Game of Thrones Episode 2: The Lost Lords Review

David hit the road in February with his band, the Anthemic and had been performing non-stop ever since. Now that he’s done touring, he’ll be buckling down to write songs for his next record, due out sometime next year.

After the jump, check out the band playing one of their new songs, “Make Believe”.   David’s last show, originally set to take place in Norfolk VA tonight, was canceled.

  1. What a fun show last night, even if I am sad that the “tewer” is over. And the back of my head makes a few appearances in that Make Believe video.

  2. So sad to see the end of the fabulous declaration tour. What a fun ride it has been. Am I the only one feeling like she needs a big cookie hug today?

  3. He sings with such emotion Wow I will miss the news of all the shows – but I can’t wait for the next chapter.

  4. seriously: “Aww it all just caught up with him.”

Was hoping someone would capture this moment and am so glad that they did. Great photo.

  5. I’m glad he finally sang without that dang beanie!!! He’s looking good here!

  6. Now that you mention it Diane I haven’t seen him wear a beanie in a long time…

  7. Aww it all just caught up with him.

What a great picture. Jeez, those eyes.

Between that pic and this one http://twitpic.com/ru4xb

I’m a little more throat lumpy today than I was last night. I miss him already. (wonder what song he was singing when that tear rolled down?)

  8. http://twitpic.com/rus5j

Awww, Cookie! *Sniff* – what a great picture.

I miss him already – what a year. Thanks for all the videos and vascot thank you for my very own “Lie” voice mail – it was awesome, and it was also hilarious because my kids thought that David Cook called me and was singing to me (and they went and told their daddy as much). Hee!

  9. I know he is sad, he loved feeding off the fans. Awesome tewer and looking forward to the future and the new album. Keep in touch with us Cookie ! We will miss you. Love U…See you the 7th on Carrie’s show and maybe in Jan. on AI or the surprise you talked about ?

  10. time for David to enjoy some of that hard earned million$. he will probably get antsy after 2 days of ‘vacation’, LOL.

enjoy the Holidays, David! “find a girl, settle down, if you want you can………” umm, no, i dont think that’s wise. LOL!

  11. Breaks my heart that the never-ending tour is finally ending. What a fantastic ride DC has had this year … I’ve loved every minute of it. Can’t wait for the next record.

  12. why was the last show canceled?

A friend of mine called the venue box office – there was a dispute between promoter and venue.

  13. We caught him on his tour stop here in August. He is really good live! The posted videos are great but do not do the experience justice. Unlike most live rock music, his band does not overpower him. His vocal abilities, intonation, and emotional delivery are those of an honestly good singer, not just of a rock star.

  14. seriously – that video of Come Back to Me is great! One of the best of that song live ever. The song that I didn’t love and now I kinda do!! OK I just do. Resistance is futile.

Hee not only to Kyle whipping off his shirt, but the moment when Andy is like–Oh dear, I’m head banging to Come Back to Me (shame)

  15. Hee not only to Kyle whipping off his shirt, but the moment when Andy is like’“Oh dear, I’m head banging to Come Back to Me (shame)

Well, yeah(!) at 3:17 on the video! Woo to the Hoo, Kyle stripping and showing skin…. Who’s that guy singing in front of him?! Get out of the way!!!

  16. *grouphugs*

Waterproof mascara was a necessity last night. God. I still feel drained. Is it bad though I’m trying to convince the husband to make a trip for New Years? Ack its freaking hard to let go! Well thank god he cracked and got Twitter because I have a feeling its going to be a very good thing these next few months for us and him.

I just saw his tweet from this morning. Wow does he have to stay in NY for a whole week? I thought he could have went home sooner. No rest at all for that boy.

  17. I think David is amazing for all the hard work he’s put into touring. As long as he’s been out there, I can’t believe I never made it to a show. My husband works at the casino where he’ll be playing his New Year’s Eve shows, but employees can’t buy tickets until a few days after the general public has had their chance, and the shows sold out in less than a day.

    Catch you next time, David!

  18. Yes, thanks, group huggers, please continue to consolidate and post the highlights/primo moments from the finale show to this thread so I can have one tidy place to come to when I have time to get to them! The DCO tour threads are comprehensive, but sometimes I don’t have time to click/view everything, and don’t want to wade through thread comments to find out which vids/pics are the best ;). You guys rock. DC & The Anthemic rock. Monday’s Carrie special will rock. Yay!

  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvMLz3iVkFc

OK, between that one and the Come Back to Me one… now I’m finally crying. Jeez louise, David Cook, what have you done to me?!

