Entertainment Weekly report from the upfronts: “We feel we have the gold standard in Idol and X Factor, ” says Fox entertainment chairman Peter Rice. “And in Simon Cowell, we have the star of the genre at the pinnacle of his game. There’s excitement and buzz. We had more people [5, 000] show up for auditions for Factor than we ever had for Idol. We’re going to schedule them and play our game.”
FOX reveals it’s primetime schedule for advertisers at the FOX upfront presentation in New York City today.

X Factor will air on Wednesdays (8/7c-9:30/8:30c PM) and Thursdays (8/7c-9/8c PM), keeping American Idol’s day and timeslot warm before it returns in January.
American Idol will kick off midseason with a special premiere event Sunday, Jan. 22 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), immediately following the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.
Glee will continue to air on Tuesdays at 8/7c pm. Fox will debut a couple of new comedies during the show’s spring hiatus.
There should be plenty of celebrity sitings at the upfronts today – Alex Wong, the injured So You Think You Can Dance contestant is back on his feet and will be dancing in a performance with fellow SYTYCD contestants and American Idol today.
The Idols who will be on hand? Stefano Langone, Naima Adedapo and Pia Toscano are all in the big city–probably NOT on vacation. James Durbin will begin his NYC media tour at Live With Regis and Kelly and will likely be involved in the upfront fun somehow. Nigel Lythgoe has checked in via twitter, as has SYTYCD host Cat Deeley
Katharine McPhee is in NYC too, but likely for NBC’s presentation of their fall/midseason line-up that includes the Stephen Spielberg produced, mid-season debut, Smash featuring Katharine in a key role.
Also, be on the lookout for Glee stars, Matt Morrison, Chris Colfer, Cory Monteith and Chord Overstreet who are also in NYC.
Not sure of Simon Cowell’s plans, but I would expect him to be at the upfronts, pimping his baby X Factor.
