‘Idol’ Without Cowell Still Got Hefty Ad Price Hikes
Despite their tough talk going into the recent upfronts to seek lower ad rates for next season’s Simon Cowell-less “American Idol, ” the media buyers not only capitulated but actually paid price hikes.
As a result, Fox will most likely get about $650, 000 per 30-second commercial unit next season on “Idol” at the high end, depending on the package bought.
Buyers told TheWrap that Fox salespeople during the negotiations did not address who might replace Cowell and buyers didn’t seem to care. They just wanted to make sure their clients were in the show.

Did ‘American Idol’ producers run an illegal lottery?
A case testing whether viewer contests on “American Idol” and “Deal or No Deal” were “illegal lotteries” has survived a key hurdle.
The decision sends the case back to the district court to hear more from the contestants, who allege the shows violated California laws on unfair business practices.
The plaintiffs, who didn’t win the contest, argued that their 99 cent text message fee was that consideration. The defendants moved to dismiss the case because contestants were given a “free option” — to participate in the contest by going to the game show website. They argued there was no consideration.

“I mean, he’s getting hate mail and horrible messages online, ” she says. “So I want to make clear how amazing, kind and generous a person he is.”

“Those two are exactly what I want my album to sound like, ” Stevens said.
She’s recorded a few songs for a demo tape already and wants to land a recording contract when the tour ends in September. “Hopefully someone will see me on tour and want to sign me. You go out there, see your fans and remind yourself that you’re not getting judged.”

Bret Michaels: ‘I’m a Fighter’ | On the Record
VAN SUSTEREN: “American Idol, ” do you want to be a judge with Ellen and Randy, think you would be good at it?
MICHAELS: I think I could do a great job. I’ve truly lived from it ground up, the basements and the garages of Pennsylvania to the bars, and I say on every level, I could give them advice.
I’m also one of those people, I’m not as brutally as honest as Simon is. But Simon was an original and he brought brutal honesty. I think I could give a good honest answer on the passion of music and navigating the business of being and having a long career.