What a year. I hope he feeds us some Tweets to keep us occupied over the next few months. Cookie crumbs, please – but dude, take some time and relax!

  20. And Race for Hope in May? I hope he’s doing that again – I’ll be there no matter what, but bonus if he’s there too :) . My son was really moved by the whole thing (me too), and we’re looking forward to doing it together again.

  21. LOL Kyle

Cookie crumbs, please ‘“ but dude, take some time and relax!

THIS. He needs to be able to stop and catch his breath for a bit even if it’s not but a few days.

Awww I love that Neal/David hug. I’m a gonna call them Navid… or Deal?

  23. And Race for Hope in May? I hope he’s doing that again ‘“ I’ll be there

Me too. Might even run this time, if the weather’s good.

  24. “DECEMBER 1, 2009, 7:47 pm
We regret to inform that David’s December 2nd concert in Norfolk, Virginia has been cancelled. Ticket holders can obtain a full refund at the point of purchase. A make-up concert will be scheduled for a later date as soon as possible. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”

However, David was not the only one on tap for the Norfolk event.**

“Due to travel conflicts, Santapalooza featuring David Cook, Colbie Caillat, The Script, and Green River Ordinance has been cancelled.”

  25. And Race for Hope in May? I hope he’s doing that again ‘“ I’ll be there

I believe I saw a recent interview (can’t recall which one) where he talked about planning on beating his time and doing the race in 25 minutes. So he’s clearly planning on attending.

Anyway, I hope writing goes well this week, and downtime goes even better.

  26. He’s been working his tail off. I really admire that. Sometimes it really is all about the music.

  27. I’ll miss these guys a LOT during this quiet/writing/recording time. So, so happy that we’ll have the Carrie special (twice!) and also the EM:HE appearance. I won’t be able to go to Pechanga (yup, I’m a one-time D-Tour concert goer *shame*) but am hoping for a cellcast and copious videos of that as well.

  28. I don’t know what else I can add – Thanks MJ for devoting a thread to this. It’s a remarkable achievement for a guy from that cheesy show.
I am enjoying the links for this final show, will look forward to Carrie’s special, youtubes from New Years Eve, and whatever David Cook and his band bring us in the future, You ROCK, Cookie!

  29. :’) Happy tears. Omg that picture with the hand on the chin…now that’s the face of a guy who clearly loves making music with his band. We done good, America.

And in a fitting tribute to the end of an awesome era, Dave and the band finally enabled me to emmotionally connect with CBTM. Those boys and their huggy bonding and talented awesomeness. The DeTour was <3.

  30. If that was his last show for the declaration tour, what about the shows on 12/30 and 12/31 at Pechanga Casino in Temecula, CA? This can’t be the new tour. Are these new years specials? I hope they’re not cancelled too.
    Anyone know about them?

  31. Super bummer on the cancellation. Had tickets for Norfolk. Oh well 3 times in one tour will have to be enough. Can’t wait for next record.

They’re just special shows for New Years. They’re not cancelled.

  33. Thanks Sassycatz! I wonder what the material will be and how differernt the New Years shows will be from the tour. Hopefully they will have even more new songs to “try” out…. oooohhh Can’t wait for the new album.

  34. seriously, I just posted the whole Twitter exchange on the headlines thread. Here it is:

thedavidcook @ThisIsRobThomas kill it tonight. Ill be in NYC, listening intently.

ThisIsRobThomas @thedavidcook thanx man! your mom is really nice, btw.

thedavidcook @ThisIsRobThomas if I didn’t know she had met u at your concert, I’d think those were fighting words’ ¦

ThisIsRobThomas @thedavidcook nope. just saying. have fun in ny!!

thedavidcook Likewise, sir, likewise. . @ThisIsRobThomas

RyanStar Oh smack! He said ur mom is nice. Ur gonna that? RT @ThisIsRobThomas: @thedavidcook thanx man! your mom is really nice, btw.

thedavidcook No need to stir, @RyanStar. It’s been resolved. Lol

RyanStar I’m always late to the party.I gotta get the twitter chip in my head RT @thedavidcook: No need to stir, @RyanStar. It’s been resolved. Lol

Okay, A) Confirmation that DC’s mom met/fangirled Rob Thomas = awesome, B) DC interpreting RT’s comment about his mom as potential ‘fighting words’ = hilarious C) Adding to the hilarity, Ryan Star getting in late to the game’“ though the guy is already so addicted to twitter, I don’t think he needs a chip’ ¦

  35. I will miss watching all the videos from this tour. It is a sad day. But David had a great run, 154 dates the most ever for a post Idol star. Now it is on to the next record.

