Infamous “Idol” Cast-Off Pia Toscano: No Time Like the Present

You don’t have Randy Jackson’s voice in your head telling you to limit the ballads are you? They’ll be some uptempo stuff on the record, right?
For sure. Before I came [to “Idol”] I only did uptempo stuff. The thing with “Idol” is they give us themes each week, and some are not suited for my voice. So, I didn’t want to run the risk and do a bad performance. I figured if I got penalized for the type of song, it’s better to not get it for the vocal. I tried the best I could every week. I don’t think if, during Elton John week, I did “Crocodile Rock, ” it would’ve gone so well.

Constantine Maroulis Joins Rock of Ages the movie

Director Adam Shankman tweeted this photo yesterday of Constantine Maroulis on the set of the Rock of Ages movie. Constantine played the lead role on Broadway, but was not cast in the movie (Shankman wanted an actor who was age-appropriate. Constantine is 35).

According to Deadline, he just filmed the small role as a prototypical ’80s record executive.

‘The Sing-Off’s’ Great Hope: New Judge Sara Bareilles

NBC’s The Sing-Off hasn’t been immune to the recent judge merry-go-round at Fox’s X-Factor. In the end, it lost original judge Nicole Scherzinger to the upstart talent competition. And now in her place sits singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, who the show’s fans met when she performed in last season’s finale.

“I’ve been a fan of the show from the beginning and then got to join up last year in the finale, ” Bareilles says. “And I’m such an a cappella nerd and such a fan that it seemed like just a really wonderful way to join up with a killer cast of characters here and get closer to the show, and of course, it’s nice to get people to see who I am in terms of my personality and what I have to offer as a judge.”

Nigel Lythgoe to Be Honored With International Emmy Founders Award

Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer of “American Idol” and co-creator of “So You Think You Can Dance, ” will receive the 2011 International Emmy Founders Award this year, the Emmys’ International Academy President & CEO Bruce L. Paisner said Tuesday.

The British-born Lythgoe will receive the honor at the 39th Annual International Emmy Awards Gala on November 21 in New York City.
