With 68.46% of reports in, former Degrassi kid turned rapper Drake is destined to have HUGE numbers. He’s already reported 469K sold and he is predicted to finish off in the 670-695K range. This is his third full-length album and his third to be number one. It will have the second largest opening of the year so far (Justin T was number one). This may also be the best selling week for a Hip-hop album since September 2011. Not bad for a kid from Toronto.
Kings of Leon are debuting in a distant second. This is the group’s 6th studio album and with 120K in predicted sales, would have easily had the number one album many weeks this year. Cher is debuting in third. In his usual spot on this report is Luke Bryan at 4th. Elton John got a plum spot on the Emmys and that helps him get to 5th. Last week’s number one, Jack Johnson, is 6th. Dream Theatre (not a Broadway group, but a progressive metal band) is 7th. Justin Moore is 8th, Krewella (no, not the one with the puppy coat) is 9th and Alan Jackson debuts in 10th.
No singing contestant albums made the top 50, but Adam Lambert from Idol and Josh Krajcik from X-Factor contributed to the Avicii album at 13th and Jordin Sparks from Idol helped to write a track on Ariana’s album at 20th. The Glee Beatles compilation is opening at 26.
