Standards crooner Michael Buble is currently on his global tour for his album Higher. But next week (Oct 24), it’s “Michael Buble Week” on Dancing with the Stars. A week devoted to the singer will include the celebrity dancers and their pros performing to his songs. He’ll also sit on the judges panel as a guest alongside Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli.
On Monday, Michael stopped by Good Morning America to talk about what DWTS fans can expect from his special week.
“I’m watching a lot of Simon Cowell…”
When asked how he was preparing for his judges role, Michael quipped, “I’m watching a lot of Simon Cowell and Judge Judy. So I can be harsh yet fair…” He’s joking! “I am in no way able to have any critical judging ability. I’m going to be kind and empathetic….because I should not be telling people [how to dance].”
“Have you seen me dance?” Michael laughed. “Come see the show, you’ll see what I’m talking about. I move, but you think, is that purposeful? Or something wrong with him?”
Dancing skills, or no, Michael has written his big band songs with dance and performance in mind. “I’ve sat and tried to make them really dramatic and cinematic…because I love that community. I love having the imagination to create for them to move to. I’m fascinated by people that can do it.”
Michael looks forward to collaborating with buddy Derek Hough
Michael is good friends with DWTS judge and former pro Derek Hough. He described “Michael Buble Week” as not a “fluke,” adding, “This was Derek and I going ‘you know why isn’t there a week where we get to do this’.”
He can’t wait to collaborate with Derek again. “I think I’m more pumped to get to go and perform and be with all those people, and actually be with Derek. Derek is a genius. Anytime I can get work done with him, I’ll do it.”
Back in March, Michael released his “Higher” music video, which featured the singer ballroom dancing. Derek directed the video, while his fiance Hayley Erbert performed as the lead dancer.
Derek has choreographed this whole amazing thing…I can’t wait!
And in fact, “Higher,” written with Greg Wells and Ryan Tedder, is the song Michael is mosting looking forward to serving as a ballroom dance backdrop. “We knew it was a hit when we wrote it,” said Michael. “Anytime you can get on TV or have a platform to perform a song you love…Derek has choreographed this whole amazing thing. Oh I can’t wait! It’s like doing a music video, except live. ”

Meanwhile, this week’s Dancing with the Stars is a double header! On Monday, October 17 the celebrities and pro dancers perform dancers that illustrate their “most memorable year.” And on Tuesday October 18 it’s Prom Night, featuring a Dance Marathon.