  36. I’m having withdrawal pangs already. LOL. DC, Come Back to Me!!

    No kidding!

  37. 154 dates the most ever for a post Idol star.

Whew, I know he’s been working like a horse, but that number is amazing. Damn, it makes me tired just reading it.

  38. Whew, I know he’s been working like a horse, but that number is amazing. Damn, it makes me tired just reading it.

Seriously. Whenever I go to the comprehensive tour thread on DCO, my fingers get tired scrolling down to get to the last concert link. It’s pretty damn impressive what he and his band have achieved.

  39. It’s pretty damn impressive what he and his band have achieved.

And even more impressive to me that he still showed the same joy and gratitude (and VOICE!) when he performed all the way to the end. Seeing him live is amazing. If you didn’t catch him this time… GO next time. He really is that good. I loved him anyway back from Idol but… seeing him live will seal the deal.

  40. I still can’t believe it has been a year and a half since he won. Man, he works like a dog. I can’t wait for DCTR2, and think it will be finished sooner then anyone expected. I just hope we get more Navid and Daine collaborations. hehe

  41. Whew, I know he’s been working like a horse, but that number is amazing. Damn, it makes me tired just reading it.

I posted this late last night on the headlines thread, but it probably should be here instead. Sorry for the duplicate post mj.

  42. “There will never be another first record and first tour”. I can’t beleive it’s over, really. What an amazing experience it’s been, watching this all happen for Dave and the band. It’s really inspiring to see talent, hard work, and dedication to one’s craft rewarded. Hopefully the guys all get some well deserved R&R and come back ready to take everything they’ve honed on the road and pour it into the next record. I’ve got my $15 sitting on the counter waiting for you to come back to me Dave!

  43. What a wild ride it’s been, eh? I first get hooked on this guy, totally unexpectedly, on a singing show. I was able to see him live on the AI tour once, and meet him before the concert. What a dream come true! Then came the first single, then the new album, then the tour (where I got to meet him again!)…and David has met my every expectation and more. I have such respect and admiration for such a hard-working, humble, appreciative and talented person. This may be the end of the first tour, but we have SO much to look forward to! I’ll be waiting with great anticipation for whatever David does next!

  44. I’ve got my $15 sitting on the counter waiting for you to come back to me Dave!

Thanks for the thread MJ – The Charlotte Farewell. After being fortunate enough to make five concerts this year, I had to smile at that comment. I’ve got that on the table too, and more, waiting for the next album and whatever tour dates I’m able to get to….and the Race For Hope as well.

Meanwhile, a hard drive full of the Declaration Tour 09 plus extras is waiting to be sorted through. That ought to keep me busy enough.

  45. Wistful Cook watching as Fire Tornado (the band that his roadies formed while on the road) tear it up at the end of last night’s concert: http://twitpic.com/rus5j

How could you not love this guy? How many guys give their roadies this much props?

  46. This man really is the whole package. To have that much talent and success, yet the ability to remain genuinely grateful for all that has happened is quite refreshing. I was fortunate enough to see David several times on this tour. What amazes me is how each show was so unique. He really knows how to be in the moment and feed off the crowd. The last show was as fresh as the first show. That is not easy to do, when a tour is as long as this one. Those videos are awesome. And David’s face could not hide the emotion that he was feeling as he finished the set. People in the cell cast were choking up as the thought of this tour coming to an end began to sink in. Thanks for all the good times Cookie!

  47. To have that much talent and success, yet the ability to remain genuinely grateful for all that has happened is quite refreshing.

He really struck me at each and every show as truly grateful that people were coming out to see him… and I love that about him. I saw him in five different venues, all different, and he really does play well to whatever crowd he has. Plus he has a way of making you feel that he’s looking right at you… he spends a lot of time making eye contact with the crowd.

Gah, I miss those guys already. I love them all, the whole fantastic band.

  48. I don’t like Make Believe….he sounds like he is screaming/not singing. I can’t quite pick a melody out in the song and I think I like songs with a good melody.
I know David has quite a following, but I’ve never really understood the whole David Cook appeal. I have a hard time telling him apart from Nickelback and Daughtry. I’m not really a fan of any of the three, but if I had to pick I would probably pick Daughtry as my favorite.

