Empire Ratings Are Unstoppable, American Idol Falls (UPDATED)

American Idol falls half a point vs last Wednesday’s show. No doubt, NBC preempting a “Mysteries of Laura” re-run with a The Voice clip show, contributed. The ratings for both shows were nearly even. Survivor beat Idol by 2/10ths.

UPDATE: Geez! Empire adjusted UP another 1/10th in the final ratings to a 5.8!!!!

I wouldn’t be surprised if NBC attempts to counter program American Idol with another The Voice re-run next week. NBC will have to accept being pantsed by FOX on March 18, however, when the Empire 2 hour season finale airs. Once again the freshman musical drama rises in the ratings, breaking more records.

On FOX, American Idol earned a 2.1, down 22 percent from last week’s 2.7 adults 18-49 rating. Empire earned a yet another series high with a gargantuan 5.7, up 6 percent from last week’s 5.4 adults 18-49 rating. This marks the eighth straight week that the show’s ratings have risen to a new high. Last night’s episode garnered the highest rating for any regularly scheduled broadcast drama since the October 1, 2009 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. On CBS, Survivor scored a 2.3, down 5 percent from a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating for last week’s premiere. On NBC, The Voice clip show earned a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating.
