HDD – Album Sales Prediction : Jan 26-Feb 1

With 60.95% of reports in, Taylor Swift’s “1989” is heading for its 10th non-consecutive week at the top of the BB200 chart. Hers will be only the 12th album to have such longevity during the Nielsen era (since 1991). Only 4 other albums from female artists have achieved that milestone – Adele’s “21” was number one for 24 weeks, Whitney Houston’s “Bodyguard” topped the chart for 20 weeks, Alanis Moriessette’s “Jagged Little Pill” was there for 12 weeks and Swift’s “Fearless” held the top of the chart for 11 weeks (can “1989” be her own personal best?), Her sales are expected to be in the 62-67K range (welcome to the low sales for the number one album) with 85-90K once single sales and streams are counted in.

Meghan Trainor should be second on the chart with a 40-45K drop – seeing almost no drop from her second to her third week. That’s a good sign. She’ll fall to third with 60-65K once Tea’s and Seas are counted. Fall Out Boy is predicted to have a big tumble to third this week (33-37K, fifth with 50-55K on the combined chart) with the Grammy Nominees at 4th and Sam Smith at fifth. The top debut of the week will be Ne-Yo with 32-36K in sales and just a little more in combined with 35-40K. Ed Sheeran is predicted to sell 30-34K this week (already at 31,339) and to rise to second on the combined chart with the very strong performance if his latest single. Currently at 8th (and predicted to stay there) is another debut – this one from the Christain music organization Bethel. Kidz Bop and Papa Roach (another debut) rounds out the top 10.

The highest selling album from a reality singing competitor is One Direction’s “Four” – currently at 19th. Carrie Underwood’s Greatest Hits are at 26th while Alex and Sierra are featured on the Now 52 album at 28th. Adam Levine and Blake Shelton represent the judges.