  49. Is it stupid that I don’t want to read this post & comment string because that will just make it all seem real and final? Oh, I know there will be other shows and hopefully other tours, but there won’t ever be another first tour/Declaration tour.

    *sniffle*

It’s going to be tough to break the evening youtube cruising habit. Maybe I’ll start following another awesomefantasticamazing band on tour.

…Nah. Only for you, DC & band. Only for you.

  50. Don’t have to Make Believe, ’cause I really do “give a damn.” Can’t wait to see what comes next We have enough history now to make me feel confident it will be lots of fun.

Love this song, love Every Day Is the Same, want to know what’s cookin’ in that fertile musical brain of his!

  51. http://twitpic.com/rus5j

Aww it all just caught up with him.

Jeez, now that I’m reading, it’s catching up with me, too. What a picture. Thanks, seriously.

it was awesome, and it was also hilarious because my kids thought that David Cookcalled me and was singing to me

*L* tierbee that is definitely awesome. I’m so sorry you didn’t get your show tonight, but that’s not a bad souvenir!

Hee not only to Kyle whipping off his shirt, but the moment when Andy is like’“Oh dear, I’m head banging to Come Back to Me (shame)

LOL, that was hilarious. Helped take the sting out of it a little. Okay, that’s a lie — this is definitely the first time CBTM has generated any emotion in me other than mild annoyance. And you’re right, maturin, the vocal on that was lovely, especially considering how emotional he was before he started singing.

  52. *sniff*
It’s the end of an era. It’s been a great run for David and the Anthemic, DCTR, and all of us who’ve followed them! When I look back at his Idol performances now, it seems like a long, long time ago, when we all started to get to know David Cook. After watching the past year unfold, I feel like he only scratched the surface of his talent on Idol, and we’re all so lucky to get to see him reveal the rest of those “5 cards” he’s holding!

I’ve gotten into the habit of checking the set list and Lisa at DCO’s tour stats every day- it’s going to be weird to stop doing that. And, they all have to keep tweeting!! There’ll be too many DCaTA fans going into withdrawal otherwise!

Still, it was exciting to see David tweet that he’s officially started on the next album, and that he’s off to spend the week writing for DCTR2. The progression continues!

  53. And, they all have to keep tweeting!! There’ll be too many DCaTA fans going into withdrawal otherwise!

Twitter might be Cookie-starved fans’ best friend. A sort of… group hug :)

Of course right now I am listening to my iPod and what came on? Therapy by Axium. Somehow… “It’s therapy for me…….. to wear my heart on my sleeve….” just feels right. Heh. From way back to the start with Axium… to celebrating (and sniffling over, ha) the end of the 1st and most fabulous Declaration Tour. Thank you, David Cook. It was one awesome year. Good music, good friends… yay!

  54. And even more impressive to me that he still showed the same joy and gratitude (and VOICE!) when he performed all the way to the end.

You know, until you mentioned it tierbee, I confess I think about this now and then, but never give it the proper recognition. Shows how much I take for granted that the voice, and the energy, and the camaraderie will just *be* there. But to be in this kind of shape after 150+ shows and 10 freaking months on the road should *never* be taken for granted.

Just this morning I was reading about how close My Chemical Romance came to breaking up after their last tour — how worn out they were and how much they couldn’t stand the sight of each other — and really, that’s not uncommon because while there are awesome rewards to live performances, it’s a tough life.

These guys deserve a huge amount of credit for not just holding it together but for doing it with a lot of style and a lot of class.

I’ll stop post hoing in a minute, but I have to ask: Does anyone know who David is writing with in NYC?

Talk about major withdrawal. It will be for many of us. At least we should get vids from the 2 Peachanga shows on the 30th and 31st plus we will see Carrie’s special on Monday but I’ll still miss seeing these guys on almost a daily basis terribly!

  56. Thanks Ladymadonna for those cool photos. Terry has really upped his blue light skills!

  57. You know what is kind of sad? We will never know what the final setlist was. Yes, Come Back to US soon Cookie! Leaving a Light On for you until you do!

  58. He is still my favorite of all of the American Idols. The funny thing is after season 7 ended and the tour was over for AI, I could not wait to hear him on the radio and the stupid stations in Chicago didn’t play his single from the debut album forever. Now, I can’t drive five miles to school without hearing a David Cook song. I love it, but wow did it take them awhile to wake up to how amazing he is. Can’t wait for the new album. There is something about David Cook, the voice and the personality that just gets to me. I am hooked for life.

