I had to double check the date on this week’s HDD chart because so many “older” albums have bubbled back up to the top. Adele returns to her chart topping ways with “21” proving that a critically acclaimed album featuring somebody who can sing can move a lot of units. I expect we will be hearing Adele’s more than a few times when the Grammys are announced later this year. Her “19” album has returned to the charts at 43.
Also floating back to the top is Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never – The Remixes” proving that some fan groups exist to be milked. I thought this album would sell quickly to the fans and then, just as quickly, drop off the charts. But, I should have learned because his “Acoustic” covers are still sitting at 17 after being out for months while his two “EPs” of actual new songs are sitting at 7 and 35 respectively. Hey, make hay while the sun shines, I say.
Idol-free “Now 37” comes in third and I’m not sure what that proves. Either it proves that not everybody has heard of iTunes, there are a lot of people who like a lot of pop songs and a good deal or a good number of people think the albums make a nice “round-out-the-gift” presents.
It is not until we get to number 4 that we see our first debut of the week and that is Rise Against’s “Endgame”. Good for them whoever they are.
Rounding out the top 5 is Jason Aldean and his monster “My Kinda Party” album proving that it never hurts to have a kick-a$$ duet with Kelly Clarkson on your album and that country fans will pony up for a good album.
The only other Idol making this week’s chart is Jordin and her duet on the Big Time Rush album (37). Glee has two albums on the chart: Volume 5 at 11 and Volume 4 clinging to the chart at number 50.
