‘Idol’ Pushes Marketing/Promo Effort, Final Judges Still Unknown

The big news about TV’s biggest show concerns its judges for next season: A decision has not been made. But plans for a big 10th anniversary “American Idol” marketing campaign are going ahead.

Joe Earley, president of marketing and communications for Fox, says that regardless of the status of the judges, the network is culling material from its years on the air for a major marketing and promotional effort.

Will past “Idol” judges make appearances in the campaign? Judges — such as Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul — will be included in the campaign only if they allow their images to be part of the campaign, says Earley.

But the campaign will focus mostly on “Idol” talent, so the images of judges — past and future — will not hold things up.

Initial materials for the campaign will start in late October, the same time as the World Series. Another on-air blitz will hit around Thanksgiving.

Glee Creator Declares War on His Own Show’s Omnipresence

(Could have fooled Me)

If you’ve noticed a little less hype surrounding Glee in recent weeks, it’s no accident: Series creator Ryan Murphy and Fox have been intentionally turning down the volume on the first-year phenom over the summer in a carefully considered effort to build viewer anticipation for season two — and, hopefully, avoid a possible backlash. “You can’t miss us if we’re always in your face, ” Murphy told Vulture. This doesn’t mean Gleeks have been completely starved of new show-related information, or that the PR machine won’t soon be cranked up again. It’s just that, for now at least, everyone involved in the show seems to think a bit of a Glee-prieve is in order.

Iraheta has grown close to all of the players in the “Glam Nation Tour, ” from her own band-mates to co-opener Orianthi (who appears on Allison’s latest single, “Don’t Waste The Pretty”), to Adam’s bassist (and occasional onstage makeout buddy) Tommy Joe Ratliff, whom she’s gearing up to prank. “I think I’m just gonna steal Tommy’s glitter. Or lip gloss. What is he gonna do without that?” she joked.
