With 57% of reports in, Frozen is tops again. Not even close. It already has a 100K lead on number 2. It is estimated that it will finish in the 200K+ range fueled by Easter sales. With over 2.1M in sales, it continues to be the best-selling album of 2014. It was released in November of 2013 and sold 1.74M so far this year (beating Beyonce in second by 1.1M). The album really shows no sign of stopping and will tie Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” for the 8th most number of weeks on top of the album chart in the SoundScan Era. Even it’s Karaoke album is doing well debuting at 13th with 12K in sales already (BB predicted around 10K and said even that was rare for a Karaoke album to achieve).
Far, far back is a debuting Hip-Hop album from August Alsina. He can take comfort in beating last week’s number 2 already by almost a factor of 2. He should finish in the 66K range. American Idol Season 6 winner Jordin Spark’s boyfriend, Jason Derulo should come in 3. He’s had a lot of success on the singles front, but never been a huge album seller. His career suffered a set back a few years ago when he broke one of his vertebrae rehearsing some risky dance moves.
Luke Bryan, one of the guys Dexter likes to cover, is in 4th. NeedToBreathe (Alt Rock) is debuting in 5th and Lorde moves up to 6th. 5 Seconds to Summer (not Mars) is 7th (they opened for 1D on their big tour). Ingrid Michaelson (Indie Pop) opens at 8th, Katy Perry (one time Idol judge) is 9th and Eric Church (Country) is 10th).
The only album from a reality singing competition contestant is One Direction’s “Midnight Memories” which has moved up to 37th. Now 49 at 12th also features a couple of X-Factorers. There are some Voice judges in the mix at 24th and 36th.
