Derek Hough’s wife Hayley rushed to the hospital after life threatening brain bleed
Dancing with the Stars judge Derek Hough posted a disturbing update on social media today. His wife, Hayley Erbert Hough was rushed to the hospital after Wednesday night’s (Dec 6) tour performance in Washington DC. She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required emergency surgery.
Derek wrote on Instagram, “At the end of last night’s tour performance in Washington D.C., My wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital.” He continued, “She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required and emergency craniotomy. She is in stable condition.”
He ended the message, “I want to thank the first responders and medical personnel who have cared for and continue to care for her. I ask for your prayers and positivity during this time.”
According to John Hopkins medicine, a craniotomy “is the surgical removal of part of the bone from the skull to expose the brain.” According to the Mayo Clinic, hematomas are usually caused by head injuries.
Hayley suffered a head injury after a car accident in December 2022
It’s worth noting that Hayley sustained a nasty head injury in a car accident back on December 12 2022. It’s almost a year ago to the day. “Our accident involved a steep hill, icy roads, a tree, and worst of all, the fear that we would slide off the mountain,” Hayley wrote on an Instagram post. “Given the circumstances, we have so much to be grateful for.”
In a comment to the original Instagram post, Derek indicated Haley hit her head pretty hard. “The scariest part was that Hayley doesn’t remember anything. She was dazed afterwards,” Derek shared. “being cheerful saying we should keep going to dinner as blood ran down her face. That really scared me. She came to 20 minutes later when the firemen arrived.”
Derek recently finished Dancing with the Stars season 32 where he sat on the judged panel. In between, working on the show, he and Haley have been crisscrossing the country on their Symphony of Dance tour. They still have dates scheduled through the end of December.
The couple tied the knot in August
Derek and Haley tied the knot in August in a beautiful ceremony that took place in a Monterey Country California redwood forest.
Days before the marriage ceremony, Derek released a song, “Hold Back Time,” dedicated to Hayley and their life together. “I sat down at the piano, thinking about our relationship and the massive step of committing my life to you,” Derek wrote on Instagram. “The amount of life we have already shared is pretty incredible. This video is a just a tiny snippet of what we’ve already experienced. Life seems to be moving so fast, I want to hold back time as much as I possibly can to savor each and every moment with you. I can’t wait to continue building memories and a beautiful life with you, together.”
