean? Do you mean to say that incredulous and flippant mean the same thing? Or do you mean to say they are opposite? My friend Mr. Webster says:
    incredulous – not credulous; disinclined or indisposed to believe;
flippant – lacking proper respect or seriousness
I don’t see the connection here as two sides of the same coin. Maybe I am not understanding.

ETA LOL 50diamonds thinking the same thing at the same time – yet again …….you know what they say about great minds!

  95. Incredulous/Flippant are basically two sides of the same coin.

Perhaps 2 sides of the same coin but definitely not the same meaning. Incredulity is about the inability to believe something, while being flippant is about disrespect. It is more likely someone who has lead a relatively sheltered and free life in the USA can not fathom the difference between that and what one experiences outside of North America. It’s called culture shock.

ETA LOL 50diamonds thinking the same thing at the same time – yet again …

  96. I don’t see the connection here as two sides of the same coin. Maybe I am not understanding.

Me, either – and it was my post that was quoted.

(actually, I thought I was the only one that didn’t understand)

  98. Incredulous/Flippant are basically two sides of the same coin.

Not according to any definitions I have ever seen.

  99. Perhaps 2 sides of the same coin but definitely not the same meaning.

Not according to any definitions I have ever seen.

What does this mean? Do you mean to say that incredulous and flippant mean the same thing?

LOL, um 2 sides of the same coin means exactly that they have different meanings but are closely related.

When you are incredulous you are unwilling to believe something, when you are flippant you not showing proper respect. By being incredulous that someone might live in different circumstances than the ones he finds himself in, James if being very flippant.

Not that I give a crap what James says, or do I think it was wrong. I just think it is funny to defend him by saying that because he was being incredulous he was not being flippant when they very much go hand in hand.

  100. Nothing to do with James but incredulous and flippant aren’t related words. You can be incredulous hearing about some atrocity because you can’t believe people would be that evil. But in no way would that go hand in hand with being flippant and thinking the event was not serious.

  101. Nothing to do with James but incredulous and flippant aren’t related words. You can be incredulous hearing about some horrible atrocity because you can’t believe people would be that evil. But in no way would that go hand in hand with being flippant and thinking the event was not serious.

Related words don’t have to always have to be related in every circumstance, but even in that example someone is being pretty flippant to act like it is not possible for an atrocity to have happened. Incredulous doesn’t mean you are very shocked something happened, it means you are unwilling to believe something has happened, and are pretty much refusing to acknowledge the possibility.

  102. Not that I give a crap what James says, or do I think it was wrong. I just think it is funny to defend him by saying that because he was being incredulous he was not being flippant when they very much go hand in hand.

We will have to agree to disagree on this interpretation of the language. There is nothing flippant about being incredulous. At times I think we all split hairs on this blog when it comes to meanings. But I do not think this is one of those times.

I believe I understand what you are trying to say, although I don’t agree with it. I’m a nitpicker about language usage, as it is my (real-life) job to ensure the reader understands what is written. I realize not everyone cares about this as much as I do, so let’s just agree that we disagree. : )))
