‘American Idol’ Exec Producer ‘Pleased’ With 15-Year-Old Contestants

“I think that the one change that I’m most excited about is opening it up to 15-year-olds. And when I heard about it, I wasn’t too happy about it, because I thought, ‘We’re going to get a bunch of immature kids come in and cry their eyes out when they’re kicked out, ‘ ” he said. “And whereas I was partly right, the majority of the kids were absolutely fabulous, and you’d never guess they were 15. They were mature, sang brilliantly and were just grateful for the opportunity of being allowed in the room.”

And, much like Palmer, there’s still plenty of those 15-year-olds who are making noise on the show.

“[I’m] very pleased with them, ” he said, “and quite a few of them are still there.”

Kara DioGuardi: Luck can only take you so far

I know this puts me in the minority, but I absolutely loved Kara DioGuardi on “American Idol.” The facts are these: she brought as much industry expertise to the table as Randy, as many loony moments as Paula and was as consistently cutting as Simon.

That’s why part of the prize for winning Folgers Jingle Contest includes a one-on-one mentoring session with Kara … and $25, 000! All you have to do is put a unique twist on their classic “The Best Part of Wakin’ Up” jingle and submit the song by March 1.

To help guide to you victory — or soothe the sting of defeat — PopWrap sat down with Kara to find out what goes into the perfect jingle and how to rebound from rejection.
