Will Carrie Underwood steal Kenny Chesney crown?
Carrie Underwood has become country music biggest star since she exploded onto the scene after winning American Idol in 2005, but so far she been passed over as the Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year, which has gone to only six women in 39 years.
But this could be the year for Carrie, who has achieved enormous crossover success, winning four Grammy awards already in her short career. She is the lone woman nominated in 2009, facing off against Brad Paisley, George Strait and ‘ of course ‘ Chesney. (Updates to four Grammys).

Academy of Country Music Awards rehearsals: Reba, Miranda, Carrie
Greetings from Vegas, Mixers, and the Academy of Country Music Awards! I know what you’re saying: Hey, doesn’t that show happen in the fall? No. That is the CMAs. Not to be confused with the CMTs. Or CBS, the network on which these awards air. Also, please do not make the mistake of confusing this with AIG. These are the ACMs, they air Sunday night on the Tiffany Network, and your host for the eleventh year running is one Ms. Reba McEntire. Based on the list of performers I’ve seen — Kenny, Trace, Rascal Flatts, Keith, George, Tim and Faith, Sugarland, and the three ladies I’m here to observe today — it seems you will get more than your recommended daily allowance of big-ticket Nashville action if you choose to tune in. And yes, I will be using first names almost exclusively all weekend.
American Idol Mansion Is “Like a Prison”
I call this the Papa Spears effect. During the previous seasons of American Idol, contestants would sneak out of the Idol mansion and go drinking at L.A. clubs. They would reportedly gotten into “all sorts of trouble” and producers are taking no risks this year. All of the show’s season 8 finalists are under security camera surveillance in the Bel-Air mansion and they are complaining about their heavy restrictions.
An unnamed finalist said he feels like “a bird in a gilded cage.” He also added that the house is “gorgeous” but that they have “no privacy.”
‘Idol’ Fix: Who’s Hotter?
We love the above picture for two reasons: 1. “Idol” alums Ace Young and David Cook look damn good and 2. You can define your relationship type simply by answering the above question.
Ace Young’s “why are you taking a picture of me” look tells us this sexy signer doesn’t even know how good looking he is, while David Cook’s come-hither gesture says, “I know exactly how hot I am.”
Jordin Sparks Still a Spark of Purity
Jordin Sparks has made no secret of her pledge of chastity and stuck up for the Jonas Brothers when Russell Brand made fun of their promise bands at the VMAs last year – and it seems the common value system between Sparks and the band of brothers has evoked such a strong bondage that theyve planned a tour together for later this year.
“Weve been friends for awhile and we had a lot of fun at the VMAs, ” Sparks told Tarts (with a cheeky smile) last week.
Miley Cyrus Reveals Her Favorite ‘American Idol’ Contestant
Asked by Ryan Seacrest during an interview for his morning radio show on Thursday, April 2, to name her favorite “American Idol” contestant, Miley Cyrus replied, “Allison [Iraheta]’s my favorite!” The 16-year-old Disney actress then was quick to add, “I’ve been texting with her.”
In related news, it is reported that Miley Cyrus’ pre-recorded performance for “American Idol” where she sings her track “The Climb” has been confirmed to be televised on April 15. The actress-singer stopped by the set of the hit singing competition this week to tape the performance. “It went great and I had a lot of fun, ” Miley enthused about her taping session.
Megan Joy: ‘I’m Just a Big Dork’
The caw. The dance moves. The voice. Nobody was really surprised that Megan Joy got voted off American Idol last night. But while not many people will actually miss her singing, we’ll all feel the freak void without her.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Megan, let’s discuss the caw. What the…?
MEGAN JOY: I’m just a big dork. I’ve always made animal noises all the time. I cawed at the end of ”Rockin’ Robin.” I thought, ”If I go out, I’m gonna go out with a bang.”
Hunters and …Sportsmen Continue To Freak Out Over Carrie Underwood
You know that bully in seventh grade that took joy in ruining everything just for the sake of it? Yep, that bully is alive and well and calls himself The U.S. Sportsmen Alliance.
Last month we broke the news that the pro-hunting group went apples and bananas when Carrie Underwood decided to donate money to the HSUS ‘ a group they call …a radical organization that seeks to end hunting and other responsible uses of animals in America.
Eighties sounds ‘Rock’ Broadway
No time to grab a pre-theater cocktail? Don’t fret — at Broadway tuner “Rock of Ages, ” you can drink during the show. And then play a round of vidgame “Rock Band” at intermission.
Even before the economy hit the skids, legit producers were testing experience-oriented offers and events to help lure auds away from their TV, movie and iPod screens.
Now ’80s hair-metal tuner “Rock of Ages” has aggressively worked to create a vibe that’s far less formal than the norm at Rialto theaters, aided by low ticket prices, in-seat cocktail service and free lighters for aud members to wave during appropriate power ballads.
DWTS’ Gilles Marini on Steve-O: “We Have a Bromance”
“We have a bromance, ” Marini said on Friday’s The Bonnie Hunt Show. “I believe that Steve-O has an amazing story to tell. It’s very inspiring for all those kids out there who are having trouble with drug additions. He made it happen. He’s a year sober, and he’s doing a fantastic show and a fantastic job turning it around.
