Headlines: Kelly Clarkson on RCA Clashes, Red Marlow Album Cover

Meet Jamella Perkins, the Mission Viejo Resident Competing on this Season of “The Voice” – The battle rounds premieres this week. What’s your mindset going into this part of the show? Just have fun with it. You never know what the coach wants. Music is my passion so I’m just here to enjoy the ride and hopefully Kelly will pick me. The song that we got assigned is a little different too, so hopefully it will show my artistry. I just want to show people who I am as an artist and that I deserve to be here just as much as anyone else. This season is so talented and everyone is so different. If I had to pick someone, I couldn’t. It really comes down to who stands out. I want to show that I do. – Read more at OrangeCoast

‘American Idol’ notes: Caleb Lee Hutchinson interview, TV ratings, Kelly Clarkson – Georgia’s second “American Idol” contestant to make it to Hollywood appeared last night: country singer Caleb Lee Hutchinson, a 19 year old from Dallas in Paulding County. “It’s been a great day so far,” Caleb said the day after the episode aired, doing a flurry of media interviews. He had a viewing party with his family Sunday night and said as his audition aired, he was sure his family was more excited than even he was. – Read more at AJC.com

Kelly Clarkson on ‘The Voice,’ New Album, Her Dramatic Clashes With Old Label – You’ve talked about being the only woman in a boardroom full of guys early in your career. How did the gender aspects of that play out?
I was shoved magazines of girls naked with guitars, and they were telling me that’s what I’m competing with, and I was like, “I’m not competing with that.” And they always wanted, like, the sexier songs – not even good sexy songs – because that sells. And I’d go, “Did you even watch me on TV? I’m the girl that didn’t wear makeup.” So all that stuff was shoved in my face nonstop, and I would just laugh, honestly, which probably pissed them off. – Read more at Rolling Stone

News & views: Katy Perry is dragging down ‘American Idol’ – Four episodes into the reality competition, it’s clear that the pop star’s vibe is just wrong for the show. The audition episodes of Idol are taped and heavily edited, so Perry might change her style once it goes live next month. But right now, you can feel her suck the energy out of the audition room with a stray comment or action. She’s too wacky, too hammy and yes, too flirty for the competition, which was once about the singers but is now (like NBC’s newer rival, The Voice) overshadowed by the judges. Maybe it’s the whoopee cushions she and Luke Bryan leave on Lionel Richie’s chair, or her frequently sexualized interactions with young male contestants, or a moment that reignited her long-running feud with Taylor Swift, or her lackluster feedback to contestants. – Read more at USAToday

Luke Bryan defends Katy Perry’s “American Idol” kiss: “Our hearts are in the right place” – “It’s unfortunate that stuff like that turns into a story that big,” Luke told the interviewer. “I watched an actual interview where Ben, the kid that was involved, he said he was cool with everything. And I gotta back Katy on that, y’know? She’s in there working hard and making fun TV.” “You know, we’re gonna get it right sometimes and we’re gonna get it wrong sometimes,” Luke continued. “We’re in there critiquing people and I may say something one day that everybody’s not gonna like. That’s just what you sign up for.” But, Luke points out, “At the end of the day, me and Lionel [Richie] and Katy and Ryan [Seacrest]…our hearts are in the right place.” – Read more at KWBE