  59. And aw, #thankyoudavidcook is at #1 trending on Twitter. ***HUGS*** Cookie fan friends :)

  60. and he will continue to work his ass off….being himself. if it’s meant to be it will happen

  61. Yah, onward and upward as they say. Speaking of incarcerate, incarcerate, I love that song.

  62. Boo on the Grammy’s. But then smart committees is an oxymoron. And if the past is anything to go by, he’ll just be even more determined to get one in the future. Next time Dave.

  63. love to see the guys having fun on the stage – thanks for that vid Pam

  64. sorry will miss u but be waiting for the new music..and you.keep us updated. hope the same guys will be with you on the next tour…love all of them and they are talented as well.

  65. So sad the tour ended. Don’t know what am I going to do without daily Cookie crumbs. tears…

  66. I loved it when Cookie said last night that he wouldn’t have done this tour if he couldn’t have done it with Andy and Neal. And you can see how much he cares about Monty and Kyle too.
I sincerely hope they will all be together on the next record and the next tour.

  67. Dave, Andy, and Captain America (Kyle) hitting pinatas

    Hee!

LOL, that’s fricking hilarious. I love their antics :)

  68. Pam

    More antics’ ¦.again.

Dave writes the word BOO on GRO’s drum kit.

    Hee

    It actually says Poop. Lol

  69. LOL at the look on the Script guy’s face while he’s ducking the flying candy from the pinata. They had no idea what they were in for when they signed onto this tour. Also, the GRO guys are so used to the crazy brotherhood of traveling bands (tm someone awesome) that they’re all like, “Oh, the drumkit now says PooP. Why not?”

I’ve decided that ext year Dave and the band totes need to start their own music festival with all of their old opening acts. And maybe Collective Soul and OLP. And Michael Johns. Bromancipalooza. I’d be there.

  70. I’ve decided that ext year Dave and the band totes need to start their own music festival with all of their old opening acts.

I’d go see anything those boys would put together – I love their taste in music :)

Watching the videos from the Charlotte show is all sad and fun wrapped up in one. Also realizing how fond I am of that darn band… Andy I’ve loved since right after Idol, I found his To Have Heroes stuff, loved it, bought his CD, and shot him a note on MySpace to tell him so (I have a habit of that after managing an indie artist who himself loved to hear back from people, heh, old habit)… anyway, he wrote back a couple times, sweetest guy, so I was a big Andy fan from day 1. Totally have fallen for Neal who I still maintain is adorable (sorry, again, guitar god Neal). Monty is absolutely precious, Kyle is *amazing* on the drums… they just fit, and I hope they can stay together for the next adventure.

    Sigh!

  71. Oh, and I’d go just to see David and then OLP… Raine ain’t so bad to look at either, I like :)

  72. I’m with you tierbee. I love Andys THH and the Luna Despierta EP. Thanks to David I listen to alot of new music! Such as Ryan Star, Crash Kings, and GRO.

I can’t believe it’s over though. Well it’s not like he’s gone forever. He’ll be on my Tv Monday!

  73. And he’s still tweeting – I mean, he even let us know that he’s going to bed, lol.

    thedavidcook

I’m going to bed, folks. Thanks again for the TT. Don’t let the bed bugs bite. seriously… those things bite.

‘Cept his mention of bed bugs? Now I effing itch. Why does that happen?

  74. ‘Cept his mention of bed bugs? Now I effing itch. Why does that happen?

Thanks for almost making me choke on my gum. Haha it’s the power of suggestion.

    Bromancipalooza!

Oooooh. Good idea. I’d pay just to stare at Raine. He is hot. End of story.

  75. I can’t edit my previous post, but I wanted to say, sunchick that maybe you could sell your Bromancipalooza idea to Sarah McLachlan.

She’s supposedly gearing up to run another Lilith Fair series of concerts next year — maybe they could throw the guys an opening day slot or something as a gesture of good will. David’s a fan of hers, after all. ;-)

  76. How did I miss that River Dance video?! Hilarious. These guys know how to have a great time! LMAO!

  77. OMG, the Riverdance!!!! LMFAO. Classic. Yeah, they are part of the brotherhood now.

Also, where do I contact Sarah M? Bromancipalooza would make a nice companion to Lillith Fair, y/y?

  78. I loved it when Cookie said last night that he wouldn’t have done this tour if he couldn’t have done it with Andy and Neal. And you can see how much he cares about Monty and Kyle too.
I sincerely hope they will all be together on the next record and the next tour.

Is there a video for this? If there is a link is this thread I must have missed it.
